A guide for Catholics to work through and to finally understand anxiety, not only for yourself, but for the people in your life - from author, speaker, and Licensed Professional Counselor Catherine DiNuzzo.
Countless people quietly suffer through their anxiety, which lies to us and tells us that because of our anxiety, we are bad or unloveable. This resource educates readers about anxiety and its causes, through the Catholic lens, telling them that they are created good and are loved by God.
All of Catherine's years of counseling assembled into a guide, offering easy-to-implement tools, strategies, and techniques to help you experience mental wellness. The Catholic Guide Through Anxiety will help you view yourself as an integrated person and open doors to understand what's taking place biologically and spiritually during the onset of the anxious response, which is the place where most people get stuck in their battle to overcome anxiety.
As an added bonus, the Foreword is written by Fr. John Paul Mary Zeller, MFVA, Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word in Alabama. "Be assured of my prayers for you. You are not alone. When you bring your anxiety out into the Light, it has less power over you."
Read this book to see how you are beautifully made and to use that knowledge to overcome your feelings of anxiety! You’re simply human! Even The Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph experienced anxiety! (Luke 2:48.)

I’ve recently been coming to terms with the fact that I struggle with anxiety. My faith has long been a source of comfort for me so I decided to try and find a book that discusses anxiety through the Catholic lens. I picked this in particular book because it explains anxiety in a way that’s easy to understand while discussing why it isn’t sinful to have anxiety and why God created anxiety. I’ve been struggling with thoughts of how if I had more faith I could just give up all these worries to God and I’d be better. This book explicitly explains how anxiety is different than just normal fear and worry. It’s also nice that this book discusses Catholic tools to utilize when feeling anxious. Some of them seem so obvious but it’s nice to have a therapist really dive into about why it’s helpful. For example, the rosary! Such an easy repetitive prayer that is good at helping distract yourself from anxious thoughts, why didn’t I think of this? Overall, and very quick and easy read that is of value to Catholics who struggle with anxiety!
To be quite honest I read this on a day that I was dealing with anxiety and it gave me anxiety to not finish it to know what I should do about my anxiety so I read it all in one day. It was pretty easy read and kept me engaged while being very practical. I appreciated all the first hand application examples and it gave me more tools to use when I have anxiety (which is often lol). It also perhaps pushed me a little closer to taking the step of actually taking to a counselor, so for that I give it 5 stars! Of course what makes it great is its connection to Christ :)
A friend brought me this book when I was struggling with some anxiety - and it is such a wealth of practical strategies and advice. Loved the Catholic lens as well.
Someone I love has severe anxiety. I have pretty normal anxiety levels and not much stresses me out so it can be hard for me to relate her anxious moments and panic attacks. I met the author at a Catholic women's conference and decided to purchase two of her books, one for me and one for my anxious loved one. I'm glad I did. I have a little more understanding of how the anxious brain works and steps I can try to use to de-escalate an anxious situation. I really appreciate the biblical references: Mary and Joseph were anxious when they lost Jesus for three days. Mrs. DiNuzzo, MA, LPC makes sure we understand that point. The author also uses beautiful quotes from our favorite saints and incorporates our anxious mind healing through the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Really great book, I just didn’t care for the pandemic stuff... If we had another global lockdown attempt, I pray the church wouldn’t close and deny the Eucharist to the congregation (this wasn’t mentioned in the book, just my own thoughts I’m sharing here).
But you know, aside from adding that stuff in there, it was a great book about how to deal with anxiety. 😁
I really enjoyed this book! The analogies were helpful as well as the suggestion to combat anxiety. The only thing that was bothersome was the amount of types in the kindle edition.
This book was very helpful for those in ministry as well as for those who know people with mental health struggles. I would highly recommend this book for people looking to cultivate a deep spirituality rooted in a genuinely healthy humanity.
Real easy relief with scientific and biblical principles to understand and get under control your anxiety. It is really helpful to why and our bodies work to react to fear. But with the Sacred Heart mental wellness principles I see my future fully blessed.
