Discover Your Roots Whether you drive a truck, wait tables, work in an office, or ferry the kids to and from soccer practice, Chuck Swindoll understands that your world is practical, earthy, tough, and relentless. Growing Deep in the Christian Life takes theology out of the ivory tower and enables you to apply it to where you live every day. Growing Deep in the Christian Life offers an easy-going and practical approach that reviews ten key doctrines and shows their power to strengthen and encourage you in faith. A primer on major Christian doctrine, easy to read and apply, very thought provoking and has moved me into a closer relationship with Jesus. I've reevaluated many of my priorities and day-to-day choices as well as my relationships with others. I thought this was an excellent book and recommend it to people who are thinking about becoming Christians, people who are new Christians, and people who have been saved for some time but need a refresher.

If you are interested in a better understanding of the basics of Christianity, then this is the book for you. Chuck Swindoll clearly explains his understanding of doctrinal truths and the purpose of the faith. He uses stories, personal tropes, and evidence that breaks down both simple and complex doctrines of Biblical Christianity. The truth of these ideas are spelled out in an understandable way that encourages personal discovery and application. The concepts discussed are in depth without the normal jargon of typical truth discoveries; it is produced in a way that helps those who have a limited understanding to improve their knowledge. It also helps those who have a better understanding to inform others of the truth as proclaimed in Scripture.

The book is divided into sections that simplify the research process if the reader is only interested in a certain subject. The subjective division helps to identify specific doctrines in a quick and easy manner. The chapters are also titled and subtitled into sections that help make this a practical guide to discovering the knowledge the reader desires. The information is laid out in a specific and necessary manner that enables the searcher to identify it with haste. It is made for both the expert and the new Christian (or even those just simply searching for the truth).

It is not a quick read, unless you can process a plethora of different ideas and evidence for the truth of Scripture with ease. Take time reading each section and apply the new understanding that is developed. The book is not solely useful for the information about doctrines, but it helps with the application and strengthening of understanding Christian truth. The viewpoints of Christianity can easily be understood with a careful reading of each chapter and section. It provides was of discerning the truth and helps the reader to develop a personal perspective without being overbearing. Read the book and develop an enhanced knowledge of doctrinal faith; follow his suggestions and the development will go beyond understanding and become application!

It's amazing how God moments happen. I stumbled upon this book as I was going through some of my deceased mother's belongings. The book had been in the shed for many years and it was showing signs of being weathered but I brought into the house and placed it on the bookshelf anyway instead of throwing it away. Man, am I glad I didn't toss this book away! What an awesome book for any Christian to read; old or new to the faith! I learned so much from this book and feel like my walk with God is even better and stronger now. I honestly believe that God and I are on a faith journey right now and while reading this book, I had many God moments where I could hear God talking to me. I've always admired Chuck Swindoll, I admire him even more so now. If you have never read this book, I highly recommend it. And to Mom...as usual, you still know how to look after me. I honestly think I found this book at the right time God and Mom thought I needed it. Never thought I would say this about a book, but thanks be to God! :o)

Good look at what doctrine is, but no exploration about where the doctrine came from. The premise was, "it is therefore we follow."

Certainly, a book every seminarian needs in their library, but purely a doctrinal reference book. Academic

This is a great book to start learning about theology and doctrines of the Christian faith. The writing is easy to understand and can easily be incorporated into your personal devotions. Be sure to read the glossary to get a basic understanding of Christian terms. The glossary also has Scripture references, so it would work great as a Bible study for discipleship!

This book is absolutely incredible and thought provoking. It is imaginative, practical, theologically rich, and understandable as it seeks to explain the truths of the Bible. Also, the font is very good and made my reading very smooth.
