If there were six stars, I would give them to this book. I have been drawn closer to the Lord through this very simple, yet powerful telling of Gladys Aylward’s life. The stories of miraculous intervention in some cases and perseverance to death in others remind us that God is no genie in a bottle, but is never far away. This book could be read by junior high school students as well as adults and will speak compellingly to both. If I had a family, we would read this together.l on family reading night.

This is a great book one young English woman's faith, obedience and love for God's word bring her to china where she teach and preach to many and her faith was shown by her sacrifices and hard work, with passion and strength she received from above.

Fitfully interesting story of an Englishwoman (Gladys Aylward) who felt the call of God to become His missionary in China. The author was a close personal friend, but there are few deep insights. Rather graceless prose in places -- the author's fault...or the translator's?

Very inspiring book about a lady who went to China as a missionary in the 1930's.
