Once upon a Heroine: 450 Books for Girls to Love

Rate this book
With six daughters between them, the authors (former publishing executives) recognize girls' need to imagine themselves as the heroine of their own lives and the stories they read. Organized by age group, and based on recommendations by teachers, librarians, and reviews, this guidebook also contains favorite book selections by real heroines (e.g. Gloria Steinem and Oprah Winfrey). Readers can suggest additions for the next edition via e-mail. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.

This is a great reference book if you're looking for books with strong girls as central characters.

This book lists Titles for girls, in order by age. I have already found fabulous books that my 4 year old enjoys. And we are just in the "A's."
It allows us to read books that we may not have searched for otherwise. Her favorite is The Adventures of Isabelle. I look forward to finding more great titles for our summer bedtime reading.

I love to read books about books. It drives Brent nuts. This one has some good ideas. One really enjoyable thing about this book is the small excerpts from famous or notable women describing their favorite books from childhood.

Fabulous fabulous! SO many great book recommendations, and lots of books that I'm not currently familiar with. This is the type of book I'd like to own and work through over the course of many years of raising daughters (and sons).

Finally got this book, and some good ideas about what to read Elena. More a reference manual.
