It's a choice to start the volume out with a dude stopping the bleeding after having his arm cut off with his muscles, and having the expectation that that is impressive. It's goofy and funny as hell.
I'm a bit confused as to why Yuya needed to be naked in the her flashback/hallucination other than for fan service.

YES! Samurai Deeper Kyo, Volume 08 proves that my reading mojo isn't dead and the last volume just didn't hit the spot for me. Huzzah! This volume rocked! From the very first page up until the very last, these pages had me completely engrossed and dying from the suspense of all the unraveling mysteries.

There is so much going on in this eighth volume. Between the exciting new characters and all of the thrilling revelations, this was a real page-turner. I love how Japan's rich history and its most influential historical figures are weaved into the storyline. Brilliant!

The amazing climatic action would lead one to believe that the end of the series is only a few volumes away, but there are thirty more to go. Thirty!! If the story is already this adrenaline-inducing, I'm not sure my heart will survive thirty more volumes. This volume is why this manga is one of my all-time favorite series.

Today’s post is on Samurai Deeper Kyo Volume 8 by Akimine Kamijyo. It is published by Tokyopop. As it the eighth in the series you need to have the series in order to get what is going on. The cover Kyo in the forefront looking cool with Yuya faded in the background with her eyes closed and tears on her face. There is language, some partial nudity, and lots of violence. The intended reader is older teens and adults. The story is told in third person god perspective with thought of the characters added in for plot and character development. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Straight to Hell…
As trouble brews in the Sea of Trees, a mysterious ninja from Sasuke’s past plants himself in Kyo’s path, stopping the band dead in their tracks with a ninja shadow technique. But nothing can really hold this dynamite group for longs, and they soon decide to head toward the ominous “Hell’s Gate” where Kyo is about to let it all break loose!

Review- I mostly like the blurbs for this series but this one leave much to be desired. Yes Kyo and those with him are having fights and all that fun but Yuya was kidnapped in the previous volume. What is going with Yuya is much more interesting. She is with Akira and others of the 12 Shogun Gods as they are traveling towards Kyo’s body. I love Akira. He is one of my favorite characters from manga. At this point in the story he is playing both sides but he will pick in the end and become more fun. Yuya is having so much character growth. She remembers more about her brother’s murder and that changes a lot for her. Back with Kyo and company fights abound. Yukimura has joined the company and is more than ready to get busy with a villain. Some added plot themes of Sasuke and Kyo maybe being ‘The Crimson King’ just give more favor.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this mange with my own money.

Well Hot Damn! This sure picked up. When I thought the last volume didn't take us anywhere, this volume more than makes up for that! Huzzah!

We get to see how Yuya's brother died and we see his killers face. Kyoshiro now has so much more to answer for...but some questions still remain. When she wakes up, she finds herself at The Lotus Land with her kidnappers.

Yukimura defeats Haira but our next villain turns out to have quite the history with Sasuke. Kotaro was killed by Sasuke but that is all we know. I'm looking forward to finding out more about this. Can I just throw out- Kotaro has the funniest pants!

Next, our group makes it to the Gates of Hell. The majority of this volume deals with the different obstacles they will encounter and more battles...all leading up to the encounter with The Master! And he sure is a good looking guy! *swoons*

We did lose one of our group- Okuni. We find out he was a spy, which wasn't much of a surprise, but what did surprise me was her reasons. The final glimpse into her life was sad and made her more likable.

So many battles going on and on the horizon! Hwoah- next volume please!

The group is finally all together (minus Yuya of course), and they're well on their way to reaching Lotus Land (aka where Kto's body is hidden in the ice castle). Unfortunately, getting to the gates of hell is only step one; they also have to get past the villagers and the gatekeeprs, and just when you think they're safe, more of the Twelve show up. At least this seems like the final battle with the Twelve, since it's between Kyo and the leader. What is with Japanese authors having whole groups of enemies? Can't there just be one baddie, and then it's done? Far too much effort, in my opinion!

This volume surprised me with its depth. The characters felt better developed, including a vision into Yuya's past, giving her a more human depth to her character. The world-building was interesting, as we moved through the Gates.

The story is a bit dull when it starts off with Yuya and Kyoshiro. But as you progress, the plot thickens and newly cast members introduced piece by piece make this manga unique and a bit of a masterpiece. There are two main story lines: 1- Yuya is looking for the man that killed her brother and 2- Kyo is searching for his true body to exact his revenge. Every other plot in between just adds fuel to the story and lets you learn of the diverse background of many characters, friends or foes. The story itself was captivating and it is a shame that many people know of this series.

The art style refined over time, giving the battle scenes flaws execution. The each character had their own torments and demons to deal with but I would have to say that certain individuals needed more evolution or better backstory. The end was well received and left no stone unturned.

I have watched the anime adaptation and I don't recommend it. It doesn't do it justice.

Do I recommend:
