A blood thirsty, money hungry street gang from Cleveland is hell bent on lockin' down the Marijuana trade. With the Chief of police in their pocket, they seem to be poised for a long run of dominance. Big Mo heads up the vicious crew and anyone in their way seems to disappear. It looks as if nothing can stop them, but looks can be deceiving. One by one, each member of the six man crew run into a life changing situation that not only threatens to rip the crew apart from the inside, but put their lives on the line. Murder, betrayal, lust, and revenge all come to the forefront and culminates with a gut wrenching secret that might just do what no one else can... destroy the Chedda Boyz.
Big Mo is the head of the Chedda Boyz. This group is a major weed selling team in the Cleveland area. They consist of Bennie, Ty, Dre, and the one female of the group CeCe. Each member of the group is harboring their own secrets that can either make the team stronger or break them apart.
This is my first book by the author. Even though there were quite a few characters, he did a good job of connecting all the characters. There were a few things that I seemed to have a problem with. 1. The editing was not really up to par. There were also times when the characters names were mixed up. 2. I felt that some of the characters were not developed as well. I felt like I really didn't know them as well as I should have. This book had quite a few loose ends that I hope are tied up in the next book.
To be a part of the streets, there is a certain code that you have to be willing to live and die by and it is not for everybody but it is absolutely for the Chedda Boyz who are not all male.
Big Mo is the head of the notorious dope crew the Chedda Boyz because they make their cheese, their money by selling drugs and they have come to learn that EVERYONE has a price including the Chief of Police. Big Mo has some very loyal soldiers on his team and the most loyal is his girlfriend, Stacy. Big Mo is keeping a secret from Stacy that is so big that if she finds out he knows that he will lose her forever. Dre and Ty are the muscle of the group, CeCe is Dre's girlfriend and Stacy's sister and the only female in the Chedda Boyz but you better believe she can handle herself better then any man in the group. Bennie is Big Mo's right hand man, and is trusted to watch over the operations when Big Mo is out of town. Chief Murphy is Big Mo's brother and keeps the heat off of Big Mo's operation for a price. Then we have Sugar and Spice who are two women who are in the dope game also who are not really in direct competition with the Chedda Boyz but they are trying to find out who killed their father.
Chedda Boyz has a really good storyline because is deals with six degrees of separation within the dope game and in the city of Cleveland Ohio I guess at some point that is not all together impossible. C.J. Hudson keeps you interested in the story and reading until the very end making you say "I DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING!" Way to keep the story twisting and turning and exciting and I look forward to your future works.
New comer C.J. Hudson is really going to be one to be on lookout for as he gives a fresh new voice to street lit. The Chadda Boyz motto is run with them or gets shut down. With money on their minds they look to corner the market. With the protection of the police they run the show. You will not believe just how up the food chain the protection goes. The crew consists of leader Big Moe, his girlfriend Stacy, her sis CeCE, and Big Moe right hand man Bennie and the enforcer’s cousins Dre and Ty. When secrets are revealed who will be the one to come out on top? When all characters are introduced the plot is kicked up a notch you will be reading with mouth wide open saying oh no he didn't take it there. Let me tell you - yes he did, lol!
My gripes were the editor missed a few things that make the story a little confusing at times. I also felt like Mr. Hudson wanted so badly to stand apart from the rest that some of the plot was totally unbelievable but in a funny kind of way worked well with the story. "Chedda Boyz" has it all - deceit, murder, corruption, AIDS, racism… a lot of topics for a street lit novel. Kudos to the author for dealing with these topics.
I recommend this novel to any street lit fan. Be forewarned you will be saying ‘What the hell’ on more than one occasion. I enjoyed this novel and cursed a few times while reading it. . With the twist and turns in his debut novel I look forward to his next release. Author C.J. Hudson will be one to get his name known.
Cover Inspection: Looks like a gangsta book, but it looks like the woman in the picture takes a big role since she is in front and the men are hanging out in the back.
First Thoughts: So Big Mo is the leader of the Chedda Boyz and they were selling weed and murdering people. Mo has some kind of secret that he is keeping from his girl Stacy. I want to read and see if I can find out what this big secret is.
My Review: I've read a few street lit books so far, and wondered how this would be in comparison. If you have ever read a street lit book, you know someone is going to be killed and there will be drugs and sex. The killings in this book really surprised me. The sex in this book -- it definitely gets the juices flowing. There was one part though that kinda made me sick. You will have to read it and just see what that's all about.
There were quite a few characters in this book and in the beginning it was a little confusing, but the author really did a good job of making the characters come to life for me, and I got to know the characters a lot better throughout the book. Overall this was a great read. It was full of action, of course I mentioned the intense sex, and it had twists and turns everywhere. I recommend this book and give it 4/5 diamonds and I will be buying the next book Mo' Chedda because I want to see what happens next! He definitely hooked me and kept me wanting more at the end!
The novel “Chedda Boyz” by C.J. Hudson is a riveting read! However, having read another novel of his, I must say that I was a bit dissatisfied because the ending did not include a twist.
“Chedda Boyz” involves the deviousness, greed, and power of a group of individuals who strive to become the most fearful gang in the streets of Cleveland. Big Mo, the leader of this gang, leads his crew into a direction that no one expects and they all began to truly see how small the world really is. Will this crew use their mental abilities just as strong as they use their physical abilities to survive the streets of Cleveland?
It’s a very typical story. “Chedda Boyz” contains some grammatical errors and a lot of slang, which was understandable to me but I'm not sure if it would be clearly understood by the reader that may not have street knowledge. I loved the way the author incorporated the scheming cops into this story as I continue to see this happening every day in my neighborhood. I was not too fond of the ending, as I was expecting more. I will continue to read more novels by C.J. Hudson as I feel his novels are fast reads.
Don't let the name fool you! This book may be titled " Chedda Boyz" but it's definitely the women who are running things. A story of lies, deceit, and decisions, it will leave you wanting more and ready for the next installment. I loved the different characters and how the book was told in different POVs.There were so many plot twists and turns, its impossible to not be left on the edge of your seat.A must-read...C.J Hudson's Chedda Boyz.
There's an up and coming gang of drug dealers in Cleveland,Ohio that are making a name for themselves. Big Mo, Stacy, Bennie, Dre, Ty and Cece make up the Chedda Boyz. They each hold secrets that threaten to destroy the crew. I gave it four stars, because there were quite a few grammatical errors, but this debut novel is Fire!!! This is my first novel by the author, but definitely not my last. It should be on a must read list for urban books in my opinion.
