I haven't read anything remotely academic and geography related in a long time. This was a nice collection of essays, made even more vivid by the fact that I've lived and worked in the parts of KY that a couple of the essays referred to. I was wondering how the folks at the geography conferences I've been to would respond to them though. I really like anecdotal research and relating stories to the sense of place, but there seem to be a group out there that takes these kinds of personalized narratives as an afront to the "scientific" merits of social science.
