It is so sad that Jeff died! But I think it is so cool that he wrote a note and recorded a cd 💿 for Bryce before he died.I really liked this book 📚 😊

Cute book, sad book. It wasn't really my style, but I never got bored at least. the writing was super quick paced. Bam! This happened then Bam! THIS happened. It was a really sweet story but only a subpar book overall. I don't think I liked the characters very much, they seemed shallow. But I've come to expect that from books like these. It was actually very fun to read though. The story was complete and left you with a happy feeling. Not a bad book at all.

Number of pages: 228

Genre: Children’s fiction/Mystery

Series: Red Rock Mysteries #5 (must be read in order)

Age recommendation: 9-13

Summary: Bryce’s friend Jeff has cancer and together they are going to ride in a 200 mile bike hike to raise money for cancer research. Meanwhile, strange things have been happening in Red Rock – Hailey’s cousin Gunnar has disappeared and so has much of Jeff’s autographed memorabilia collection. Are the two disappearances connected?

My thoughts: I found there was so much about God and Christianity in this book, and I really enjoyed most of it. I thought there were some very helpful points (although I’ve probably heard them before) about God helping us through difficulties, even when He’s allowed them in the first place. God doesn’t give us more than we can handle (with His help). He goes before us to help us; He loves us. Jeff goes through this really hard time – battling cancer – yet it’s obvious that he still trusted God and God’s plan even though it wasn’t easy. The only thing I didn’t really like was Todd – Jeff believes he has a guardian angel who he named Todd. I just found that kind of weird.
It was a sad book but I still really like the message about the Lord helping us.
I think there was some unrealistic things (not including 13-year-old detectives solving mysteries that the police can’t). I’m thinking specifically of the part when they said it took two hours to bike five miles. I think that’s very slow; I could probably walk it about that fast. I’ll give them that it was uphill, Jeff was tired from cancer and treatments plus he also needed to stop and make notes for his column, but still…
The ending with Gunnar was unsatisfying, but I guess sometimes real life doesn’t turn out the way you might want or expect.

My personal rating: 4/5 stars.

Audio Drama Note: I liked the books a lot better than the audio dramas. The books have a lot of details that I enjoyed (particularly the Christian messages about trusting/turning to God) which were cut out of the audio dramas. (The audio dramas are still good; I just like the books better).

This book may be hard for some people to read, but it's a great book. This book is about cancer. Bryce's friend Jeff Alexander has cancer. Bryce and Jeff are going on Jeff's dream, a 200 mile bike race. Jeff's memorabilia is stolen, and also Ashley is trying to find Gunner, her friend Hayley's cousin. With Jeff getting weaker every day will he make it through the race? Will Ashley find Gunner before the mysterious and threatening men do? I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone. Hope you love it as mush as I did.

Bryce and Ashley Timberline’s friend Jeff is dying, and his collection of autographed sports memorabilia has disappeared. Ashley does a little research of her own.

Lots of adventure as Bryce and Jeff go on a two hundred mile bike hike for cancer research. We get a glimpse into Jeff's thoughts with his diary. He's learning about life while dying. It's a tough subject, but one important to tackle. Very good read. Serious subject interjected with humor. What did the daddy Buffalo say to his son? Bi Son. Plus many others.

I am continuing to enjoy this series that I bought for my nephew when he was young (he has since returned the books to me so that I can find new homes for them). This installment was more emotional than the ones preceding it and quite inspirational. Sensitive children might need a parent or sibling to read along with them as a boy with cancer figures prominently in the plot.

My favourite part was when Ashely managed to figure out most of the mystery of what happned to Hayley's cousin. My least favourite part was when Jeff died, but at least he made it to the end of the bike ride.

I'm particularly fond of this series because I would read them aloud with my sister. I think I connected to the books because the siblings in it shared a bond like the one I shared with my sister. Their relationship was so real! We would spend half as much time laughing as we did reading! We would stay up late at night to finish these books. That was when Mom worked night shift, so we didn't have to worry about waking anyone with our laugher. I wish I could live those times over again!!

I do have to admit that this is one of those books I couldn't put down, but I do caution you that this book is filled with emotion... in this book the main characters, Ashley and Brice, have a friend named Jeff who is dying. I will say no more... you will just have to read it for yourself.

One of my favorite books in the series. It was different enough to keep me interested, but not so different that I fell away from the characters. I want to read this whole series again.

It's a really good book. This book in the series, isn't as much a mystery as it emotional. It has a little bit of a sad ending, and almost made me cry... But it's definitely worth reading.
