The monsters and beasts of this novel are only the third most frightening thing about it, the second being a world with no social safety net whatsoever, where two orphaned children have to run their own farm and fend off hostile adults trying to steal it out from under them, where teenagers can go missing and people just shrug. Even that is not as horrifying as the editing on this novel, which is downright incoherent at times. I’m embarrassed that I even forced myself to finish it. This book’s prose wouldn’t pass muster as a Reddit comment, let alone a novel.
No Spoilers * 18+ Book 1 My Monster Love Story series with TBC ending Monster Romance, Enemies to Lover, Fantasy, F/M, Magic
Janyce leaves the safety of Sunfrost, the Village where she and her sister Kaylie have lived all their lives to enter the dark forbidding Wicked Grove. This is last place for Janyce to search for the missing Kaylie and soon enough she encounters Trax, our Tales main Monster.
Needed a shorter read that did not require a lot of attention as I was to be picking up and putting down, in between various appointments. This fulfilled that need, was easy to follow with a basic story arc and a small number of players so you did not lose touch with where you were.
May read the next book to find out more about Trax as he was quite interesting and I believe it has been published.
I’m thinking this must be a prelude to the real story and we needed their history before we get to the actual meat. I say that because it started off really interesting and kind of scary but the ending was so tame. Nothing was really resolved, we don’t know if the younger sister gets her healing or HEA with Jacob, we can see that J is falling for the monster Trax but it left more questions than answers. Also there were a lot of editing errors that threw me off so I had to read a sentence a couple of times to understand what was being described or said. I may not purchase book two, I’ll have to think about it.
This book is one of the worst Beauty and the Beast's retellings. Characters are linear and so underdeveloped it was a pain to follow through with them. There is a base line plot but no filling in between whatsoever. Everything is rushed and the reader is forced to follow through with it. It felt like the author published their first draft without even reviewing it, for some chapters do not make any sense. I do not recommend this "book" to anyone, even if you get it for free. Would definitely DNF this if it wasn't so short.
Was easy to follow but did have some typos. I can easily ignore those though. This was a pretty short story, so I understand there not being a ton of substance, but I think this could have benefitted from a little more. Everything felt rushed once Trax came into the picture or maybe I'm just not understanding the timeline. Wasn't a bad story, I just think it could use a little more something middle to end.
The premise sounded amazing but the book just didn't deliver. There was no consistency with the dialect used - it constantly switched between proper English and really casual which caused the flow to be really awkward. It was so short that everything seemed super rushed. It was 2 pages between the main character being terrified of the monster and wanting it.
In my eyes it was just really dry with not a lot of entertainment to it.
It took a bit to get to the main stuff. Overall, it was like reading fanfiction. Some was difficult to understand at times. There are some typos. I did end up reading everything within 24 hours though, thats how fast you can read the whole series of this story. 1st book is basically what the title says, and the others follow the same path. Overall, it's just okay.
This left me feeling empty - where was the falling???
*spoilers below bc I can’t even* . . . . . He kidnapped you and your sister, nearly killed your sister, made you take your dying sister away, makes you come back alone, he saves you from a beast and that’s it - you fancy him? Hell nah girl. This book gave me NOTHING and I’m so mad about. There was so much potential 😩
I really liked the story but the editing could be a lot better. I had to think too much about some of the words and what they should have been. But hopefully the next book will be better.
Made it to 59%, unsure if I am going to finish book. I just wasn't feeling the writing style or characters. Lots of typos which kept bringing me out of the story.
Painfully bad. It was a free book from a kindle event so yeah, glad it was free because I only made it 7% in before I was annoyed with both sisters and the writing style.
interested in reading more about this world. good introduction. I think there's quite a bit of mystery to unveil. Reminded me a bit of The forest of hands and teeth
I hate to give bad reviews, bit there were so many typos, missed words and other issues that I doubt this was even edited once. These issues really detracted from the story - which in itself was okay but didn't seem to go anywhere
