This author said ‘let’s take the mammy stereotype & make it s3xy’. Island literally bent over backwards for everyone except Clay….and that was only for like 10 chapters.

Nova….I will not be reading her story. It’s weird as h3ll to get your hair done for YEARS by someone you don’t like. And for Island to sit up here & forgive talking about it’s ok….girl no the h3ll it’s not. Idk why that part bothered me so much. Like why would you do someone’s hair for YEARS that doesn’t like you. And also she’s only nice to her bc she found she she ran a women’s shelter??? Like why is that a condition to even like someone. And also how in the world did she not know that if Island was doing her hair for years??? Ugh that annoyed me so bad.

And the book was 400+ pages for them to only have s3x ONCE and we didn’t even get to read all of it. It literally fades to black. Like we are grown. That p1ssed me all the way off.

I really enjoyed this one and couldn’t put it down! It has all the makings of the romance stories I’d typically DNF: controlling ML, FL who’s strong 99% of the time but weak when the plot calls for it, “romantic” moments that made me cringe and relationships that progressed too quickly (the end scene with Island’s grandparents and the kids). However, the chemistry between Island and Clay kept me reading anyway. I would’ve gladly read a whole second book about them, to be honest.

Island ignored a lot of things and there’s a point where the book makes excuses for unacceptable behavior from Clay. This guy frequently watched her through security feeds, got rid of her car because he wanted her to drive one he bought, followed her and just showed up where she was and that was all after the financial blackmail that kicked off the story. It’s hard to imagine coming back from something like that, to be honest, and I felt icky the entire time she comes around to excusing it because he “did it for Regan”.

I love how fiercely Clay loves the people in his life, but his controlling and stalk-y behavior was never really checked because any time Island complained about it, he laughed it off and kept doing it. Again, I kept reading because their chemistry was so good, but it’s weird that was never properly dealt with.

Also, the plot with Genevieve was odd because you’d think telling the judge she only wanted the white grandchild would’ve been enough. It was obvious she never cared about Regan and I’m glad Regan has grandparents that actually care about her now.

The proposal was cringe-y and Taz was never likable, to be honest. I found the confession in court unbelievable. I get it, romance novels require suspending disbelief but my day job makes it so I couldn’t find that scene anything but unrealistic and cringey. A judge allowing that without sanctioning the attorney that brought that mess to the courtroom? A lawyer not worried about an obvious malpractice suit for putting a witness on the stand and not knowing blackmail wouldn’t provoke the opposite testimony they were going for? I couldn’t buy any of it.

Anyway, all those issues aside, I enjoyed the story. I like them together and the tension was mostly hot. The red flags though… imagine dating someone that pulled that restaurant bit, constantly knows where you are at all times and has dangerous men at his beck and call? There’s a point when hot and protective turns into someone being afraid to leave…

Clay & Island!!!😍😍😍👍🏾

Fiery Romance is Clay and Island's story. They met because of a misunderstanding and because of this, Clay was being investigated for supposedly mistreatment of his children. Regan and Abe are Clays children. Island witnessed Reagan's nanny talking about how ugly and unruly her hair was. Island had a fit and reported the treatment to her friend.. Clay confronted Island about it and that was when the fiery attraction began. Clay bought the bank that had the loan on Island's shops and held her hostage. He gave her a choice become Regan's nanny or lose the shops. As they bickered that passion kept on building. These two are different and the same!! Check it out, you'll love it! Awesome series👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

eh.

for someone so “fierce and fiery” she sure doesn’t know how to properly stick up for herself

i’m clearly a masochist because i keep coming back to this god forsaken author.

the concept was there, the execution however, was not.

and of course with every romance with kids, the kids are the best part.

how do u have a single dad romance but the dad has no clue how to be a parent to his biological child??????

More in the 2.5 region.
The story developed well but the first half was really annoying and OTT.

I feel like there's a right way and a wrong way to write nanny books, and I do feel like I'm a little bit of an expert since I've read so many.. I absolutely HATE when nannies feel the need to say something about the mother's pictures. She is dead. The children are still grieving. How fucking dare you make this man feel guilty for keeping her picture up. I honestly hated Island after that. And then he packed everything away and into storage. It just felt dirty after that. The son Abe deserves so much better. I feel like Island catered more towards the daughter and the rush at the end to make Abe happy didn't sit right with me. He should have got to live with his grandmother like he wanted, his dad doesn't deserve him.

ALSO how are you gonna have this cover of a man insinuating smut and it is the slowest burn that fades to black. 400 pages for nothing.

I loved this book. The plot line would most definitely be four stars but the spice was where a star got misplaced.
The romance was there but it was a less descriptive, almost fade to black style of writing during what should have been a spicy scene.

Island and Clay were great main characters and the kids really made everything come together. Any other time blackmail would be frowned upon, but it was for the kids so it's alright. As a nanny Island really stepped up, while also trying to be a business owner. I think it was only convincing because Clay provided extra help for her, despite his so called hate for her at the beginning of the story. It was an interesting plot twist to have a custody battle for the kids.

The story is a HEA, stand alone but group series of other couples you meet in the book, nanny/boss, interracial romance.

Island is a boss, independent, younger black woman dealing with the burdens of society, medical issues and monetary issues and alot of them get address within this book appropriately. Truly a very broad view of world problems for women in general. She is the take no nonsense kind of woman you'd want as a friend; however I don't like her name. It works into the plot well but it was hard to imagine her character as a person and not just immediately think of, well, an island.

As a reader who actively works around military and veterans, I did not find Clay to be very true to character. More often than not, once leaving the military, most men become the jokers or pranksters. Nothing is too serious for them because of the experiences they have. I found Clay to be very overbearing, and although I still enjoyed him, I just have yet to meet a veteran who was as uptight and rigidly set in his ways like Clay was during the book. His money and his physical description was endearing and kept me reading, along with how his late wife's situation was handled. I was most accepting of his love for his children, and his emotional struggle as most men can feel this way with their children.

A very good quick read, only took a few hours. Safe for work or a good public coffee shop read.

WOW!!! Why I waited this long to read this book, I do not know 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️so pissed with myself 🤬😤!!!

I absolutely do not understand why I waited this long to read this book. It was fire 🔥 and good and a perfect balance between storyline, characters and relatable situation.
Clay was super, super, super BDE. This man was THE MAN in all and every aspect. Disciplined, protector, fighter, FIERY. Island was the perfect match to his energy and she to had this energy all around her.
Few points that I didn’t like: 1) why there was no background or more history as in the reason why Genevieve only wanted Abe while Regan would stay with Clay? 2) are they white like Clay? Because at one point, I was under the impression that Anya was black because of Regan’s description but after the bedroom scene and the picture, this assumption turned completely into confusion because I was completely lost then specially when Genevieve description was tilted towards white. 3) why do all of this hoopla of accepting in public when in reality it was not? Like grandpa, I was stumped(very nice suspense there).
The extended epilogue is a cute idea but it’s not anymore when you finished more annoyed than satisfied. Like why didn’t you explain how many children, gender and ages they had after Abe and Regan? How about where is Abe and Regan? We know that Abe lives alone and he is an actor, which we could assume that he is definitely at least 18 which put this at a whopping 7 years now but why do we the readers have to guess and assume? Why couldn’t it be said?
That said, I still absolutely loved this story and am still mad 😡 that I didn’t read this early on. Now I am going to read about Cody and see if it brings it home like this one and the first book. By the way what happened to Genevieve?

Loved it!

I loved the chemistry between Island and Clay! Slowburns can sometimes be a miss for me but the chemistry pouring out of this book between those two hooked me. I had to see what was going to happen next.

The conflict with Taz was the absolute worst. I do not understand why Island couldn't find any backbone with this man. We see her cut Clay often, yet she never cuts into Taz and I think he deserved it with fierceness. Like, I genuinely understand he's her first love and Taz made her feel like she had worth but it felt like she had a totally different personality. And all the stuff with the sister rooting for them to be together seemed so cringe. I hated it. I thought the conflict with the grandmother was much more enjoyable to read. She was a great villain.

This is the first time that I have absolutely disliked the tertiary characters. They seemed obnoxious in this book. That was probably because they were not close to these characters. I could have done without them in this book. The relationship with Island and Clay was much more enjoyable to watch unfold.

Overall, I laughed a lot this book and really enjoyed it.

In truth, I’ve read most of this series, I enjoy the books when I don’t take them too seriously but I really have to wonder why they’re always riddled with stereotypes, microaggressions and weird racial undertones. For this book, between that weird date she went on and comments he made, it was the fact that Island had to do what most of the farmhouse women had to do at least once. Physically verbalize that they’re not some stereotype or whatever. What happened to the showing, not telling. Why…are these women in this interracial book universe having to do this when the readers are probably black women? It always sits weird to me. Why can’t they just BE who they are?

My other issue with this…Island and her hang up with him loving his dead wife like she isn’t still clinging to this very alive asshole “boyfriend” of hers? It doesn’t make any sense. On that topic, that proposal…ugh Taz deserved to be embarrassed.

On from that, Clay taking her on his mission?! Nonsensical. Why was that even included ?

Despite these complaints I liked this book. It was pretty much what I expected. I liked Island, I liked Clay.

I just finished reading Fiery Romance and I have to say it's an absolute five-star read! This slowburn, BWWM romance between the fierce heroine and the flawed alpha hero with kids was truly captivating from start to finish. The story was a perfect blend of enemies-to-lovers and boss/nanny romance, which kept me on the edge of my seat.

Clay Bolton is my favorite type of alpha. The chemistry between him and Island was sizzling, and the tender moments he shared with his two adorable kids melted me. The slow burn aspect of the romance was expertly done and made the payoff even sweeter.

The story was well-paced and kept me engaged throughout. I particularly appreciated the depth of character development in both Clay and the heroine. The kids were also a great addition to the story, adding a layer of complexity to the romance.

Overall, Fiery Romance is a great read that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves enemies-to-lovers, boss/nanny romances with cute kids and sizzling chemistry.

I have so many mixed emotions rn, firstly I didn’t like the book whatsoever, I hated clay in the first 60% of the book the way he treated Abe everything to the way he would act and i absolutely adored island in that first half, then everything went to shit and the roles were reversed I started to dislike island and the clay just suddenly became the worlds horse most romantic man ever, I loved the kids, I truly truly do Abe was the number one reason I finished this book cuz I was really thinking of DNFing it

but to rape up the series I have a few things to say
I truly liked the first half of the series but then shit became the same, there was so much repetition in all the books, I think my favorite book had to be the second one

And secondly I really REALLYYYY want books of the kids when they grow up and there love life’s, personally I want to see dawn and Michael together, niko and Abe together and idk about the rest there’s like 3 different love triangles going on between them, but seriously nia I need those books NOW

Loving Clay and Island

I loved Clay and Island's story. I liked how they met because Island was protecting little Reagan which led her to Clay. Clay was so protective over his kids and so mad at how the nanny treated Reagan that he took it out on Island with drastic measures. Clay trusted Island immediately and his feelings for her were involved as soon as he met her. Island and Reagan's relationship was the cutest and the way Clay treated Island was so loving. Island helped Clay open up to Abe and to talk with Darryl about everything. I'm glad Clay showed Island that she deserved more than waiting around for Taz to realize how special she was. I'm glad that Clay showed Island his love for her before telling her. And I'm glad Island's grandparents were there to help her realized she deserved to be loved, cared for and protected. I'm glad Clay and Island got together and became a family. I really enjoyed their story.

This was such a horrible read, I don't understand the 4 star ratings.
Unnecessary drama, plot and scenes. Over described lots of stuff.
Too slow paced and most of all, too much mention of black skin against white.
(No way I'm a racist, I'm brown too. So dont come at me.)
I understand that the author wanted to write about black people and there is nothing wrong in it but this was way too much! Not a single page goes by without mention black skin or the FL being treated poorly because she's black.
And then some yoga teacher comes and say namaste, even though she's no indian and then shows racist behavior. WTF are you trying to show here?
You said it's not gonna be typical black woman story and representation but you should that. The way her body is being constantly sexualized put me off as well. This was such a stereotyped book to gain favour from black woman.
All the ones out there, much love! Please don't read this. ✨❣️

Island and Clay: A wedding in the works?

This book is wonderful!!!!! Every time I read a new book in this series, I say it’s the best! This book and the characters came to life…as though this were a movie and I was in the front row! I loved Island’s kindness, empathy, love, patience. Clay definitely was all military, barking orders but loving with all his strength, missing his wife and coming to gripes with his love for Island. Then there was Regan. She was so special, lively, open. Abe, quiet, brooding and closed off because of the loss of their mother and Clay’s wife. But Island was able to get through to him. Then there is Genevieve, a nightmare of a mother-in-law, trying to take ONLY Abe from Clay. Is it because he was her daughters natural son and Regan was adopted? I couldn’t really figure her out.

Tasteful Interracial Heartbreaking Comedy?

So this is my first encounter with an interracial couple in a book. (I am in a interracial relationship so not new to that). I did font this book very tasteful in how it represented a strong ethical female lead character without her being overly bitter and prideful. I found the FMC to have the perfect balance of strength, personality and yet still graceful. Overall I loved the story line it hit home in some areas and definitely opened up look at a widower and how they can love again. My only downside to why this didn’t get a full 5 stars is I would have liked a good smexy scene followed through to the end after all the pent up tension throughout the entire book. It’s like they get their relief but where is the readers. Also wasn’t a fan of the reference that you can’t drink and breastfeed as that’s a false statement.

clay is basically andrew tate but in a book version. he cannot go a single chapter without mentioning he was in the military and calling his son “solider” — what is even up with that??? no wonder his son hates him. he so clearly favors regan over abe it’s ridiculous. island is such a people pleaser and didn’t stand up to anyone (other than clay). also the whole situation with taz was so weird like girl you are waiting for someone who wants an open relationship before being married??? and he only came back when he realized there was a chance he could lose you??? ugh it took her until like 75% of the way through the book to break up with him. also clay and island only had sex like once at like the 90% mark and we didn’t even get to read the whole thing lol

only giving two stars because i liked the kids a lot — one star for each kid

Cute story

Cute story but struggled to finish. I usually breeze through these books because I can’t get enough, but the FMC was immature and beyond indecisive at times. Absolutely did not like Taz and was disappointed at The friendship between Rosie and the FMC. Taz was Narcissistic and deserved a throat punch at best. Don’t even get me started on Gen. loved the Culture that was imbedded into the story line and how the FMC helped women she was a warrior there and it loved that. Clay was okay but I really was hoping for some more in depth character development he needed thearpy and he absolutely refused to accept that. Absolutely Cringed with how the death of a spouse and moving on was handled by the FMC and how she felt she was in a competition with the deceased spouse.

better

In my opinion this is the best of the 6 previous books in the series. The storyline was interesting and it didn’t veer too off track and into an unbelievable whelm. The characters were more explored and communicative. We were able to observe the process of them falling in love more so than the previous books. The relationship with the children was sweet and relatable. The problems they dealt with was very interesting and they characters dealt with them in a mostly believable manner. Some of the resolutions were a bit fantastical.
At times the author can be repetitive and overly descriptive. Her writing style is improved but not one of my favorites. Overall the book was interesting and I enjoyed reading it. I give it a 3.5/5

Drama!

Not sure about this storyline, it's intense with drama and intense attraction that simmers.

Clay cannot forget his wife who died in service, he's two kids he adores and hold tightly to them. When COS comes to his door he goes straight to source who reported him. Instant attraction is there but held back as its a new feeling for him. Island didn't like his domineering attitude either so dislike sets in but intrigued she is.

All ends in love not war, the kids love Island more like adore her, but they connect as a new start for them both, especially Clay who is booked and drawn in with protective bridges all drawn up.

The Soldier & The Hair Queen

I love this series and can’t wait for Cody & Clarissa’s story 😉, I can taste it already 🔥
Island has big heart, always trying to help and reached out to people, she is beautiful and successful.
That big heart of hers is what got Clay Bolton in her path when she taught she was helping a little girl… oops!!
Anyhow, I don’t want to spoil it for you, see what happened when the big grumpy, stern soldier marched into her saloon.

BTW, I like the bonus epilogue, however it’s not that enlightening because, they never mentioned how many kids is. “ bus loads “ and what are they or how old they are… etc…

this was fire

Clay and Island lit the pages on fire with their banter and witty comebacks - tit for tat. Island made the most of her situation because Clay had her hands tied. She still gave as good as she got and took control and did somethings her way anyway. Clay the forever soldier was regimented and stuck in his ways. He was used to all people obeying his orders and without any lip. Island was his biggest challenge and ended up being his biggest reward. Clay made Island recognize the woman she was and the treatment she should receive from a man once she got past all of his bullying, controlling and meddling ways she saw the man, the father, and her love.

Great read

Call me toxic, but I love rich overly possessive, slightly stalkerish hero with bad people skills, but a huge heart and that is for sure what Clay gave! I also really enjoyed Island and the fact that she was a boss, who didn't mind changing her hair as frequent as her outfits! While I really enjoyed the story, this had a little too much spice for my liking (level 3.75/5, I prefer <3 = behind closed doors/clean altogether). Normally, I can skip a scene pick up after the fact, but this one had a scene that came out of nowhere at a restaurant, so I was not prepared lol. Overall, great story and writing as always from Nia
