If you are doing a research paper on stem cells or just want to know about stem cells (Yes, they are actually pretty cool once you get past the "Ugh, stupid assessmet" stage. However, I never want to hear about them again after reading millions of pages on that) this book is gold! Most of my research/basic knowledge came from this book. It explains all about Embryonic stem cells, Adult stem cells, their uses and complications. As well as ethics and ohter social implications and viewpoints. Great series of books for students and people who just want to learn more about certain topics.
A very helpful book that dives into details step by step easily without making any confusion for the reader. It can be used by either beginners or non-biological background science students. thanks to this book now I know about IPS cells and Shina Yamanaka the Nobel prize winner, also a lot of questions regarding haematopoietic stem cells and mesenchymal stem cells are answered. I gave it only 4 stars due to the repetition of information starting after chapter 10. I am looking forward to hearing about another series for this book but with more practical information and lab considerations.
A lot of good info. Still written with a pro embryonic slant. It does give a pretty good background on all the areas the biotech industry is going. The most annoying thing is when they write about people with ethical objections as if they are two years olds who are scared of the dark and its non existent monsters.
Had to read a bunch of books for my biology research assessment on Embryonic Stem Cells. Really good information from here. About all aspects of stem cell really. Including biological concepts and processes, uses, implications etc. Good research material.
