Gorgeous art and the word “One,” unifies this lovely collection of short poems that share the story of the Bible. “One word - “ the Creation
“One drop - “ Noah’s ark
“One stone - “ David & Goliath
“One big fish - “ Jonah
Journey through the Old Testament and then the New Testament, one short poem at a time until you end up with an overall picture of the Bible.

One Perfect Plan: The Bible’s Big Story in Tiny Poems by Nancy Tupper Ling with illustrations by Alina Chau is a stunning book that takes little ones through the entire redemptive story of the Bible using poetry and breathtaking illustrations.

I love how every poem (minus one) starts with the word ONE, emphasizing there is one God, one Savior, one cross, one empty tomb. The book begins at one word from God, which brings light and life- “how wondrous!” It takes you to the one garden where one serpent deceived Adam and Eve, bringing about one world broken by sin. Fortunately, we have a merciful God with a plan that “is perfect and true.” From there you’ll meet Noah, Joseph, David, Esther, Jonah, and more. All leading to that one child, who was “God’s precious gift and salvation plan.”

The simplicity, yet profound truths, found in these short poems are perfect for kids as young as 3, and are such a delight to read aloud. Most of the poems are only three lines, but they sum-up the stories wonderfully, and provide the Bible verse where you can read more. For example: “One stone- sets sail from David’s strong sling; Goliath soon falls to a shepherd turned king. – Read more about David in 1 Samuel 17:1-50.”

These “tiny but mighty” poems combined with the vibrant and unique artistic style of Chau, make this book truly something special. I highly recommend adding this one to your home libraries.

In One Perfect Plan, Nancy Tupper Ling guides your child through the Bible’s big story in tiny poems.

The Storyline of Scripture

This children’s book journeys through the entire storyline of Scripture—from God speaking light into darkness to heaven on earth, when every tear is wiped away. Ling highlights the unforgettable people and stories of redemption along the way, including Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, David, Daniel, and Jesus.

I was especially pleased to see Ruth and Esther from the Old Testament, as well as the Great Commission and Pentecost in the New Testament. The illustrations by Alina Chau are delightful, filled with gorgeous colors and vivid imagery. Every picture is epic, and beautifully brought to life, keeping your children engaged.

Faith in God’s Word

Each short poem also brings out God’s character, showing how he keeps his promises, saves his people, and expands his kingdom. There is actually quite a bit of theology here, and Bible verses are included after each poem to bring you back to Scripture.

One Perfect Plan is a wonderful book that will walk your children through the storyline of Scripture and strengthen your family’s faith in God’s Word.

I received One Perfect Plan compliments of Nancy Tupper Ling in exchange for my honest review.

One Perfect Plan is a lovely picture book that teaches children the story of the Bible using poems. It traces through well known stories in the Old and New Testaments and culminates in Christ's return. The illustrations are stunning and the idea to take the storyline of Scripture and break it down into individual poems is so creative and unlike any children's book I've read before.

The intended audience for One Perfect Plan is children but I believe adults will benefit from it too! One aspect that I appreciate is the book's attention to detail. Many believe that Daniel was between 70 and 90 years old and the book portrays him as an old man. The book also includes Scripture references that coordinate with the poems so parents and children can dig deeper into the full context of each story.

I believe this book is a great addition to any home library and the dedication page with spaces to write who the book is to and from make it a wonderful gift idea! One Perfect Plan is a book we will be reading on repeat and I can't wait to read more by Nancy Tupper Ling!

One Perfect Plan: The Bible’s Big Story in Tiny Poems (WaterBrook), written by Nancy Tupper Ling and illustrated by Alina Chau makes the essence of the Bible accessible to young readers in a colorful and engaging way. Each spread features two or more stories from the Bible, written in easy-to-understand language, laced with affirming messages of love and hope. Repetition and a catchy refrain invite young listeners to “read” along. Alina Chau’s soft illustrations unfurl and flow in vivid watercolors across the pages, perfectly complimenting Tupper Ling's lyrical writing. Rife with symbolism and layered details, young readers will love pouring over the pages – perhaps while their adults tell them the more complete stories summed up in the poems. (Scriptural references are listed underneath each poem.) Whether one reads this book in one sitting, or use it as a jumping off point for deeper study, One Perfect Plan: The Bible’s Big Story in Tiny Poems imprints the message of God’s love on the readers’ hearts.

I had the pleasure of receiving a copy of this book from Nancy Tupper Ling, a beautifully illustrated book of brief poems by Nancy of various Bible verses. For bedtime or perhaps at snack time, it will make a nice way to introduce some stories from the Bible to young children. From Noah and the flood to the special story of Jesus' birth and the tale of Adam and Eve, gorgeous illustrations by Alina Chau will entice the young ones to want to know more. It encompasses the Bible's entire story arc, a loving beginning to telling this story. My brother has a young granddaughter this will be perfect for. I will certainly pass it on!

This book is a wonderful telling of stories in the Bible in a condensed way through short poems and creative illustrations. I enjoyed seeing the references underneath the poems to look up the story more. The illustrations are beautiful and imaginative. Some of my favorites were Eden with the fruit illustration, the poem about Abraham and Sarah, and the page about Gabriel speaking to Mary and then the page next to it with Jesus’ birth. Those two were really beautiful with the illustrations and poems side-by-side. The illustration of David as a young boy in his story with Goliath and then David later as king on the same page was so creative!

The name says it all! One Perfect Plan is the perfect way to introduce young children to the Bible. It touches upon important Bible stories repeating the word “one.” The book opens with one word, one garden, one serpent, and one God. Rhyming couplets summarize the Bible’s big stories. Scripture references point to passages to read more. It’s an amazing overview! The illustrations by Alina Chau capture the Bible’s wonder and majesty. I received a complimentary copy of this book. What a lovely book! Gorgeous illustrations from Alina Chau and beautiful writing from Nancy Tupper LIng celebrate the beauty in a broken world through the stories of the Bible. One and sometimes two repeats throughout, giving the poems a cohesiveness that feels exciting. One couple pray for a child to love, one cry to God for freedom, one stone from David's sling, leading us to one empty tomb, one Holy Spirit, and one heaven on earth. Beautiful in every way.

This richly illustrated, lyrically written book is a perfect introduction to Bible stories for young children. This would be a great addition to a child's Christmas stocking or Easter basket, a wonderful baby shower or First Communion gift, and a meaningful birthday gift for a child from birth to early elementary school age and up. The book provides scripture references for further reading, which both older children and adults can appreciate and benefit from. This is a book with lasting value.

This was a stunning piece of writing. I am amazed at Nancy Tupper Ling's skill in summarizing the key theological points of the Bible in just a few haikus. It is a powerful read, and the illustrations are striking. As of right now, my favorite Christian picture book I've read this year. Highly recommended.
