Power Struggle is book four of the Carnal Expectations series. This one is a short Valentine’s novella and I need more of this series. I can’t wait to devour book five when it comes out. I’m so excited to know Stephen and Dom are in the next book.
FMC Addison/Addy is an attorney and worked with Rayvn. She has a lot of body issues due to her mother. She starves herself and suffers from anorexia/bulimia. She is a female domme but quickly finds herself becoming a switch for Jackson. She has such a strong personality and is a true badass.
MMC Jackson/Jack is an attorney as well, he worked at the same place as Rayvn and Addy. He is apart of Rayvn and Shiloh’s book club(love😍). Jackson is bi-sexual, pleasure dom and a voyeur. He has been in love with Addy for years and wants to help her with her issues. He often talks about making her healthier.
Jackson falls to his knees to show Addy he will be a sub for her, if she’ll give him a chance. Addy is scared of a relationship because everyone she loves leaves her and she thinks Jack will too. Jackson’s show of love, affection, aftercare and spankings when needed show Addison what she is missing out on and that she is safe in his arms.
This was so hot, spicy, steamy and entertaining. Jack and Addy have known each other for six years and been fighting the chemistry that burns between them but they match up at a kinky Valentine’s Day sex party.

Oh my scorching panties! This is hands down the best book of 2023. Another home run for Bex with Power Struggle.
This is the fourth in the Carnal Expectations series which can totally read as a standalone. The Carnal Expectations series of books has interconnected characters but doesn't need to be read in order to enjoy them all or understand what's happening; although I must say each and every one of Bex's books is amazing. Dive right in and enjoy this goodness.
Power Struggle gives us the story of Addison and Jackson, former colleagues who find themselves at a $ex party on Valentines Day exploring all the kink community has to offer. Little does Addy know, Jackson has manipulated the terms of party and make sure he matches with Addison at the end of the night where he has a special suprise for her. Jackson is every swoony romance book boyfriend that we need just in time for Valentines Day. Addy is carrying some serious emotional and physical baggage that is briefly touched on in the book. She is the heroine we're all rooting for to be swept up by an amazing man like Jackson after all she's been through. Jackson and Addy have a hot and steamy night and I can't wait to read Bex's next work "Dominate Me" to hopefully see more of them.
If you haven't read any of Bex's other works then definitely check out the Carnal Expectations series and fall in love with Jackson and Addison. Then go back and start at number one and get to know Logan Huxley #daddy
Do yourself a favour and read the heavy trigger warnings that Bex puts out at the beginning of the book. DO NOT go in blind and be upset by what you consider offensive. It's laid out right at the beginning and is definitely not for the faint of heart. This is dark, raw, dirty, hot and steamy smutty reading. This is an arc review but all opinions are my own.
After getting teases about this couple in a previous book I was super excited to read about them. I loved the entire Valentine’s Day/club plot.
As always bex does not disappoint with the smut. Those last few scenes were some of my favourite from her of all time.
Both of the MC’s are switches and we get to see both of them in a somewhat dominant role which is really refreshing however I would have preferred them to have more clear separate scenes so they could both have their time to shine better. Rather then constantly switching mid scene.

We’ve met Addison and Jackson before. Of course, this is a VERY different version of them than we’re familiar with. This was six years in the making! Thank goodness for meddling assistants! (I know I obsessed over Dom…but Phillip?!) My heart broke from the very first page. Just let me hug Addison! Please! When they had their chance, she did the only thing she knew how to do: run. But that didn’t matter to Jackson. Jackson put Addison above all else, even his own heart. Especially his own heart. He knew she needed space. He understood she was vulnerable. The time finally came for him to prove exactly how hard he was willing to fight. Jackson is a man obsessed, and was going to stop at nothing until Addison gave in. Not just to him, but to herself. To give herself the chance she deserved. Jackson was never afraid to say what he wanted, to plead for what he wanted. No hesitation whatsoever to lay it all out on the table. There’s nothing easy or simple about what’s going on. But between them? It’s comfortable. And that’s enough. There’s a whole lot of heart and soul in this dirty novella. I can NOT wait to see what’s to come, pun intended!

Jack and Addy are definitely up there for my favourite couple of this series, but based off that little note left by the author at the ending I’m definitely intrigued to see this couples journey develop even further👀

This was fun. I read this from the authors own preview on TikTok and I was just expecting more domme shit idk. Tbh this is my issue in almost all switch books anyways cuz it’s always made out like yeah she’s a domme but she’s always been waiting for this man to top her like ok idk I just don’t find that hot.

What's new~ Bex knocked it out of the park with this one. Power Struggle comes with a fantastic shopping list of fun times. Jack and Addy are easy to fall in love with. Reading through Addy's struggle with self image and the support she gets from Jack is pure love. I blew through this book and was sad that it had to end but it was a great read. The spicy was next level 🥵🥵🥵!! Another great job from my girl Bex Dawn!!

Honestly not sure on my exact star rating. 2.5?
I had initially rated this higher, but the more I think on it the more I need to lower my rating.
I will preface this by saying I’ve read everything Bex Dawn has written to date, I love her characters and stories. The reason I rated this higher initially is because I love her characters and stories.
That being said, I feel this deserves a lower rating because of its portrayal of the sex club. I’ve never personally been to a sex club, but with my knowledge of D/S dynamics and relationships, as well as relationships in the kink space in general, I find it hard to believe that a sex club would allow copious amounts of alcohol and shots. At one point, the MMC had to turn down a woman and have her escorted out because she was hammered. The MMC also took multiple shots of various liquors. Consent from all parties every step of the way is such an important aspect of the kink space. If this club allows participants to get hammered, I don’t see how proper consent can be given.

everyone needs a jackson
With the loving help of their meddling assistants, Addy + Jack match at a Valentine’s Day event meant to connect people based on their kinks. Although they worked together for several years neither one of them entertained being more than colleagues despite their obvious chemistry.
After knowing each other for so long it's no surprise that they can predict what their partner needs from them (emotionally + physically) in the moment and execute transitions in power seamlessly. I can say this is my FAVORITE book so far in this series! ❤️
Jack and Addy’s relationship was been build up since “Primal Urges”, and there we couldn’t understand so well Addy’s behavior in general.
Now in few pages we read Addy’s deep traumas, her struggle with her image, her shit relations with her mother, and all that came with it. I’m personally touched by this theme so it was tough to read.
Jackson was so sensitive with everything, so sweet with her and we could feel their moments were very special.
Don’t get me wrong, this book is full of spicy scenes and kink things (and I loved every second of it 🥵🗣️) but the romantic moments were so meaningful to me ❤️

This was the perfect smutty novella just in time for Valentine's Day. Bex brought out all the stops and definitely did create a new book boyfriend. Like I'm talking about swoon worthy, will do anything for you and even understands the importance of aftercare book boyfriend.
Power Struggle is the 4th book in the Carnal Expectation series, but it can be read as a standalone. The series has interconnecting characters, and this is Addison & Jackson's story.
Addy unfortunately is fighting her inner demons and comes down on herself to much, but Jackson sees her for who she truly is. So, when they "mysteriously" are at the same $ex party Jackson does EVERYTHING, he possibly can to prove his love and worth for her. He even went the extra mile to manipulate the results to make sure he gets paired with her and even got the best room in the hotel just for them. But of course, Addy won't make it easy on him. They are both DOMs, so they are constantly fighting the battle of being in charge but OH MAN when one drops that shield and becomes a SUB does things get spicy. Jack is no rookie when it comes to this, and he definitely doesn't hold back. He's got one night to prove his worth and my oh my does he.

Where to even begin?! Bex never misses the mark with her books. With Power Struggle you have one of the funniest and cutest dedications, a shopping list a mile long, an underlying lesson beneath all the smvt, and come on, a glory hole with snowballing scene!!! That should seal the deal right there that you need to read this! The bits of an ED you get break your heart for Addy. She’s been through so much with it and thinks so little of herself. She’s learning to trust & be loved, while he’s trying to prove his love, his want to take care of her, and show her he loves every part of her. Jack & Addy are amazing together, Dominating and submitting to please each other. Nothing beats the mentions of them reading Ice Planet Barbarians, and Violet Craves. I laughed and loved it! This book is dirty & sweet at the same time. All the filth and some incredibly sweet aftercare and reassurance from my man Jack, who’s after my own heart! Perfect quick novella full of everything your heart and kitty desires. Bring new panties, just sayin’. Can’t wait for this to become more!

Jack's willingness to surrender to the woman he loves was amazing and he me having all the butterflies. You don't really have to read the other books in the series to pick up in what's going on. But it helps to build and understand their relationship a bit more.

Bex knows how to write a spicy romance like no other! This carnal expectations series has become a quick favourite of mine with me devouring each book like it’s my last meal. This valentines special was just as filthy as all the other books in this series and if you are like me and you gobble up all the kinks in this book then you need to read this asap. I loved the tension between the MCs and that we get to finally see this relationship after getting peeks of these characters through out the other books. Can’t wait to read more by this author!

If the hotel in this book was real- I’m pretty sure that it would be booked every weekend! This book was so hot and spicy. It had all the makings of an incredible bdsm book with the fun of a plot that will be going into an incredible next book. It had all the makings of an incredible bdsm book with the fun of a plot that will be going into an incredible next book. Addy and Jackson are the cutest and most intricate characters I have read about. I absolutely loved learning about them- I also love how this authors books are all intertwined. I am downloading the next carnal expectations NOW!!!

A spicy read
We got a hint of these characters in Book 2 so it was good getting to read more. I believe they’re also in book 4 so for me this felt like a filler book in a good way! I haven’t read book 4 yet, it’s next so I’m hoping this book was like the ‘how we met’ it was good getting an insight into the FMC Addisons personality and her relationship with the MMC Jackson and why she was scared to be ‘seen’
This book is hot and spicy and I’m looking forward to seeing the next chapter of these characters and some previous series standouts

Oh my gaaaaaaawd! Bex Dawn has done it again with another fantastic addition to the Carnal Expectations series. It's not long but it has everything that I needed. I actually love love LOVED Jackson and how he and Addy connected by the end. It was just.. *chef's kiss*.
I'm dying with the teaser at the end and need the next book YESTERDAY. I've been waiting for Stephen and Dom and now I know they're on the horizon, it can't get here fast enough. ❤

Oh this novella was hot! It was such a yummy little morsel of passion and plot. Bex really has a great handle on shoving all the components of a 400 page novel into a novella without cutting any critical areas. I became a fan at Violet Craves and have read every single book since and before…and I’ll continue to read every single things she writes. If you haven’t read her books yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??!!

It took kinks to next level and explored the relationship between Addy and Jackson who are both dominatrix but are will to submit to each other.
This book it hot and spicy and definitely more exotic than the others. It definitely should not be read by anyone under 18.
If you like BDSM and power links you would enjoy this. I gave it 4 stars but it wasn’t really my fancy and I wouldn’t really read this again.
