I don't know if this is from the original Japanese version, or something put into the Danish translation, but the small Star Wars reference was a bit funny. This volume also introduces a character that I remember liking a lot when I first read the series as a kid, that being Hotaru. So far the like for him seems to hold up. I like how he switches between saying something serious and then immediately something weird and kind of dismissive.

Un super tome. Les combats de Sasuke et Tigre Rouge sont vraiment top et on découvre Luciole, un des meilleurs personnages :)

Woowee what a skin-tingling way to end a volume!! What an entrance!

Samurai Deeper Kyo, Volume 13 is freakin' ah-mazing!

Disappointed with how Shinrei handled the situation with Kyo, the Five Stars of the Mibu clan send Keikoku to get the job done right. At first glance, you might dismiss this strangely dressed character, thinking he couldn't possibly do any damage to Kyo. But, oh, how you would be sorely mistaken.

Meanwhile Benitora and Sasuke continue their battles with the franken-warriors of the Mibu clan. Sasuke is phenomenal. This little tyke shredded with his new Demonblade, Shibien. Love how he harnessed the power of lightning. Badass.

Today’s post is on Samurai Deeper Kyo volume 13 by Akimine Kamijyo. As it is the 13th in the series you need to have read the previous volumes to understand the story. The cover Kyo and Bontenmaru in the front with Hotaru is the background. There is language, some sexuality, and lots of violence in this manga. The story is told in third person god point of view with internal thoughts of main characters to give character and plot development. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- The battle for Yuya’s life begins! As Benitora faces the steel-skinned Kaji-sama, Sasuke tests his new Muramasa blade against the vicious Maki-sama. Meanwhile, Yuya and Bontenmaru encounter the deadly assassin, Keikoku the Firefly… What is the true nature of this mysterious new foe? And how will our heroes survive the Mibu onslaught?!

Review-Kyo is forced to deal with the fact that he did not finish his training with Muramasa as a child and now he has to finish. If he does not Yuya will die. Hehas to push himself almost to death but he does it. Muramasa is a key character for this volume but he gives Kyo what he needs then dies. I like that Kamijyo finished a plotline. Keikoku or Hotaru as he will be called from now on was one of the four emperors and he, just like all the others, wants to fight Kyo again. Hotaru is a hilarious character. He is very blond. He is a good fighter but anything else and his just sort of fails. But that is part of his charm. And we start to see inside the Mubi castle and how life goes on in there. Yuya is dealing with having the water dragon in her heart and so is Kyo. I love him. He is so shy about how he feels that the only way that he can show Yuya that he cares is to 1 kill people who look at her and 2 be an ass. In the real world I would hate him but in this particular fictional setting I find him charming. I will never understand why.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Let the blood fly! We have battle after battle in this volume and I cannot get enough!

Kyo enters the cave to become stronger and only emerges at the end. Benitora fights with the Mibu and nearly earns the respect of his father. We learn some of Sasuke's history and see him fight a Mibu- this kid is badass! And then the second half of this volume is my favorite- Bontenmaru gets a battle of his own with Hotaru. Both of these guys were of the Four Emperors, so they are fairly equally matched. I just love how Bontenmaru fights with gusto and throws himself in it. So barbaric! Their battle is reaching it's climax when Kyo arrives.

This volume focuses on the supporting cast, especially Benitora and Sasuke, who have headed out on individual missions. Lots of great action and young warriors testing their strength and triumphing. Bontenmaru's character is fleshed out (mostly likely so we will be sad when he is killed off in some selfless act to save the day). Highly entertaining.

The story is a bit dull when it starts off with Yuya and Kyoshiro. But as you progress, the plot thickens and newly cast members introduced piece by piece make this manga unique and a bit of a masterpiece. There are two main story lines: 1- Yuya is looking for the man that killed her brother and 2- Kyo is searching for his true body to exact his revenge. Every other plot in between just adds fuel to the story and lets you learn of the diverse background of many characters, friends or foes. The story itself was captivating and it is a shame that many people know of this series.

The art style refined over time, giving the battle scenes flaws execution. The each character had their own torments and demons to deal with but I would have to say that certain individuals needed more evolution or better backstory. The end was well received and left no stone unturned.

I have watched the anime adaptation and I don't recommend it. It doesn't do it justice.

Do I recommend:
