Sue Grafton was a #1 New York Times bestselling author. She is best known for her “alphabet series” featuring private investigator Kinsey Millhone in the fictional city of Santa Teresa, California. Prior to success with this series, she wrote screenplays for television movies. Her earlier novels include Keziah Dane (1967) and The Lolly-Madonna War (1969), both out of print. In the book Kinsey and Me she gave us stories that revealed Kinsey's origins and Sue's past.

Grafton never wanted her novels to be turned into movies or TV shows. According to her family she would never allow a ghost writer to write in her name. Because of these things, and out of respect for Sue’s wishes, the family announced the alphabet now ends at “Y

Grafton was named a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Private Eye Writers of America, the Ross Macdonald Literary Award, three Shamus Awards, and many other honors and awards.

Grafton had three children from previous marriages and several grandchildren, including a granddaughter named Kinsey. She and her husband lived in Montecito, California, and Louisville, Kentucky.

Great stories

I've enjoyed all of her 'Alphabet Series' of books, so much that I'd like to start again with "A". She'll be missed!

Kinsey Millhone

This is four books about the private detective, Kinsey Millhone. In the first book, Kinsey agrees to help Con Dolan and a Santa Teresa police officer Stacey Oliphant reinvestigate a cold case. In the second book, Kinsey is hired to escort a man's daughter from the California Institute for Women back to her father's house and make sure she checks in with her parole officer and gets settled. In the third book, Kinsey is hired by a young woman whose mother disappeared 34 years ago when she was 7. In the last book, When Kinseys neighbor Gus has a fall she contacts his niece. The niece unwittingly hires a sociopath who tries to take all his money. These four books were very good. In rereading this series from the beginning, I've forgotten a lot of the stories so it was nice to reread these.

Quite Really Stupendous Telling

Four good books by Sue Grafton and I enjoyed every single one of them. I like Kinsey Millhone novels and these four were exemplary. I kept turning the page and turning the page and followed along with each of the mysteries. As always, I highly recommend this series of books.

Finally, the characters are becoming more round and full. I'll finish the review when I finish listening to T.

There were four books in this edition and I read only one. My rental time ran out so will have to redo the other three.

Four different stories. Of course, each is a stand alone work and they are not connected. Each is quite easy to read, and fun. T had an extremely unique ending, and kept me wondering what would happen throughout the story.

Shouldn't have tried to read all four back-to-back. Enjoyed the first three (S is for Silence was my favorite, but must have missed something because I couldn't quite put Tom as the killer). Just couldn't get into the last one - T - will have to come back to that one later.

I've read the whole series up to "T". The plots are basically the same with some new twists that keep it interesting to read. I just got tired of these books and quit with the intention to go back but I haven't yet.

Favorite quote is from 'T is for Trespass'. Starts out "In my experience,. . . . This is a truth." All the words in between are classic Kinsey. Hope you find my favorite quote.
