It Happened in Paris

Rate this book
Meet Evie Dexter, a wonderful new heroine in romantic comedy. When you're looking for love, there's only one place to go.  Evie Dexter is in pursuit of a career as a European tour guide. With her heart set on success and buoyed on by booze, she begins "enhancing" her CV and soon lands a job with Insignia Tours, guiding their Paris breaks. Bursting with professionalism, Evie quickly checks her copy of Vogue Paris to remind herself where France actually is. Task accomplished, she's determined to become a cultured and respected chaperone. And she would be, if only the French wine wasn't so delicious and Rob, her sexy coach driver, so deliciously distracting.

Couldn't finish this, maybe I didn't give it a good enough chance but it failed to engage me.

A perfectly enjoyable read its just that Evie's stupidity with money really annoyed me. I dont think I will be reading the others because these characters just dont ring true to me.

First of all, I must say that I'm a bit apprehensive when it comes to chick flick. I knew I wouldn't like this much based from the title and cover but it was on sale so I decided to give it a chance. Plus, I have quite a thing with the Eiffel Tower.. *laughs*

Back to the book, the main character. Evie, Evie, Evie. Her name reminds me of a Pokemon. Nothing wrong there. Some may find her hilarious but I am annoyed by her from the very first chapter. She's irresponsible, air-headed, silly and childish. Her counterpart, Rob is more dependable in occasions that calls for responsibility and sound judgement but he's just horny all the damn time.

I read the first 100 pages or so and couldn't bring myself to finish the book. It's not bad. It's just a silly story of the misadventure of a tour guide. Might make a good book to kill some time. I like my books with a little more weight. This is just boring and predictable.

I really really really tried to like this book but it took all my effort to finish it that unfortunately liking it was a step too far. This book had sooo much promise. I looked on here for the rating and when I saw one and two stars I thought personal preference and all that and I thought perhaps they were wrong and perhaps I need to just give it a go. Sadly people were not wrong. To me this book is poorly written as the plot seemed a little all over the place kept going off in tangents. Just when I thought ohh this is good I'm getting into it another tangent was gone off on again

The only thing I can possibly remember is the protagonist shagging around. Disappointed.

Thought it’d be a simple light read and it really was however I did not expect it to be this shallow and insufferable. I hated the protagonist, Evie, an alcoholic, whiny, self-centered, horny bitch whos financially irresponsible and has questionable morals. Maybe I’m too conservative for this kind of behavior but she incarnates everything I hope I won’t EVER be.
Rob was a chapter of its own. Also another insufferable character. Evie only liked the fact that he’s good in bed and rich. Their whole relationship is based on sex.
Then he cheated on her and they broke up and got back together because she realized he’s the love of her life. At the end he proposes to her.
For a light book like this I still found it boring and I had to force myself to finish it as I cringed so hard.
However I have to admit that some parts were quite funny and I giggled.

Toto vážne napísala sprievodkyňa?! Väčšiu dehonestáciu vlastného povolania som ešte v živote nezažila!
Keď som si knihu brala do rúk, myslela som, že to bude "Bridget Jones" v úlohe sprievodkyne - proste niečo milé, ľahké, trochu romantické, vtipné, no zároveň možno aj trochu poučné... Namiesto toho som dostala Evie - primitívnu a egocentrickú alkoholičku, ktorá si o sebe myslí, že zožrala všetku múdrosť sveta a ako ju nikto nechápe a všetci jej len závidia a ubližujú!! Znenávidela som ju asi už po tretej vete a odvtedy sa to len zhoršovalo... A keď na scénu prišiel Rob (sexom posadnutý šofér), no hotovo!

I read this book because I am going to Paris next week, I really enjoyed it and it was nice to read about Paris before I go there. Evie is starting a new career as a European travel guide and she lands a job in Paris. The first part of the book is all about her trips to Paris and her ever growing relationship with Rob. Some of the ideas are a bit crazy and you do think to yourself that wouldn't happen, but all in all I found it a pleasure to read and it really did make me laugh. I won't tell you much more about the book because I really think you should enjoy it for yourself. I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel!

Oh my word! The first half of the book is a 'shagathon' and the second half she feels sorry for herself because he cheated on her. But she takes him back and accepts his marriage proposal. Really?

One of the worst books I ever read. The characters are so predictable and transparent, it is a wonder the pages aren't see through.

The story... oh wait, WHAT story?

I will be honest: anything with Paris in the title wil probably end up in my library... but this book is a disgrace to Paris.

I can honestly not recommend this book to anyone.

I was in doubt if The book deserved two or three stars. The story is quite simple and unreal.. but, it is not a bad way to spend time, it is funny, romantic... so, go ahead in case you don't have great expectations - it is a book you probably won't remember later. But it can give you a good time!

Trintona meio louca e sem juízo. Desorganizada demais, exagerada demais. Ri umas poucas e boas. Livro bem escrito, embora não chegue a meu patamar dos inesquecíveis. Não posso negar que foi uma boa leitura.

There is a way about how British Writers write their characters, something I’ve noticed when I read their novels over the years. Either the characters are taciturn and reticent because it is in their nature or the characters are batshit crazy, over the top and just doesn’t feel relatable because they try so hard to make these characters cool.

The writing as in the vocabulary, forming of the sentences is far better than many of the American New York Times bestselling romance authors I’ve read but the characters from American Writers seem more relatable and normal. The sex scenes for American writers are also way steamier. Example, Fifty Shades was a try hard. Had to resort to batshit crazy to make it ‘steamy’ while Writers like Emma Cane, Robyn Carr and Susan Mallery write steamy sex scenes without having to resort to any if not much leather. And the American Writers write scenes that don’t feel forced or fake. Very natural.

I have not sworn off British novelists because I love to learn to write as well as they do. It’s just that I preferred if a British and American writer worked together to write beautifully but with great, honest and relatable characters that American Novelist have written, I would enjoy those books far better. Less is more. And Evie and the rest of the characters are simply ‘extra’, it is annoying.

Well.. it was a really nice book; I just can't wait to read the next part ("It happened in Venice")..
The plot was quite interesting. The story is about a young woman named Evie Dexter who was granted a job as a tourist guide. As she works hard to become a successful European tourist guide, Evie finds herself falling for her handsome coach driver, Robert Harrison. Evie began to love her job and things were absolutely fine until she met with an accident during one of her tours. When she was resting in her home, recovering from her injuires, Evie heard something unpleasant from Rob that put an end to their relationship. Things turned out bad or maybe worse and Evie shut Rob out of her life. Towards the end, I almost thought Evie would not let Rob into her life. But the book had a satisfactory ending..
Recommended.. happy reading👍

This book is a charming, feel-good romance that sweeps you into the magic of Paris. The writing is light and engaging, with just the right balance of humor and heart. It follows the story of a woman who unexpectedly falls for a man while navigating the beauty and chaos of Parisian life.

The chemistry between the characters is sweet and believable, and the setting adds a romantic, almost dreamlike quality to the whole story. It’s not overly deep, but if you’re looking for something heartwarming and fun, this one’s a perfect escape.

This had me laughing a lot! It felt so fast paced, there was always something happening. It's one of those books that makes you feel like you're reading the thoughts of a woman in panic...flitting between one thing and another.

I kind of liked the MFC, she kept me on my toes and made me laugh.

The romance I kind of loved and hated. It was super quick and then a bit OTT and then very toxic. Again, one of those "I can't keep up" moments which made it thrilling in places and then feel a bit like "why are you with him" in others 😆.

Summary:

Evie Dexter is in pursuit of a new career & she finds herself landing a job as a tour guide for Insignia Tours, leading their Paris breaks. She has a big problem with it though - she doesn’t know anything about Paris & can hardly speak a word of French. And she finds the handsome coach driver Rob so distracting….

This was okay. Lulu was my favourite character but I didn't really care too much about anyone else.

I probably won't read any more of the series.

Začiatok strašne rozvláčnený... Celá kniha mi prišla akýmsi pokusom napodobniť životný štýl Bridget Jones... Ale napokon sa z toho vykľul celkom milý bračik...
