Detective Max Grady couldn’t be more irritated… Sent out to an abandoned barn with his partner, Cassie Reynolds, he’s forced into a high-stakes case where bodies are dropping faster than he can track them. The killer is outmaneuvering them, sticking to the shadows and giving him nothing to work with – no evidence, no DNA and no suggestion of who they are or why they are on a killing spree.
What would you do if denied the one thing you want most out of life? For some, there are evidently no limits constraining the pursuit of their dream. Detective Max Grady and his partner, Detective Cassie Reynolds, are assigned a confounding double homicide with no immediately identifiable clues to follow. The urgency of the case escalates as bodies keep dropping, but no one has even figured out a plausible motive much less identified any potential suspects. The brutality of the murders suggests someone is on a personal quest for something, someone who will allow nothing to stand in their way. In what is a positively gripping story about the search for a vicious killer with seemingly no regard for their victims, our two detectives follow every possible lead and work with dogged persistence to apprehend this individual before any more life is lost. When the case takes a threatening and personal turn for Grady, his resolve to find the answers he needs is only strengthened. If you enjoy tension-filled psychological thrillers, don’t miss out on this one.

A really great read. Some books start off ok & then waffle along to plump up the pages & the storyline repeats itself or gets lost on the way. THIS ONE DOES NOT! It is as good from the first page to the last. The two detectives are believable characters & you don't get too much information of their lives to go off on a tangent, but just enough to give you a small taster of who they are. The storyline is well written & very tense, keeping you up until the early hours, just to read a little more. I liked the fact that you know who the killer is halfway through the book & you get an insight of their life & why they kill. It's exciting, tense & you so want the detectives to find one clue as to who the culprit is. It takes a while for them to suddenly realise what they've been missing & this ramps up the tension. I really enjoyed this book. It is the first I have read by this author & will certainly be looking at other books from her.
Detective Max Grady is not at a good place in his life. He omitted passed away and he just found out that she died from a drug overdose. No way to know if it was intentional or just bad drugs from the street. His brother is mentally challenged in a home while he is still struggling with shooting his father. All of a sudden he’s called out to a double murder which soon becomes a triple murder when the woman who was killed was pregnant. From this point forward nothing makes sense while two more bodies are found. With a clever cast of characters, non stop action, intrigue, mystery and an awesome storyline you will NOT be able to put this one down.
K.J.Kalis created a well written police mystery. Detectives Grady and Reynolds are solid detective team. They focus on solving the crime. The characters are shown as hard working and following police procedure. A realistic portrayal of how a rural sheriff's department and a large city police department operate and the political and financial challenges they face. This is a fast paced novel that will hold your intetest. The villan is driven to kill. In the end a motive is found and the author shows how mental illness plays out on real life drama. If you enjoy police mysteries. You will love this book.

A woman obsessed with becoming a mother, a partner who could not be relied upon, and his pregnant wife and mistress. That is the scenery with which Max Grady has to work with to find the culprit who has a demented mind and is dangerous. Five Cold Bodies has a great plot and is very entertaining. I'm looking forward to reading the following book in this series.

Grady's having a bad day-- he just buried his mother. She had OD'd on street drugs for pain. Now it is just him and his brother Ben, who is in a mental hospital. To top of his day -- two bodies in Buckhead County, a rural area. Grady's mind set isn't in a good place let alone on his job. But the case he and Cassie are on his bodies piling up and no killer in sight. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down.
Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Ryan was awaiting the arrival of the child he and his wife were having any day. He was being a bad man sleeping with several women. One was pregnant and the other one wanted to be but she couldn’t seem to get pregnant. Now the murders begin. Will they catch her before she kills again? The plot was good but I am not sure I like the detective, Max Grady.
This book is a page turner. suspenseful and keeps you guessing from the first page to the last. Wow. From the first page it grabs your interest and holds it to the very last page. I will look for more in this series and also from this author.

Oh I do enjoy these Grady and Reynolds books. This one kept me reading. The way it’s been written takes me right there in my mind. Thank you for being an author who does that for me with your writing….now to go read the next and last book in this series….Max Grady messed up but oh so good at his job.
While Kalis's books are good, the sentence structure could use a good editor. So many times the writer uses dangling modifiers which caused my brain to get stuck trying to put the words in the right order. As a former editor, this drove me crazy. The stories are great, and the writing is good, but these errant sentences mean 4 stars instead of 5.
This edition of the series seemed to scream behavior troubles. Not only with the suspect but with Detective Grady. The suspect had some major mental breakdown but Grady had an almost hateful behavioral change. A side that was not very appealing.
Second book of K.J.Kalis and read one last week, now one this week. A great read, drama, emotions, ups and downs. Most likely I will add him to my favorite authors. I seemed to get hooked on the good authors. And K.J.Kalis now added.
I liked this book with its complicated hero. Grady is seemingly an unfeeling man, but below his gruff exterior he cares about justice. I would like to learn more about him and his colleagues.
This book was exciting from start to finish. Wish there was more of it. Can't wait to tell my friends then I can wait to read his other books. So good.
If you're up for a lot of extra none essential information in between the story line, which by the way is pretty good, this is a book for you! I ended up skimming a lot.
This book was so well written with so many twists and turns and likable characters. This was my first time read from this author but not my last. This book also got you hooked from the very first pages. Recommended read.
