Curated by the Justseeds Artists' Collective, art, world history, and dangerous information are gathered in one book. The beautifully illustrated mini-poster pages showcase radicals, dissidents, folk singers, and rabble-rousers, from Emma Goldman to Tupac and Pablo Neruda to Fred Hampton.
Nicely curated set of diverse progressive short biographies with accompanying portraits by different artists. Includes familiar activists like Dorothy Day, Helen Keller and Rachel Carsen alongside heretofore unknown to me anti-colonialist fighters from different tribes and cultures. Writers, activists, artists, soldiers, musicians and politicians make for an interesting mix. I learned about some folks that I definitely want to read up on. Recommended.
I love biographies, but have a hard time knowing where to start/committing huge chunks of time to a single person. Firebrands gives great introductions to some seriously interesting figures in concise and beautifully illustrated chunks. A well-written and easy to digest starting point for anyone interested in revolutionary minds.
Super cool book. A great resource for social study teachers. There is a terrific depth of profiles across time, region and types of activists who did courageous work to improve the condition of their communities.
