Another installment in our wildly successful series of succinct whodunits, Utterly Ingenious Five-Minute Mysteries offers more than 40 new intriguing cases to thrill, entertain, and solve in less time than it takes to brew a cup of tea! Astute readers can test their powers of observation and deductive reasoning, then turn to the end of the book for ingenious solutions to each case.
In my library, this book was shelved in the children's room, but I think it should be YA. I guessed correctly the solution to about half of these 40 mini-mysteries. I enjoyed the challenge, but some of these required knowledge the author assumed readers would have, that I didn't, in order to solve them. The author is Canadian, so many of them are set in Canada, which I enjoyed. Of course, I'm going to read the rest of the books in the series (there are at least 2 more in my library system). Very entertaining, perhaps best read aloud and solved in a group effort.
This was an interesting and refreshing read, a collection of 40 5-minute mysteries, each 3-5 pages long, followed by a question to aid solving "the case." The read took me longer to read than I thought or the time that I usually budget. I read back over each story trying to decern the answer before looking in the back of the book for the concluding paragraph. I tried to resist sneezing a peak, like looking up the answers for a crossword puzzle in the back of the book.
I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads. I enjoyed this book! It kept me guessing, and reguessing. You really had to use your brain to see the clues and understand what tips the ending off. This is great for anyone who lkes to read short stories and figure out things. If you don't have much time to read, you won't lose reading this one. You can read as many or as little as you want!
