I loved the approach to revealing this story ftom a paranormal perspective.Bravo! Couldn't stop reading it till done.Recommend for paranormal and History lovers😇
An emotional, surprising view of the horror of Nazi cruelty. Seen through the memories of victims and perpetrators. Vanquished, but not forgotten, by love.
Wonderfully written. Each novella contained a highlight of the series for me. “Five” had the sharpest prose—brisk and heartbreaking, not a single extra word. “Four” had the best ending—I teared up, which is extremely rare for me when reading. “Three” had the tensest climax (the train). “Two” had a great opening scene and starred my favorite POV character. “One” had the best psychological examination of a character, plus a very good epilogue. I can’t recommend this series enough. My one complaint would be that Vilem’s extended family tree was a bit hard to grasp, since we don’t meet many of them personally. This wouldn’t be the biggest deal if this didn’t come into play in the plot. Still, I clearly love this series and will recommend it to anyone who in interested in historical literature.
The horrors of the holocaust told in the form of ghost stories from the perspective of the ghosts trapped at the museum to the night guard who is trying to set them free. Just brilliant.
I've read many books of the Holocaust. this was very good and I read it quickly, not able to put it down. I would recommend it to all interested in WWII.
The Barracks of the Holocaust is a beautifully written and deeply haunting book about one of the darkest chapters in human history. Elyse Hoffman’s unique narrative—where the ghosts of Holocaust victims and Nazi perpetrators confront the past—offers a striking and original way to understand the full horror of the Final Solution.
Through the voices of the victims, you’re drawn into their suffering, their strength, and their loss. And by entering the minds of the perpetrators, you catch a chilling glimpse of how twisted and senseless their evil truly was. It's disturbing—but necessary.
I was incredibly moved. I cried. I found myself reflecting on every page, and I truly believe this book should be read and discussed in every school. It’s a powerful reminder of what humanity is capable of—and why remembering is so important, especially today.
I've never been so emotionally invested in any book, documentary, program, etc.!! This book took me on a roller-coaster of feelings. I read it in one night. The stories are gut-wrenching and very raw. I do appreciate the way it all wrapped up. Highly recommend this to anyone with any interest in the Holocaust. Tbh, I have only just recently wanted to dive deeper into that horrifying time, but this book just shoved me right into full-blown respect and research mode!!
I think what is cool about this book is that it is a new take on the Holocaust, different from any other on the same topic. rather than an account of one individual's experience, you get to see the perspectives of not only victims, but also people in power. at times I just felt that the writing style was unsophisticated, the main character's storyline rushed, and the characters hard to follow towards the very end.
Through the eyes of camp ghosts.A Camp guard is possessed by both victims and nazis as he works the night shift. Each story fills in details as to what has occurred at the local holocaust camp, allowing the guards family to survive extermination.
Wow, this was a well constructed novel. It goes beyond historical fiction. I liked how the author pulled all the stories and characters together. It definitely made me cry.
An exceptional story, gives an insight into the holocaust that you don't always think about. The characters are very easy to picture and the story flows well.
Absolutely amazing book. The author combined historical accuracy and extremely good fictional characters into a book I will be thinking about for a long time.
