From Kate and Jim McMullan, the popular creators of I Stink! and I’m Dirty! —now a streaming animated series—comes a hilarious new picture book about one BIG dino who’s just trying to find his herd again. He’s BIG, a whole lotta lizard-thunder comin’ at you! But he’s also…lost. Have you seen his herd? BOOM, BOOM! Uh, oh! Help this sorry sauropod find his pals before he becomes lunch for some hungry predator. Yikes!
Kate McMullan is an American children's book author. She is the author of the Dragon Slayers' Academy series. She is married to author and illustrator James McMullan.
She also has books published under the name: Katy Hall.
Don't oversleep if your a dinosaur...you may find that it is hard to find the rest of your group when other dinosaurs want you to join them for breakfast - as THEIR breakfast! This book would be great to read with a small child who has problems 'starting out' in the morning, points out that you really have to be ready to face the day!
How else would you describe a dinosaur? When he loses his pack, this dino must search for them. He comes across some carnivores, but uses his size to spook them off. A little intuition and he is back on track. Neo asked if we could see some dinosaurs, which would allow us to determine their size. Museum and Calgary Zoo, here we come!
The reader gets to follow a sauropod while he looks for his herd, that left w/o him when he over slept. You get to meet other dinosaurs and find out how he eventually finds everyone.
The rhyming text is fun and there are some semi scary moments. The illustrations are colorful and fun.
My sons picked this book, and they loved it! They are into dinosaurs. It was short so it kept their attention well. There are also LOTS of fun words like BOOM BOOM BOOM (as he chases the predators away) and GA-LUMP, GA-LUMP as he tries to run away. Filled with action and humor, this is a fun story.
Some Notes: -Onomatopoeia -Different colored text to indicate/distinguish character -Text interacts with pictures -Consistent plot and story line -Introduces a couple types of dinosaurs -Great for audience interaction because of the richness in sound
I would use this: - to introduce onomatopoeia -to introduce a unit involving prehistoric creatures
moral: Being big is not bad. Every body has their own type of "superhero strength." You were made the way you are for a reason.
This book is a narrative of a dinosaur's journey to find his herd. Students can learn about writing stories from their point of view. Also students can use this book in social studies as they learn about maps and using a compass. This talks about dinosaurs, so there are MANY ways to use this in any lesson!
I like this book because he's big, and I love big, and I've always wanted to be big myself. Did you know that? Well if you didn't, you read this review and now you know that. What I wanted to say was that he was big and I also wanted to be small, not just big (big! big!), but small (small! small!)
This book is about a dinosaur who gets separated from their herd. The book takes us on an adventure to find the herd and has some problem solution situations. This is good for a young reader.
Knowing how much my students like dinosaur books, I thought I stretch back to see if I needed to buy this one for my collection. I'm thinking not. Really cute, but just not quite enough.
A dinosaur gets separated from his pack. I really didn't care for the slang in this book. I wasn't a huge fan of the art, either. I liked the dinosaurs flying around his head, though.
This is a sort of continuation on the series that includes I Stink! and I'm Dirty!, but it's also a departure in that it is about dinosaurs, another big draw for kids in the target age group. I like the book, though I feel like kids of a certain age might like it more than I did.
Kate and Jim McMullan of the "I'm Dirty!", "I Stink!", and "I'm Mighty!" fame try their luck with another dinosaur book (first one was called "I'm Bad!"). This time a Sauropod wakes up late and is left behind by his herd. It chronicles his adventures and attempts to find his herd. While better than their first dinosaur book, it still doesn't have the charm of their other books.
based on past books (I Stink, I'm Dirty) i had hopes for this one. it was a disappointment to say the least. sometimes when authors try to plug "dinosaur" into their prior successes, it falls flat and this happens with "I'm Big". difficult to keep my audience's attention with rambling text and illustrations that are to indicate movement but come across as a 2-headed dinosaur.
From the creators of "I'm Bad" and "I Stink" comes "I'm Big!" This one rhymes, which is nice, but it's honestly a little hard to follow--some of the rhymes are forced. It does introduce kids to several different kinds of dinosaurs. Overall, this would make a nice book when read along with other dinosaur books, but isn't strong enough alone.
On Tuesdays I read to kids in the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, UT. Yesterday we read 'I'm Big!' and drew a collaborative mural of dinosaurs. The story is simple, but cute and made the 3 year olds giggle a LOT. There were a few younger ones who were actually a bit scared, but seemed okay with the resolution.
My son and I loved their other books so maybe I got a little too excited about this one. I didn't like the style and the story itself wasn't all thatcreative. My son wasn't thrilled and he's got the final word.
