Book one in the Dracul's Revenge Series When people begin turning up dead, drained of their blood, in New York City, it falls on Detective Bobby Marks to solve the crime. Enlisting the help of Professor Nikolay Radin to help with a strange cask found at a murder scene changes Bobby's life in ways he never imagines. A simple consultation turns into so much more when sparks fly between the two men, and Nik is unknowingly pulled into the dangerous world of a secret society. The Knights of Paiderastia have been around for thousands of years, and refuse to sit by while an ordinary detective and a bookish professor try to take them down. In a battle against true evil, Bobby begins to wonder whether he can solve the crime and still manage to keep his new lover alive.
Carol and TA teamed up and this duo set their sites on writing this book and the results are amazing. They pulled it off in my opinion.
I had been anticipating the release of this one since I'd heard about it for quite some time from Carol herself and was not disappointed. Not what I'd thought or expected yet still the intrigue, mystery and overall mayhem makes this book a non-stop bubble of bursting interest. Your pallet will be pleased to bite into it.
Bobby, the hot muscle bound cop and Nik the hot light little professor come together to solve a brutal crime that result in fireworks between the two men that top the Fourth of July. I was kept intrigued till the end. When they unite it's steamy and hot.
I heard through the grapevine it's possible a series and I can't wait till the next one is released. Two thumbs up for me on this one.
In some ways, the prolog made this story more difficult for me read – like a spoiler I could have done without. I actually started this several times over the last several months but was unable to get past the second chapter. The writing is solid and the overall plot was good, the mystery was okay. There was absolutely no angst in the relationship which is fine for me because I enjoy external problems and threats more. I did had a problem connecting with the main characters and I am not sure why.
Dracul's Blood is quite a unique spin on the vampire story. At least I think it's a vampire story. Let's see, there's lots of blood, there's bite marks on people's necks, and there's lots of dead people. Yep, it's got to be a vampire story. I like it all, with one exception, the character of Nik I found too wishy-washy. He lacked direction mid-book and seemed only to be there to counter Bobby's machismo. I think Bobby would have been better paired with someone more challenging. Having said all that, I did like the book and I give it 4 stars. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Secret society, murder, suspense, betrayal, Vampire wannabe, cops, a cute professor, lots o’ blood, vengeance, addiction, kidnapping
It all started in 1447 A.D.
Radu cel Frumos (Radu Dracul), – Vampire, a nasty piece of work he was.
Half-brother of Vlad Dracul III (Vlad the Impaler, Vlad Tepes, The Count, Count Dracula-ah, ah, ah, ahhhh).
Can you say…dysfunctional family?
“Excellent. Vengeance is at hand.” –Dracul’s Revenge
Can you say…morbid, gory, a man with a plan?
Rumor has it that he was the powerful ruler of The Knights of Paiderastia…
“The Knights of Paiderastia were once wealthy, powerful men who, according to the texts I’ve uncovered, found spiritual fulfillment through their love of boys. Ancient Greeks and Romans found the act of pederasty quite acceptable. It was all very civilized at the time. A wealthy man would gain permission from a boy’s father to bring him into his household. He’d oversee the educational upbringing of the young man. In some cases, the relationship between the boy and the man was strictly spiritual, in others, sexual.” –Dracul’s Revenge
“Red red wine I'm gonna hold on to you Hold on to you cause I know you love true Red red wine I'm gonna love you till I die Love you till I die and that's no lie Red red wine can't get you out my mind Where ever you maybe I'll surely find I'll surely find, make no fuss just stick with us.” -Bob Marley
Morgan Thompson - reclusive billionaire, greedy, paranoid, having serious issues. Knows more than a few peeps up in office. Politics, man. Wine collector. He’s waited years to secure one of the oldest wines ever found at a private auction.
Murder most fowl. He has lost it, folks! More, need more…is that a brass fireplace poker, or are you happy to see me?...Oops, there goes the butler. Shit, now the housekeeper!? What kinda wine did he drink? Oh nooooo, not Albert!
NO! don’t let him out of the house! Wait, noooooooooo! Damn, that jogger never saw that brass poker coming. Last stop, O’Malley’s Pub. Shit, they didn’t play nice. Well, he was not a man with a plan.
And so it begins.
Detective Bobby Marks – ol’ skool charm, drives the perfect muscle car-a 1969 Camaro-sweet, likes to play the horses, calls condoms “rubbers”, watches movies from the thirties and forties.
Detective Kenneth Jablonsky – Bobby’s partner on the force. Married with children.
Love the banter between these two.
Professor Nikolay (Nik) Radin - expert in Eastern European history at NYU, bookworm, wears glasses, rumpled Dockers and running shoes…cuuute. Sentimental, he keeps a magnifying glass in his desk drawer at work that his father had given him for his tenth birthday. And still uses it! A hot piece. His students want a piece of him. ======== Bobby enlists the help of Nik to get some historical background on a five hundred and fifty year-old cask found at the Thompson murder scene. They wind up working together on this gruesome murder case and it takes them deep into high society. The one key that connects them points to the old cask. This priceless piece of evidence contained the original wine inside before sumbody decided to drink it don’t-cha-know. In the mean time, Bobby decides that he wants to wrinkle some sheets with Nik. *cough* Nik does too.
Nik gets the OK to send the cask to his friend, professor Lattimer at the Smithsonian to get more information on it. Some very interesting discoveries come to light. Nik gets mugged-all his research, gone. Bobby starts to worry that maybe he got Nik in over his head in the case. The murders are piling up, the chase is on. Man-o-man do they get caught up in some heavy shit.
Meanwhile…
“Water dripped from Bobby’s chest as he stood in front of his closet, wrapped in a towel, and trying to decide what to wear. He heaved a frustrated breath before grabbing the first shirt and pair of jeans his hands touched. Somewhere between the previous night and the time he stepped from his shower, he started channeling a sixteen-year-old girl. It was the most logical explanation for why he couldn’t find one fucking outfit that he liked.” –Dracul’s Revenge
Got a date, huh?
Further on in the story I knock heads with a WTF? What just happened? Bobby and Nik confess their love to one another. Aww. Bam! Then Nik gets that sappy, weepy sore, “I’ll do anything to save my man” persona. Seriously?
The murder scenes are gruesome. Evidence is being tampered with. Someone is kidnapped, beaten, and shot. You’ll never guess who the murderer was. ‘Cos I thought it was... The story seemed to fizzle out towards the end for me. I was really liking it too. But, but, it did give a teaser in the last few lines of the story. Which leads me to book 2, Anarchy in Blood.

Here are my notes that make it sound like I hated it which I didn't. When the book was good, I was too enthralled to write notes. Horrible of me, I know...
He seriously just called the receptionist "sweetheart." Later he says "good girl" to an underling.
Cliched storyline with a high profile murder and a mayor harassing the chief about getting it solved immediately. Do mayors of major cities really not have anything better to do than call precincts themselves? They have aides or assistants to do that for them.
And again, the powerful woman is tiny. You know, it's okay for a powerful woman to be big, too. I want to see a big fat woman be really powerful.
The little guy giggles. For once it would be cool if the giggling guy were the big guy.
I love that the muscle car's power makes him hard.
Gay people don't hide how they feel about each other in public because it offends people; they hide because it's dangerous most places not to.
Here's a police officer who just takes his gun off and sets it on the dresser so he can have sex. He's in his own home and doesn't even lock it up or unload it or anything. That feels really wrong.
The police procedure is well done. Wait. Okay was well done until the detective brought a civilian into a crime scene.
They keep donning "nitrite" gloves but I can only find references to nitrile gloves online. I assume that's what the author meant, although it's weird that it's not the same word. Kind of like saying lafex gloves over and over. But it's odd that they use those nitrile gloves to handle old books. I was always told to use white cotton gloves. They don't stick to anything and they absorb any moisture or oils rather than repelling it and spreading it around.
Excellent action.
Yet another book set in the U.S. with Intl. English spelling. Why? I just don't get it.
The narrative has been day by day and a very short timeline and yet they're talking about a night time routine like they've been together for a while.
They went from liking each other to head over heels in the course of a few hours.
Robbed! Again! Why do these stories keep robbing me of my hospital scenes?! Someone's possibly mortally ruined and help just arrived and then it's a month later and everything's fine. ARGH!!!!!
The characters, Detective Bobby Marks and Professor Nikolay Radin, were total opposite from each other, but that is what made the dynamic between them work so well.
This was an interesting take on the vampire legend. I like stories that mix in both fact and fiction elements and blend them so that it's hard to tell what is really the fiction part.
I will be checking out the next in the series very soon!
The storyline was interesting and the main couple was sweet. But in-between of reading, the plot became boring. Don't know, but the bloody wine didn't keep my mind in the story. The characters even if they were interesting for example Professor Nikolay Radin, a guy you simply have to like, and Detective Bobby Marks, too. But this hot charismatic pull wasn't really shown. Nonetheless the romantic story was good and I liked it.
This story was tagged as a vampire story, but it was not at all as I expected. Was that a bad thing? No, just I didn't expect the way the story went. Bobby and Nik are complete opposites, but for some reason they worked as a couple and kept my interest. The ending of course sets up for the next one in the series, and while this one was a different type story and I enjoyed it, I don't know if it will hold my interest a second time if the plot continues as the first.
I am not a fan of Vampire stories for the most part. I was planning on giving this one a pass for that reason. I am really glad I did not. Great story with wonderful characters and dialogue. Proved to me once again why Carol Lynne is an auto-buy
Очень понравилась книга, видимо благодаря Т.A. Chase. Немного слабовата сцена в финале с захватом Бобби, слишком уж невероятно его похищение и избиение каким-то стариканом, хоть и под вином))) Но книга очень хорошая.
Really enjoyed this book! These two authors fit together beautifully. The smex was hot and the plot was intriguing. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Could the blood of Dracul really change you? That is the theme of this story. You have the nerdy professor and the hot detective. Their love story is amazing. A great read
I loved this book. It had it all, including great characters, sweet romance and a plot that kept me reading with a sense of urgency. Loved the mystery, and Nik and Bobby were a delight together.
