Featuring the popular characters of the classic animated series and blockbuster movie, SCOOBY-DOO VOL. 1: YOU MEDDLING KIDS is a humorous adventure of mystery and mayhem. In this book, Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo travel across the country uncovering the devious plots of deceptive and duplicitous villains. Written for all ages, this volume includes Mystery Inc.'s wacky encounters with terrorizing aliens, robotic apes, chicken demons, ancient gods, wax ogres, and Hollywood monsters.
I read this many times as a kid, and really liked it. However, as an adult I realize most of the mysteries are not the best set up with not many suspects, and most of the clues only coming up at the last moment. These comics are short, so it makes sense there aren't many red herrings or that elaborate of a set up. The art is good and the artstyle changes between some of the short stories while still looking like the Scooby-Doo I love.
As an adult I would give it 2 stars, but having read it many times as a kid, due to my love if it, I know that it is a great kids read. As a child I might've given it 4 or 5 stars, so I thought I'd split the difference, and give it 3. Concluding that this collection if short comics are well drawn, with okay writing, but is a fun amd entertaining read for kids who are fans of Scooby-Doo.
I've been wanting to read the comic book adventures of "those meddling kids" for nearly two decades; thanks to DC Comics' omnibus and the inter-library loan service at the library at which I work, I got the chance today...and I couldn't be happier about it.
The comics themselves were wonderful, especially the artwork.
Great Scooby-Doo comic. It has many mystery stories of Scooby and the gang such as Wax attacks, The old ways,The Roswell Riddle, and more. I read this comic many times and was never tired of it because the mystery's were always exciting.
A solid 4 stars. There were some fun character interactions from the gang - like when they are all surprised when Fred sends Daphne with Shaggy and Scooby or during the alien mystery and they’re suspicious of each other or when the gang break into a rest home to see Daphne. Just little moments that remind you the gang are/should be more than a group that solves mysteries together but friends. The comics were nothing spectacular, some were quite short and even the longer ones felt rushed. Most of the mysteries were pretty obvious in who the culprit was due to how few characters got to be introduced. The mysteries could have been improved if they just had a few more pages to expand on the story and add more suspects/clues. But that’s really not the point of these comics. They’re not meant to be intriguing mysteries that really make you think. Just some quick fun to make you fondly recall Scooby Doo and want to rewatch one of the movies/shows. They’re enjoyable for what they are. If you like Scooby Doo, this is a fun collection with overall good art. And the panels where things look a little off are pretty fun too.
This book honestly was pretty good. It's 4 stars to me because some of the stories aren't as appealing as I would have liked. This book follows that great Scooby-Doo humor and storyline. Good book for anyone who loves Scooby and the gang.
We love all things Scooby-Doo, so whenever we find a Scooby-Doo book we haven't read yet at our local library, we just have to borrow it. This is the first comic book/graphic novel book we've discovered. Our youngest brought this book home from her second grade class to practice her reading. She read the stories quickly and I just had to read them, too.
Overall, it's an entertaining group of stories featuring Scooby and the gang. The illustrations are colorful and just as good as we've come to expect when we read a Scooby-Doo story.
