A man who can't shake his youthful reputation of instability.
A desperate midnight marriage.
Mav Stryker can't seem to convince the town of Sweet Water that he's not the kid he used to be. Of course, taking a gamble on high dollar cattle that didn't pay off, isn't helping anything. Especially when it causes him to face foreclosure.
Except, there is an inheritance, but he needs to act...by midnight.
Cassie Hoover has secretly been in love with Mav Stryker forever. He's never noticed her, of course. No man has. After all, she's "the girl with cancer." Except her cancer is in remission and she's more than ready for a family of her own.
If she marries Mav to help him get his inheritance, will he learn to love her in return? Or will it be the biggest mistake she ever made?
Desperation led Mav Stryker to finally make a strong commitment to the Lord. Most of his life had been just about living for himself. His siblings thought he still needed to grow up. When his latest plan raising a new mixed herd of cattle seemed to be about to fail, he knew he would lose his ranch. Deciding to pray and seek the Lord's counsel, had him finding a letter he had never opened. It was sitting in a drawer for years and the deadline to receive an unexpected inheritance would end at midnight. The letter required Mav to get married, stay married and continue to live in North Dakota. Where was he going to get a bride by midnight?
Cassie Hoover, was introduced in some previous stories. She has finally finished all of her treatments for cancer and has been declared cancer free. She has had a secret crush on Mav for over 15 years and he has never once noticed her. So she has decided he must not be the man for her. When she hears that he needs to find a bride by midnight, she has no plans to volunteer. She wants a man to choose her for herself but she agrees to go to the church where she expects to see many other women trying to become Mav's wife. When no one steps forward to be his bride, Cassie finds herself stepping forward to marry a man who is a virtual stranger.
I loved how Mav really decided to become the man that Cassie needed. He really wanted to be a good husband and to have people realize he had matured and wasn't irresponsible any more. I had forgotten that his mom and brothers were from the original Sweet Water Series where a rich man had given inheritances to many of the Sweet Water single men and women similar to the one that Mav received. It was so sweet to read the discussion between Mav's mom and her new husband about their desires to see Mav mature. They both knew about the letter and the deadline and were waiting to see if Mav would take up the offer.
Every one of these books have been enjoyable in this series and I'm hoping that Mav's sister Lark will get a story of her own.
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
Oh my! What would you do if you found a letter that said you could have a billion dollars if you got married before midnight? Well, Mav Stryker being down on his luck financially but guided by the Lord to find just such a letter decides to make sure the offer is legit and to make it known in the small town of Sweet Water, North Dakota that he’s in search of a bride for that very night. This fourth book in the Flyboys of Sweet Briar Ranch has a slight Cinderella feel to it when Mav, the outgoing risk taking fellow that he is, can’t seem to have even one woman take him up on his offer. Meanwhile, Cassie Rowe, who has had a crush on Mav for over a decade, has made a vow to God not to chase after or pine over him anymore since he’s never really ever noticed her, leaving it all in God’s hands. Yet feeling heartbroken knowing her crush is about to marry, she allows her friend to talk her into going to the church where his wedding will happen and getting her all beautified beforehand to make her feel better. She feels witnessing it will give her closure to move on but God had other plans. A wonderfully sweet story of answered prayers, changed people and romantic dreams that become realities. The book shows that God does work things for the good, He answers prayers but it’s also important for individuals to look at themselves, their weaknesses and to not just want to be better for themselves and especially for those they care about but to actually work at being better. The other back stories that are continuing to develop are definitely intriguing as this series continues. I purchased this book as part of the eight book set titled Flyboys of Sweet Briar Ranch. I read for the enjoyment and voluntarily review so that others may know what to expect and authors may be helped by critique and encouragement.
He faced his biggest failure. She faced her dream come true. This book explores how sometimes our biggest problems turn out to be a blessing. Mav is facing losing his farm. He made some decisions quickly, without researching and now he is facing financial ruin. He seems to always be failing. His family even jokes about it, but he really wanted to succeed. Feeling like there’s nowhere to turn, he feels impressed to empty out a desk drawer that he’s been stuffing papers and mail in for a while. As he pulls papers out a letter from an attorney, sent some time ago, telling him he is the recipient of one billion dollars and all he has to do is be married by midnight of that very day, a significant problem since he isn’t even dating. Seeing it as his only solution he contacts the preacher to arrange a wedding that night, announces to the town that he wants to be married by midnight without mentioning the money, and settles in at the diner to await his bride. Cassie has had a crush on Mav forever. When she hears of his announcement she’s tempted to head to the diner, but she had decided she needed to move on from Mav, so she stayed home. When it was time for Mav to head to the church, no one had come to offer to marry him so he heads to the church alone. The ones who didn’t follow him on his walk were already waiting in the church, like Cassie. When she sees him alone waiting at the alter she steps up and offers to be his wife. So starts a fun story of learning to value another person even under different circumstances and building a relationship of trust and cooperation. This is a Christian romance and so there are many references to teachings and beliefs generally presented just as conversation. I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
All of Jessie’s books include wonderful, relatable characters, a sweet, clean romance and profound thoughts to ponder and to take to heart. This book is no exception. Mav and Cassie have both chosen to let God guide their actions, rather than to hope that God will approve of what they wanted to do. God guides them to each other. Mav is in dire financial straits and in danger of losing his farm. He is too proud to ask his family for help. Though he has a reputation for flakiness, for not following things through or taking the easy way out in the past, he has grown up and working hard to be a successful farmer. Unfortunately he did not make wise investments. After asking God to help him find a way forward out of this trouble, Mav finds a letter promising him a fortune if he is married by a certain date and only if he and his bride stay married for at least a year and reside in North Dakota. The expiration of the offer is midnight on the day he finds the letter. Pride keeps him from mentioning the money when he announces to one and all that he will marry that day and he will meet any applicants at the diner. Mav is given a lesson in humility, as there are no applicants. Cassie has promised herself and God that she would let him lead her in her life rather than chase after what she has wanted for years, which has been Mav. She has survived cancer and has made a life for herself, but Mav has never even noticed her, or really talked to her. She goes to his wedding expecting him to wed another woman, but when no one steps forward she does. Their marriage of convenience gradually turns into a love match as they let God’s guidance and teachings show them the way forward.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Mav Stryker (the youngest and most immature brother), is at the end of his rope! He has no income left, no way to feed his animals, no way to make his payments! He calls on the name of the Lord, His Savior, begging Him to show Him which way to go, what step to take first. Then, he decided that wasn’t sincere enough, so he fell on his knees and prayed harder than he had prayed in years. Then he heard a small voice telling him to open his desk drawer. What? Open the drawer. It’s so full he has to smash everything down and put a hand on top of the pile and open it with his other hand and when he lifts that stack up, he sees a letter from a law firm that looked pretty important. He didn’t ever recall seeing it before. He opened it and it said that if he married someone by midnight of a certain date he would inherit One Billion Dollars! He read it again, very slowly, then looked at his watch and it was-TODAY!!! Oh, no! First, he had to get someone to verify that it was legit! He drove straight over to his mom and stepdad’s house. After all, his stepdad was an attorney, himself. His parents saw him coming, and they were holding hands, then he put his arms around his wife to steady her. They had been praying he would respond to the letter, but had almost given up hope. So, he finds out that the letter is, indeed, a legitimate document. He cannot believe his eyes or ears! So, he goes to the Sweet Water Diner, without saying why, but just that he is getting married today, and all interested ladies should come see him at the diner. Cassie, the sweet girl who had cancer for so long, but defeated it, has been in love with Mav ever since she was about 15 years old. Never even looked at another boy! When she heard that Mav was getting married that day her heart fell. Well, she had given him up to the Lord a year ago so that she could move on with her life. When her friends find out that Mav is getting married by midnight that day, they come to see her and then talk her into at least agreeing to go to his wedding. She refused to go fight over him at the diner. But she would go to his wedding to finalize everything in her mind. Much to Mav’s surprise, not one single woman or girl approached him all day at the diner. Not even the owner, who was single, would marry him. Secretly, he was glad, because he really didn’t think they were a good fit! And, this was forever! But, he was NOT going to mention the money. If nobody would choose him for himself, then he would just sell his ranch, his cattle, everything, and move away from Sweet Water. So, at 11:30, he walked over to the church, where the preacher waited and most of Sweet Water, as well, getting heckled most of the way by the ones who had stayed at the diner with him to see if anyone showed up to marry him. When no one was there to marry him after he had waited a few minutes, the preacher asked him where his bride was. He said “Well, I don’t actually have one, so if the Lord wants me to get married tonight, He’s going to have to provide her.” And then there was a hush and some rustling and soon he saw some feet, a dress, legs, a body, a pretty face with pretty curled brown hair standing beside him. AND, THIS IS THE FIRST HALF OF THE BOOK!!! Y’all, this is absolutely one of the best, sweetest, amazing books I’ve ever read. I literally read it straight through, with maybe 2 short breaks. I could NOT stop reading until it was finished! Oh, it was so, so fantastic!! It might be Jessie’s best ever! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 💙💖💙💖 I received a copy of the book and gave my honest opinion of the book.
Mav has always been somewhat on the wild side (never in a bad way, though), but he's trying to get his act together. Unfortunately, bad choices have left him face to face with bankruptcy. When he prays, he's led to discover a letter offering him a billion dollars if he's married by a given date - which is that day. Cassie has had a crush on Mav for most of her life, but he's never even noticed her. She's given this up to God and promised she won't chase him any more. Can these two find their way to each other in time? And should they marry, will they be able to build a true partnership based on something other than just the money?
I have to admit that Mav started off rather on my bad side. A man who's such a mess that he can't pay a maid to stay around, and thinks that therefore his only hope is a wife?? Definitely not an attitude I'm happy with. Fortunately, he grows and develops a lot over the course of the story - or perhaps he's already done most of the growing and it just has to spill over into some areas of his life. Readers of earlier books set in Sweet Water may have come across Cassie before and been aware of her crush, so it's great to see her finally get what she's always wanted - and to find that, while it's not always roses, they're both willing to make it work. An inspiring story - recommended.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
I enjoyed this surprise marriage of Mav and Cassie. Cassie is a cancer survivor and had a crush on Mav since she was a teenager, but Mav never noticed her. When Mav is about to lose his ranch, he prays to God for His help. He hears a voice that tells him to open a drawer on his desk where he puts mail he doesn't want to deal with. He finds a letter that he never opened from a lawyer he never heard of. The letter says he will receive one billion dollars if he gets married before midnight and lives in North Dakota along with his wife. After reading the letter he realizes that the final date to be married is the same day he is reading the letter. He announces to the town's people that he will be at the diner to meet any woman who will marry him by midnight. When no one shows up by 11:30, he still goes to the church where the pastor is waiting to marry him to the woman he is going to marry. Most of the people from the town show up to see who Mav will marry. When no woman shows up and some people start laughing, Cassie goes up to the altar and agrees to marry Mav. Will their marriage survive and will they receive the money, and who is the benefactor? You will have to read the book to find out. I recommend this book to those who enjoy a clean Christian romance with lovable characters. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
On the brink of losing his ranch, God nudges Mav to open a drawer and reveal a letter offering him a billion dollars – with only one condition: he must marry before receiving the money. Okay, that is doable. There is only one problem – the deadline is midnight on that very night. Mav announces to the town that he will marry at 11:30 then waits in the town café for his bride to show up. He has told no one about the letter. Still believing in God’s sovereign power, Mav shows up at the church filled with town citizens, but no bride has arrived. To Mav’s amazement, Cassie steps out into the isle and agrees to be his bride. Mav has no idea that Cassie has been crushing on him for years.
Cassie and Mav have extremely different personalities. They are total opposites except in one thing: they both love God and desire to please Him. Is this enough to build a successful, committed marriage?
This is a fun, enjoyable read with very good Christian principles concerning selfless love and following God’s direction.
There are a couple of subplots that are a bit distracting, but they are mentioned in the previous book in this series. I am sure they will be developing in future books.
I received a copy of this book from the author. My review is voluntary and unbiased.
Mav Stryker has given his life to God after a lifetime of being irresponsible. He then finds an old letter in his mail stack stating he’ll inherit one billion dollars if he stays married for at least one year and they both stay in North Dakota. No problem…so he thinks. The letter states he must be married by midnight!
Cassie Hoover has loved Mav nearly her whole life, but he has never given her a second glance. She’s naturally quiet but has been trying to put Mav out of her heart since she’s in remission from cancer but doesn’t want to saddle any man with a wife who could become sick again.
When no one steps up to marry Mav by midnight, Cassie steps up to the altar.
You’ll fall in love with their Godly values as they learn about each other and fall in love. I seriously found myself wanting to be a better spouse to my husband and apply these values into our own marriage!
Another wonderful inspirational love story, Jessie Gussman!!
Have you ever known a fun-loving adult, who hasn't fully matured yet? Meet Marv, at the beginning of Jessie Gussman's "Just A Cowboy's Midnight Bride". Cassie's had a crush on Mav for over a decade, will he ever notice her?
I ❤️ how JG explores several opposites in this 📗: cherish vs neglect, childish vs mature, pushing vs patience, good reputation vs bad reputation, and selfish vs caring. I ❤️ that some Characters from JG's other Series, show up in this Story. I ❤️ how God helped turn Cassie's fearful no's, into faith-filled yes's. I ❤️ how God used Mav's financial crisis, to bring the Blessing of Cassie into his life!
I Highly Recommend You 📖 this Wonderful, Page-Turning, Christian, Western Romance, to see how God brings Marv and Cassie to their Lifetime 💞! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A man who can't shake his youthful reputation of instability.

Mav Stryker couldn't believe he was on the verge of losing his farm. He had made a lot of bad decisions in his life but always made it through. This time he didn't see any way out. All he could do was pray and hope God would listen. Mav couldn't believe it when he found the attorney's letter in his desk with the solution to all of his problems as long as he got married before midnight. He didn't have a girlfriend so all he could do was tell the town his intentions and hope a willing woman would show up to accept.
Cassie had been crushing on Mav since she was a child but he never noticed her. Letting her thoughts of romance with him go was a promise she made to God. She certainly wasn't going to show up at the church and beg him to marry her.
What a beautiful clean Western romance! I received a free book but this review is voluntary and honest.
Cassie has had a crush on Mav for years, but has given it over to God and has decided she won’t try to chase him. Mav’s about to lose his farm, but gives it over to God and finds a letter saying he can receive a billion dollars if he marries by midnight. Then Cassie is the only one willing to marry him. A sweet and inspirational book. I especially love how the author contrasts Cassie and Mav’s determination to go into marriage unselfishly and focus on the other person, while June’s husband can’t be bothered to even pick her up at the hospital so she can be discharged after having surgery for cancer. And in case you were wondering, yes Billy the Highlander steer has a cameo in the book.
Following God is the most important way to live. And the best way to grow a relationship. Mav figured this out when he surprisingly married Cassie at midnight. He was stuck living down his reputation, had grown since then but few saw that. Open to marrying anyone before midnight for wrong reasons, he waited all day for someone to take him up on his offer. Only Cassie stepped up as she saw how he had changed. Having been stuck on himself and been horrible with relationships, he had a long way to go to become a good husband. They worked through their differences by discussing and following God’s word, compromising when necessary, and being willing to change. Lovely story. Received ARC and this is my honest review.
Cassie has been in love with Mav since high school. She was the shy girl that no one seemed to notice. He was the larger than life guy. Now that Mav has a ranch of his own, he wants to prove that he's grown up and not the happy-go-lucky kid that everyone still accuses him of being.
To save his ranch, Mav must marry by midnight. Cassie has put her love life in God's hands. When she hears that Mav plans to marry whomever steps up by midnight, she knows that is not what she needs to do, but circumstances find her marrying Mav at midnight. Mav just remembers her as the "girl who had cancer".
This is such a sweet book as they get to know each other. Mav convinces Cassie to say "yes" to some things. Cassie shows Mav that sometimes the slower life can be exciting as well.
Just a Cowboy's Midnight Bride is a marriage of convenience story where the small town's goof off had to be married by midnight. His hope of having a choice of who he wanted to marry was replaced by having to stand in front of a packed church alone with the preacher. A young woman steps out and walks up next to Mav. The preacher married them and he does not even know her name! He only knew her as the woman that had cancer. This marriage is definitely going to need help! So with both Mav and Cassie putting their faith in God and trying to make a foundation for love to grow on, this could possibly turn out to be a very romantic love story.
I received an advanced copy for review. I give it 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.
Cassie and Mav have both been subjected to unwanted opinions from the town folk. Cassie having conquered cancer now has the title "The girl that had Cancer." Mav being on the wild side growing up and having made a few bad decisions is now labeled with the title "A Rouge Idiot that can't be trusted." Finally finding the letter, the same as his siblings received, needed to be married before midnight. Cassie has loved him for over a decade, and steps up to be his bride. Excellent story and character development and proper bases for developing a marriage that many people ignore today, but shouldn't.
I LOVE this book! Cassie has had a crush on Mav Stryker since she was about 15. Last year, she told the Lord she was going to stop wasting her life wanting someone and going after him. Mav owns his own ranch but last year was horrible and he's about to go under with debts. In a last ditch effort, he tells the Lord that her will do God's will and stop trying to just do what he wants if the Lord would save him. I love the side stories about June and the "Old Coots" and their cooking classes. As always with Jessie Gussman in this series, this delightful story is served with some wonderful marriage advice!
Finally! Finally we get Mav's story and Cassie gets her HEA! Mav has to be married by midnight but he's not even dating anyone. Cassie promised she wouldn't chase that dream anymore but saving Mav from humiliation wasn't chasing him, was it? This was such a sweet story and the perfect addition to the other Sweet Water books. But it's not the end yet. It can't possibly be the last book in this series. What happens to Billy and his precious pig? How about those three old coots? Does Miss June's husband wake up and smell the roses? Do those little girls get a better list? And what about Ellen and Roger? I'm invested in these people and I need answers!
I had an ARC for this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Mav finds a letter stating he will gain a billion dollars if he’s married by midnight. He sits in the diner after announcing he’ll interview women to be his wife and marry at 11:30 that night. Cassie has had a crush on Mav for years, but thinks lots of women will want to marry him. She instead goes to the church that night and finds no one has been interested in marrying him so she walks up the aisle and marries him. They are both committed to the marriage, but must learn to know each other and work together. A great book about commitment and communication.
Loved Cassie and Mav's story. Cassie had loved Mav her whole life, even after she beat cancer and he didn't even know her name. Mav was in financial ruin and finally turned his life over to God. When God directed him to a letter he didn't even know he had, he knew God still cared and was making a way for him even when it was a way Mav would never have taken. I stayed up way to late to find out how he would pull off the instructions of this letter in less than a day. If you like clean heart felt stories, you will enjoy this book. I highly recommend 'Just A Cowboy's Midnight Bride'. I received this book from the publisher. The thoughts and comments are my own.
I loved, loved this story. I have been hoping that Cassie, a sweet, faith filled woman that has to fight cancer and is now in remission would get her story. She has had a secret long time crush on Mav, the person in town that every considered the not stable of reliable, but that didn’t change her feelings for him. Mav finds himself in a tough situation and realizes that it is time to turn to God and listen to Him and serve Him. And boy does He have a big surprise for Mav. Jessie Gussman is so creative in the way she gets them together, this story had me smiling and chuckling once again. She has such a way to show strength and character in her stories. I really loved this sweet story.
I got the best of everything-I got Jessie’s new book read by the incomparable Jay Dyess. Mav Stryker had a well deserved reputation as a goofball and being irresponsible-but he’s been trying to change and mature. The only one who sees it is Cassie because she’s been in love with him for years while he doesn’t even know who she is. Jessie works her magic and brings back a trope from her very first series in North Dakota. It’s so fun to revisit the premise of that series. I’m so glad Cassie and Mav get their own story and Cassie starts to come out of her shell so that cancer doesn’t always define her. I received this as an arc. Clean with Christian themes.
Another great, clean book in this wonderful series by Jessie Gussman. Mav is in trouble, his life is a complete mess and he’s afraid he’s going to lose his ranch. He prays for God to help him and finds a letter from a lawyer that apparently was in his desk drawer for months. He has until midnight to marry and has to stay married for a year and stay in North Dakota and he will receive one billion dollars! Cassie has had a crush on Mav for a long time but since she had cancer in the past, she figures nobody including Mav is interested in her. Watching Mav mature in his relationship to God and Cassie was amazing! *I received this as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.
Mav, a man who has rededicated his life to God, vows to do things God’s way. A discovered letter could fix his financial problems, IF he marries by midnight TONIGHT!
Cassie wants to live her life following God’s leadership always, even if that doesn’t include Mav, her crush for years who has never noticed her.
Through a chain of events they actually marry and begin to navigate through trusting and building a relationship with each other.
A sweet story with Biblical themes, adorable side characters, and some kisses thrown in.
I received an ARC from the author for my voluntary opinion.
Jessie's books are edifying. I would say they are also light reads, but she does tackle difficult topics. Bad things happen to the characters or because of their choices, but there is redemption, grace, and forgiveness. She weaves in truths about how we should leave as Christians, which serve as reminders as I listen along.
Love the pig and cow story woven through this series.
I've listened to her books on YouTube, "Say With Jay." He's a great narrator, even for the women's voices. It's the type of book that you can listen to while doing something else. Any can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend starting the series in order as several connect characters and places.
Cassie has had a crush on Mav since she was about 15 years old. She made a promise to God that she wasn't going to chase after Mav. If God wanted them to be together, then He would provide a way.
Mav didn't know what he was going to do. It looked like he might lose everything. He got down on his knees and did some serious praying, asking God to help him. A tiny voice was telling him to open the desk drawer. When he did and took some of the papers out, the top envelope still in the drawer was from an attorney. When he opened and read it, he found out he had until midnight that day to get married, and he would get one billion dollars.
You'll have to read the book for the rest of the story. You definitely won't be disappointed.
I received a free ARC, and this is my honest opinion.
I was so excited to read Mav’s story and was not disappointed. Mav has to have faith in the Lord and do better in order to solve his financial troubles. This leads him to Cassie, a women who has had a crush on him since childhood. Cassie has had cancer and does her best to appreciate all that has been given to her and to be a good friend to those around her. When Mav needs a wife she steps out to marry him when no others do. This is a beautiful Christian Romance that is full of love, faith and wonderful friends and family support.
At the end of his rope, Maverick doesn't see any hope for saving his ranch. Finding a mysterious letter gives him the hope he needs, but there's only one catch...he has to get married by midnight, tonight! Cassie has crushed on Mav for years but he's never really noticed her. Finally, deciding to move on, she has found contentment. Suddenly, though, Mav has announced he's getting married tonight, to any girl who'll have him. Should she be the one? And can these two find the kind of love that lasts a lifetime?
Finally we get to read Cassie and Mav’s story! And, even if a wedding on such short notice and in those strange terms is not easily believable, Jessie works her magic again and it’s another great book, filled with wisdom and God’s word! It’s the art of fiction after all! I enjoyed the way Mav improved and I had shivers when they grew closer to each other one step at a time. I’m eager to read the next book and cross their path again!! “ Marriage is fun. Laughter should be the soundtrack of your marriage. Make it fun, Mav.”
