The true experiences that are featured in this book, introduced by best-selling author Louise L. Hay, have been culled from the writings of some of the most renowned writers and teachers in the fields of self-help, transformation, social consciousness, and spirituality. These are stories reflecting metaphysical miracles; momentous milestones; heartwarming, humorous, and sometimes heartbreaking reminiscences; and extraordinarily poignant personal accounts. In addition, there are many narratives that will actually make you sit back in your seat and exclaim, As you read this uniquely fascinating book, you'll laugh, you'll cry . . . and most of all, you'll be reminded that truth is not only stranger than fiction--it's infinitelymore interesting!
Louise Hay was born to a poor mother who married Hay's violent stepfather. When she was about five, she was raped by a neighbor. At fifteen she dropped out of high school without a diploma, became pregnant, and on her sixteenth birthday gave up her newborn baby girl for adoption.
She moved to Chicago, where she worked in menial jobs, before moving in 1950 to New York. At this point she changed her name and began a career as a fashion model. She was successful at this, working for Bill Blass, Oleg Cassini, and Pauline Trigere.
In 1954, she married Andrew Hay, but after fourteen years of marriage Louise was devastated when Andrew left her for another woman.
Hay said that she found the First Church of Religious Science on 48th Street, which taught the transformative power of thought. Hay revealed that here she studied the metaphysical works of authors like Florence Scovel Shinn and the Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes.
In the early 1970's Hay became a Religious Science practitioner. In this role she led people in spoken affirmations meant to cure their illnesses. She also became popular as a workshop leader.
She studied transcendental meditation with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at his university in Fairfield, Iowa.
In 1977 or 1978 she found she had cervical cancer, and she concluded that its cause was her unwillingness to let go of resentment over her childhood abuse and rape. She refused medical treatment, and began a regimen of forgiveness, therapy, reflexology, nutrition, and occasional enemas, and claims she rid herself of the cancer. She declared that there is no doctor left who can confirm this story, but swore that it is true.
In 1976 Hay wrote a small pamphlet, which came to be called "Heal Your Body." This pamphlet was enlarged and extended into her book You Can Heal Your Life, which was published in 1984. As of February 2008, it is still on the New York Times best sellers list.
Around the same time she began leading support groups for people living with H.I.V. or AIDS that she called Hay Rides. These grew from a few people in her living room to hundreds in a large hall in West Hollywood. Her work with AIDS patients drew fame and she was invited to appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and "Donahue" in the same week in March, 1988.
You Can Heal Your Life immediately landed on the New York Times Best Sellers List. More than 35 million copies are now in print around the world in more than 30 languages and has been made into a movie.
Louise Hay established Hay House Publishing. It is the primary publisher of books and audio books by Deepak Chopra and Doreen Virtue, as well as many books by Wayne Dyer.
In addition to running her publishing company, Hay runs a charitable organization called Hay Foundation that was established in 1985.
This book presents a collection of inspiring extracts from various other books published by Hay House. All Hay House books are of top quality and all pertain to spirituality, self-help or personal transformation.
Some of the extracts are from books by well-known writers within the field such as Wayne Dyer, Esther and Jerry Hicks, Stuart Wilde and Gregg Braden. Others were unknown to me but I'm glad to have been introduced to them.
Some offer touching stories about their pets. Among these my personal favourite is John Randolph Price's account of the death of his beloved springer spaniel who subsequently communicates to him through dreams, guiding him to contact her in her coming incarnation, also as a springer spaniel, so she could be reunited with the family.
I tried to get into this book, but just couldn't. Frankly, I do not understand the allure of this author for so many people. This book is just a collection of semi-mystical, new agey, feel good stories from various folks(not a few of whom seem to make a living in the professional feel good world) who have "conquered" their diseases/fears/feel bads. Sorry, but I just could not finish it.
I only gave this 3 stars because a few of the stories were very well written and inspirational. I did enjoy them and gained something from them. But, a couple of the shared stories were a bit too "far out there" for my taste and a couple really needed editorial assistance. Overall, this is an easy-to-read book of true stories that will have you thinking introspectively.
This is a collection of inspiring stories in the author's life which can inspire the reader through their life or day. Remember a story uninspiring today, maybe inspiring tomorrow.
Not what I expected. It’s really a compilation of inspiring stories. I was really inspired by some of the stories and intrigued by others. Worth a read
Most of these excerpts are wonderfully inspiring but a couple are shockingly awful. Truly. So four stars for the collection because in an anthology selection and editing matters.
After reading the book from cover to cover (well I actually got this for the twinflame story), I realized how much I have gained just from the short snippets of stories from Hay House authors. Louise Hay really has a vision, and I can feel it just through the powerful synopses of guest authors in the book.
Some stories touched me deeply, while others let me learn vicariously through the essence of an experience. They're all amazing and magical stories.
“When everything intangible has gone –status, worldly identity, optimism for the future, ambition- people can still be human to each other. When everything tangible has gone –home, land, family, farm animals, clothes, and possessions- people can still be human to each other. Being human is all they have left.”
Testimonios motivadores, cada uno de los que escriben nos comparte las crisis y cambios que los llevaron a evolucionar espiritualmente, de lectura sencilla y estimulante.
