Short and practical overview of Islamic culture and beliefs. Gives personal stories and tips of how to share truth with Muslim friends. I loved the emphasis on the Holy Spirit’s role in drawing the lost to himself. Also emphasized the role of prayer for Muslims in the life of the witnessing believer. Gave specific prayer prompts and scriptures to read and pray over Muslims. Definitely has impacted my prayers. We are not attempting to gain “converts,” but rather disciples of Jesus. Highlighted the power of trusting relationships and stories, both personal and Jesus stories. I really enjoyed this read.

Maybe would give it a 4 or 4.5 but not for any real reason ?

Aligned nearly perfectly with Muslims, Christians, and Jesus - both were written by a (different) American man who works with Muslims. This book emphasized cultural differences in things like honor/shame, justice, lateness, and hospitality. It was fun to read some things and think to myself, "yes, that's exactly how it should be done; Westerners are crazy for not doing it like that," and read other things and think, "that is absolutely insane; I would be so annoyed doing it that way". Another helpful perspective on cross-cultural engagement and understanding, with all the frustrations and joys that it brings!

Overall, a great book. Well written. Filled with useful information combined with practical examples. I disagree theologically/missiologically with the author on a few topics (particularly in chapter 6), so I would recommend the book with a few cautions. But, I would still definitely recommend. A great book if you want to learn more about how to interact with Muslims with cultural sensitivity and build gospel-focused relationships with them.

This was such a good book for understanding how Muslims are brought up and why their values are so essential to their faith and commitments. There are things like the shame culture and forgiveness that westerners misunderstand and this small and very readable book answers many questions.
