Do You Have a Secret Fantasy?

Celebrity author and recluse Emma Jordan does. She's collaborating on a screenplay of her bestselling erotic thriller with talented, sexy-as-sin Sam Cooper. The last thing in the world Emma wants is any kind of involvement. But working together in her isolated house creates a backdrop of sexual tension that would rival any of the silver screen's scorching lave stories.

Sam wants Emma. He burns for her, desires to break past her barriers to find out what had hurt her so badly.

Emma wants to keep her fantasies just that. Fantasies. But Sam is a hard man to resist....

It's amazing how much these category romance writers can stuff into about 200 pages. Debra Carroll managed to fit in excellent character development, steamy chemistry, switching perspectives, themes of grief, all while giving a throwback to the gothic romances of the 1970s-1980s. Sam was especially likeable as a hero. He was loving, intimidating, funny, intuitive, and immensely patient. I'm hesitant to call him a Beta or whatever because of the "Belial" scene *wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean? know what I mean?* but he was a good balance of masculinity and sensitivity. Most authors have trouble finding that balance so I was really impressed by his realistic depiction. My only complaint is that Emma could be kind of a freak sometimes but even that makes a bit more sense towards the end. Well done! I hope to find more of this author in the dusty shelves of the old-school romance section.
