Trapped beneath the city of Seattle when an irreversible darkness falls, Carly and James discover more than just light at the end of the tunnel. As they flee the impending collapse of society, chaos and danger are around every turn. Finally escaping the confines of the suffocating streets, they find that their temporary sanctuary in a small town has its own set of perils. Will their love survive the threat in the shadows that pursue them?
I wished I liked this one better. It wasn’t horrible, but it missed the mark too many times.
While this is a second book in the series, it could easily be read as a standalone. It begins with the younger sister from the first story, flying into Seattle after leaving the family farm in Idaho. Chaos soon begins and she has to make her way back home on foot. She meets up with a sexy older man, and it's lust at first glance.
This story was hyper-sexual from the get go. There's a life or death emergency and all they can think about is how sexually attracted they are to the other person? It is rare that I will ever complain about a book having too much sex. But this one did. Like with the first book, the sex scenes aren't bad, they just don't feel like they fit into the flow of the overall story. The emotions felt surface level and the story was missing those deep character dives.
This book wins the award of having the most implausible sex scene ever. How can you even think about sex while running a fever and having something impaled in your leg?
The last straw for me was the hero.
I love a book hero that has strong morals, and is willing to stand up and fight for what is right. So I found it really disgusting that one of his friends (and boss) was actively cheating on his wife and that the hero went along with his friends behavior and didn’t say anything. He even brought his own women to the “party pad” while his friend was cheating. There is no ow drama on page, this all happens before the EMP and before the hero met the fmc. I’m not sure why the author felt this was necessary for the story as it does nothing to make the hero look like an upstanding kind of guy.
Another great post-apocalyptic story from this author! I loved the first book, Burst of Fate, and was interested to see what the sequel would be like.
This book picks up at the same time the other book started. Carly has landed in Seattle to scope out her new college and hang out with her friends. The second night, the go to this underground restaurant and that's when James and Carly see each other. I liked that these characters are different from Avery and Morgan. Carly is much more outgoing and sassy while James is a broken hero. I also liked that the author did more to flush out James. We got to see more of his past, which we didn't get as much for Morgan in the first book.
Overall, I really enjoyed this sequel. It starts pretty steamy, almost making me wonder how this story will progress but once drama picks up the plot gets so much better. Looking forward to Maddy's book!
Finally a good post-apocalyptic book! This one wasn't my favorite but that was a personal preference I didn't care for the h personality all that much. It was really good though and I will definitely read more from the other. I loved book one though Avery is amazing and I loved her personality. Definitely check out Claire kent if you want more amazing books in this genre , she's my favorite!
Yesssssss!! Ma you always captivate me with your writing!
This story follows James and Carly. Carly is in Seattle visiting when the Burst hits leaving the world without technology. Carly meets James right before the burst hits and he saves her. She runs from him but they meet the next day. They plan to leave and trek to Idaho to get to Avery.
James is absolutely captivated by Carly and is ready to follow her anywhere. There are bumps and hiccups along the way. They finally make it to Idaho in time to meet her nephew Max.
I definitely can’t wait for what comes next!!

I'm sorry, but the graphic sex scenes are totally inappropriate for something as serious as a CME or EMP destroying lives. Is this a joke?? The story line wasn't bad but the unneeded graphic sex took away any meaning of this story. It was unnecessary for this type of story.
Loved this book just as much as the first one in the series. This book could easily be read as a stand alone, but will flow better if you have read the first book. Would highly recommend!
I loved finding this series, it is so hard to find a good spicy end of the world romance story so I am thrilled to have accidently found this one. I was drawn in and couldn't put this book down, it has plenty of action as well as some hot and spicy times between the main characters Carly and James. I loved getting a view into the change of normal civilization to the chaos of the world falling apart. If anyone knows me you know that getting that "Ground zero/ day 1" POV is my favorite. I loved the connection between Carly and James. These two had to endure some major struggles before they finally made it from Seattle to Idaho. It was an emotional ride. I cannot wait for the final book in the trilogy.
