Oswald Chambers was born to devout parents in Aberdeen, Scotland. At age 16, Oswald Chambers was baptized and became a member of Rye Lane Baptist Chapel. Even as a teenager, Chambers was noted for his deep spirituality, and he participated in the evangelization of poor occupants of local lodging houses. Oswald married Gertrude in May 1910, and on May 24, 1913, Gertrude gave birth to their only child, Kathleen. In 1915, a year after the outbreak of World War I, Chambers was accepted as a YMCA chaplain. He was assigned to Zeitoun, Cairo, Egypt, where he ministered to Australian and New Zealand troops, who later participated in the Battle of Gallipoli. Soon his wooden-framed "hut" was packed with hundreds of soldiers listening attentively to his messages. Confronted by a soldier who said, "I can't stand religious people," Chambers replied, "Neither can I." Chambers was stricken with appendicitis on October 17, 1917 but resisted going to a hospital on the grounds that the beds would be needed by men wounded in the long-expected Third Battle of Gaza. On October 29th, a surgeon performed an emergency appendectomy, but Chambers died November 15, 1917 from a hemorrhage of the lungs. He was buried in Cairo with full military honors. Gertrude, for the remainder of her life published books and articles for him edited from the notes she had taken in shorthand from his sermons. Most successful of the thirty books was, "My Utmost for His Highest", which has never been out of print and has been translated into 39 languages.

This book made me feel as if I was seated at the foot of a great teacher. The writings were a compilation as many Lessons. Chambers said that much evangelism is for making converts and not discples which tkes time. "Repentanc means that I am remade on a plane that justifies God in forgiving me." Chamber speaks of "the abiding attitude of the saint". "Faith must be centered in the life and death of the historic Jesus.""Belief in God is a moarl creation produces by the interaction of God's Spirit." "The whole meaning of life is that man discovers God for himself" "experience is the evidence of my faith." Chamber spoke of "habital hollines." Sow emotions and the human heart will not get beyond you. Our duty is to get people through to God" This book is deep. If you want to think deeply about God this book is for you.

most people know oswald chambers from the collections of devotions call 'my utmost for his highest', composed by his wife. it is a good collection, but this book challenged me. i love this guys writing and i am more inpired by him than any other author. this is an older book and i love the more intellectual theological approach in his delivery. this by far outshines his devotionals. i would recommend it to anyone who wants to take a serious and more realistic appoach to christianity.

Meat for believers interested in growing in strength and wisdom. Chambers doesn't hold back on his message that we are here to reflect God's glory FOR God's glory--our own glory, desires, wants, etc. don't factor in to the formula if we're really serious about dying to self and living for Christ.

This book was very, very hard for me to follow and understand, but when I could understand it was very good and right on with God's Word.
