Caleb McCabe just returned from a tour of duty. He's shell-shocked. Loud noises make him jump. He feels like an outcast in civilian society. When Caleb meets a gorgeous, fun-loving redhead named Violet, he knows he can't handle a relationship, especially with a ray of sunshine like her. But that doesn't stop him from thinking about her day and night.
Violet Jameson is studying for a degree in psychology. When she meets the ultra-hot combat hero Caleb, she's riveted not only by his rugged good looks but also by his obvious vulnerabilities. She yearns to get close to him, and to begin to heal him. They share a night of passion that's so hot she realizes she's not only in lust but in love.
For Violet's sake, Caleb tries to stay away. He wants her more than he can bear, but he's afraid of hurting her with his own emotional scars. The problem is, no matter how much he fights his obsession, he can't stop himself. He has to make her his. He knows in his heart she's the one.
Caleb and Violet are meant for each other, but will his dark damages get in the way of their Happily Ever After?
My Hero is a sexy standalone novella starring a battle-scarred alpha hero and the sweet, sassy redhead who changes everything.
Julie Capulet is an Amazon top 20 bestselling author of contemporary romance. She writes steamy he-falls-first romance with heart, heat and fairy tale HEAs. Her stories are inspired by true love and she’s married to her own real life hero. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, traveling, walking on the beach and watching rom-coms. ♥
My Hero is book two in the McCabe Brothers series by Julie Capulet. In the first book, Hopeless Romantic, we met Bo and Millie. Now it’s Bo’s older brother Caleb’s turn and Millie’s best friend, Violet. Caleb was everything I hoped he would be, and more.
Caleb McCabe was injured in the line of duty in Afghanistan. He has just been released from the hospital and is going home. Caleb not only has physical injuries but is also suffering from a trauma you can’t see. He lost his best friends, his brothers in arms. Why were they lost instead of him? The first thing he sees when he enters his home is the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. Looking at her was like looking at the sun. But he can’t. He is filled with pain and darkness. He can’t even bring himself to speak to her.
“Only his eyes told a different story, hinting at a tip of some vast iceberg of emotion that draws me to Caleb McCabe even more than the beefcake drop dead gorgeousness.”
Violet Jameson is a freshman in college. She’s wanted to be a psychoanalyst since she was seven years old and is beyond excited to finally be starting her dream. She had heard Bo speak of his brother but when he walked into Bo’s house, she was spellbound. His eyes told a story of pain. She knows she can help him. If he’ll let her in.
“There’s no way I’m going to dirty her life with my damages.”
Violet and Caleb share a night of passion. Violet gets a glimpse of the man Caleb used to be. Of a man filled with warmth and love. But then he closes it all off and flees.
“Her presence feels like a cool balm against the raging heat of my torment.”
Caleb both wants to protect Violet by running away from her but at the same time feels so drawn to her that she is all he can think about. He doesn’t want his darkness to shadow her light, but at the same time, he wants her light to help to brighten his darkness.
This is such a beautiful story of a man who has given so much of himself that he’s not sure he can find his way back, or that he wants to. He just hadn’t counted on the healing power of love, or the determination of a woman dedicated to saving him. Julie Capulet has once again written characters that grab my heart and don’t let go. Her books are steamy and sweet, and the heroes are over the moon for the women they love. I can’t get enough. Now I’m looking forward to the oldest of the McCabe brothers, Gage. I wonder if there is a woman out there that can tame him?

Julie Capulet is a newer author to me discovered through friend. I'm very happy that I took the chance on her. I'm looking forward to reading more of her work in the future.
Mind you even though Violet Jameson has dreamed of studying for a degree in psychology for as long as she can remember & she want be a licensed psychotherapist by the time she twenty-seven. Doesn’t mean that she not outgoing, fun-loving party girl. But when it comes to the study of psychology, she a total nerd!
Caleb McCabe returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan & he suffering from PTSD. Caleb is listed as one of the best snipers the military had, but that means nothing to Caleb, cuz his skill didn’t safe his three closest friends
As you can imagine all Caleb want to do is crawl into bed & sleep for week! And trust me that’s what he pretty much does Once Caleb emerges from his slumber all he wants do is see that girl with the copper-and-golden-haired & those O so cute freckles,
I’m at a crossroad on this book maybe you can understand my rating on this book
I think this was one was missing something for me, or maybe it was cuz these two went from 0 to 60 in less than 3.2 seconds. all the components where there! Or maybe it was cuz I fell in love with BO & Millie STORY & Caleb & Violet couldn’t there in my eyes…
I just don’t know what tell you! I did not feel a deep connection between the two of them, sorry let me correct myself, just when I had connection with this couple, the story seems to had finish but the sex scenes had their pretty good parts so kudos on that,
Caleb seemed a lost soul before he met Violet! She seemed bound & determined to repair any demons he was fighting, & since the author was able to accomplish this in my eyes in the end I give this book 4 stars
Now let’s talk about that epilogue, it was epic & I believe maybe that could make up for anything that was missing… also remember this is just my opinion… over all this was good read I honestly am curious to see where the author takes us with Gage’s book
Reading order McCabe Brothers Series 1- Hopeless Romantic- Bo & Millie 2- My Hero- Caleb & Violet 3- Arrogant Bastard- Gage & Luna
📚 Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion 💕 💕 Also I wouldn’t discourage anyone from reading it.
➦*I received an ecopy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review of it. 💕 💕 . .**This has not influenced my review.* **
Just returning home from a tour of duty in Afghanistan, Caleb McCabe needs time and space. But what he finds is everything he didn’t know he needed.
Lounging on the back deck of the family home, psychology student Violet Jameson is instantly drawn to the pain radiating from the war hero. No stranger to pain herself, she sets about a course to be the balm to his broken heart.
These McCabe brothers are the perfect combination of everything I love in a book boyfriend: affectionate, possessive, smexy AF and Caleb didn’t disappoint.

📣 Type: My Hero is part of the McCabe Brothers Series, but can be read as a standalone.
🛑 Be Advised: My Goodreads shelves are … explicit in both senses. As such, they could be considered spoiler-y.
To my surprise, My Hero is cheesy sweet. And I need something cheesy right now. I always draw into a broken military hero. Miss Capulet brings Caleb into life. And Violet as the leading lady who is nosy but yet sweet heroine.
The banter is sweet and stiff (on some parts). Everything is rushed. I usually do not like it but Miss Capulet makes it work in My Hero. The smut scenes are hot. There is minimum angst/ drama. The story and the plot is straight forward. There is insta lust between Caleb and Violet when they first met. I never feel liking a story with too much insta lust but My Hero is an exception.
Armchair Psychoanalyzing is REALLY annoying, particularly when it comes from an 18-year old Freshman in College. 😬🙈
A military veteran’s PTSD is a subject matter that was a little too serious to be dealt with in a novella that is basically erotica that revels in the ridiculous.
I was not feeling this coupling. The H just seemed like he latched onto the first scantily clad girl he came across after leaving the military. Their connection seemed more about his lack of a sexual outlet than love. The h was hella annoying. Retelling each scene through the other’s perspective was irritating as well.
I thought his aggression during their first time was hot, but it was basically ruined by his meltdown when it was over. If we had continued along that path, I would have enjoyed it more. 😅
Bottom Line? Meh. The first book was better. ⭐️⭐️1/2 - because I still plan to read the next book. 🤷🏼♀️
⚠️SAFETY SQUAD SPOILERS⚠️
- no cheating or sharing - No OW/OM drama - no dubcon - H is experienced (mid twenties??) - h is an 18-yr old virgin - references to PTSD and battle flashbacks
I read book one of this brothers series awhile ago and now its Caleb turn. This one was okay and i enjoyed their story but i didnt like the writing style to much.....With some steam.
First the neg.. What annoyed me.. we got one chapter of Caleb pov then the next chapter we would get Violets but what happened in the last chapter but from her pov with few more para of something new in the chapters... it was kinda annoying.. i thought maybe if it wasnt like that maybe we could have gotten more of the relationship between the two.. cuz i really liked the couple. I also felt alittle more from the two then the first couple. Idk if i wanna read the playboy brother yet..
Caleb is Bo older brother who was discharged from the army and is dealing with being back.. he has some PTSD and wants to push everyone away. And he sees Vi who sparks something in him he hasnt felt in years. But he is scared he could hurt her. So once they have their night he pushes her away. As for Vi she's feels something for Caleb even if they just met and he hardly talks..she wants more and wants to help him if he lets her.
No ow/om drama, No cheating, slight secondary charas, Sexy times, tiny drama, virgin gal no manwhore

No podía parar de leer, me robó el corazón esta historia
My heroe de Julie Capulet serie McCabe Brothers libro 2
This was a sweet yet serious short book about Caleb and Violet falling in love. Caleb just came home from Afghanistan and suffers from ptsd and Violet studies psychology. A perfect blend. Not just a romance but also a story for Caleb healing and finding himself back. I really did like this and I was surprised that the short book didn't hurt the story. Felt like a whole story anywho
🟥🟥REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS🟥🟥 Check tags for detailed spoilers.
H is the elder brother of the H from 1st book. h is the bestie of h from 1st book. V-card sweetheart. Celibate-H. Alpha H, with PTSD. I'd rather not disclose the plot because it's the usual ...'h helping the H get over his trauma" But i read it because it's REALLLYYYYYYYYYY smutty.
1-2 day separation- he leaves her after they have sex for the first time cause he freaks out but comes back and apologizes and is dedicated after that.
So I just can’t work up enthusiasm for a in depth review. This was just ok. It wasn’t the best JC read. I was annoyed with the h god complex and panting simp attitude. She thinks she knows everything and and curse his PTSD with her naive self. I found her wanting. Ugh she bored me.
There were enough sweet moments.
The H needed real help. He was ok as an H as far as JC hero’s go he was just ok. I don’t like all the flash backs of his trauma since it’s so short but I guess it’s what the whole book was about.
This was a short read and wrapped up quickly without a lot of conflict. The only conflict being that he leaves and fights his feelings cause he doesn’t want to pull her into his damage.
Overall Safe! H is celibate for a while exact time not given maybe a year h is a V He say means things and leaves her after he takes her V 😬 Talks of PTSD
Caleb (24), in my opinion, is far too traumatised and needs professional help. Since all of his experiences are still relatively fresh, I don't think he's in the right frame of mind to get involved with someone else. As for Violet (18), it seems to me that she loves psychoanalysing him the most of the time and is determined to fix him; he almost seems like her pet project, with the way I see it.
I didn't find this insta-love appealing for some reason. Their romance and chemistry didn't seem convincing to me, but that might just be my case.
Anyhow, even if I'm not the right reader for this book, I did find the three epilogues to be very satisfying. Seeing them years later with their larger family was adorable.
#MilitaryRomance #WoundedHero #HealingLove #AlphaHero #InstaLove #NewAdult Caleb is a beautifully broken hero who has experienced trauma in both life and through his service in the military. He if shrouded in darkness as he tries to reenter society after recovering from a war injury. Violet is like sunshine; mostly happy and optimistic despite having her own shadows. They feel an instant connection, even without speaking. I love that from the beginning, Caleb is protective of Violet and recognizes that he is in a place that feels too dark for her. But he underestimates her strength. Violet is young but strong and determined. They fall hard and fast for each other, and I love that. Their physical passion is scorching hot. My heart aches for Caleb as he comes to terms with the amount of healing he needs to achieve after everything he has been through. I love that they tackle healing together and that Violet helps and supports him. At one point he calls her his dream angel and I swooned out of my chair. This author does an amazing job generating a believable instant connection and super steamy physical scenes. They have to work for their HEA, but their instant love is strong, and their future is bright. This book is written in first person from a dual POV.

STORY: I really like this brother. Although Caleb came back from marines and suffers from PTSD, it was good seeing Violet trying and able to break down his wall. For this story, I like the mental and emotional aspect of it. It wasn’t hard core deep, but it was enough for me to enjoy. Violet, was sweet, and I’m glad the author chose her for Caleb. I enjoyed her in book 1. The story still flowed quickly but was good for me.
CHEMISTRY: Violet’s and Caleb’s chemistry was nice.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS We met the third brother, Gage, in this book. Can I just say, jerk when it comes to women. It makes you curious about his story. Because he is the oldest, I definitely thought his story would have been first.
Overall, a nice read. Could be a trigger for anyone who suffers from PTSD.
***I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read and hope this review was helpful.
Synopsis: Violet Jameson aspires to become a licensed psychotherapist after she finishes her studies. It's only been a month since classes started. But when her eyes land on Caleb, something calls out to her to help him. To help him like she hadn't been able to when she was very young and someone was hurting. And she lost that someone.
Caleb McCabe has just returned from Afghanistan with internal and external battle scars. Still recovering from his injuries, he has gruesome memories and terror-inducing nightmares of everything that happened on his deployment. Somewhere along the way, he has lost his zest for life.
Review: We met Violet in Book One of McCabe Brothers Series, who is the extroverted and fun-loving roommate of the protagonist Millie. We also met Caleb, albeit briefly, who is the other protagonist Bo's older brother.
Narrated in the author's usual style, in the first person from Violet and Caleb's perspective alternately, My Hero is a moving tale about dealing with traumas but at the same time it is also about healing, it is also funny and sexy as hell. Violet, who's almost nineteen, has lived a sheltered life under her overprotective older brothers but now wants to enter into a relationship with Caleb even though she's aware of the pitfalls. Caleb is also well aware of his situation but at twenty-four he wants to feel something and Violet is the one who gives him hope. It was a little heartbreaking reading this, to think of how people suffer who go through PTSD.
This is a short and sweet novella which ends with three epilogues giving us a glimpse of their future, the first one is eight weeks later, the next one is five years later, and the one after that four more years later.
UHH YEAH😍😍😍 this second book is very different from the first one because the first one its fun and romantic. This second book is a bit emotional and romantic and have a little sadness with it 😊😊
WE GET TO SEE THE FIRST CHARACTERS and how romantic they are on this second book...

HE LEFT THE HEROINE thinking it was a good idea for both of them. DURING THIS TIME THEY WEREN’T OFFICIAL EITHER THO... DURING THIS SEPARATION it was only for few days and the hero come back searching for the heroine after he clear his head with his other big brother... NO ANY ONE ELSE DURING THIS TIME, NOOO!
- NO CHEATING
- NO DRAMA WITH OM AND OW
- THE HERO IS DEFINITELY A OTT POSSESSIVE alpha male! THERE ARE two jealous scene from the hero and only that ~
- HOT SMUT SCENES
- THE HEROINE IS A VIRGIN
- HAPPY ENDING and they have 3 kids! Cute epilogue ❤️❤️❤️
- SAFE QUICK LOVE STORY
- THE HERO push the heroine away once and never do it again after they officially together. The heroine never push the hero away...
My Hero is Caleb's story in the McCabe Brothers saga. Caleb is a war veteran that has come home to recover, recharge and lay low. He feels broken and defeated but hopefully returning to his roots will facilitate healing . Violet has been hanging out with her new roomie Millie who has just found love with Bo McCabe it was a whirlwind romance and they kind of already moved in together! Violet knows the back story of the McCabe brothers but until today she had never met Caleb. Violet is working on becoming a psychologist but she never dreamed she be using her expertise on the handsome brooding man she finds standing before her. He is overwhelming, strong, silent and complicated everything she never thought she wanted ...till now! The moment that their eyes meet their is a unspoken language being shared between them. The immediate chemistry is undeniable . When the fire between them becomes too much will Caleb retreat to safe Violet and himself or can she be the answers he didn't know he needed ! LOVED their instalove connection ! ~~Michele McMullen ~~
This 2nd book in the McCabe Bros Series is about Caleb McCabe, Bo's brother. We read Bo and Millie's romance in the 1st McCabeb Bros Series, Hopeless Romantic. Caleb is a soldier who has just come home after being wounded. He sees Violet Jameson, roommate to his brother's girlfriend Millie, on the day he arrives home. Violet is wildly attracted to him! She is studying psychology in school and feels an overwhelming need to help him with his PTSD due to a tragic event in her past.
The insta-love that Julie is so well versed at writing is exactly what was called for in this book! I loved the interactions between these two! Their intense conversation and steamy sexy times were off the chain! The two find their happily ever after and we are treated to not 1, not 2, but 3, YES, 3 EPILOGUES! I LOVE EPILOGUES!
This story was good but the first one was better. I didn't see much of a connection between the main couple. It seemed more like he was sexually attracted to the first woman he saw in a bikini.
My Hero by Julie Capulet is the second book in the McCabe brothers trilogy of novellas. I reviewed an ARC of My Hero in exchange for an honest review.
Now, while I loved Hopeless Romantic, Bo’s story (be sure to read my review) – I LOVED Caleb’s story. Like, insert all the capital letters here. All of them. Once again, we have a love and lust at first site between the two characters. But I felt like Caleb and Violet had more intense obstacles to overcome, mainly Caleb’s PTSD. A returning soldier, Caleb is suffering intense guilt and trauma over surviving, whereas several of his fellow soldiers, including his best friend, did not. He suffers from nightmares and depression and worries that he’ll hurt Violet without meaning to. I loved the attention paid to this serious problem in this story. I feel as though PTSD is often ignored, even today – when there is not as much of a stigma with mental illness. We need to pay more attention and get victims of PTSD the help they need.
I found Caleb to be such a sincere and meaningful character. Sure, he’s a swoon-worthy hunk, there’s no denying that. But there is so much more to him than that. Capulet creates a deep and intense character in just a short time. I also liked that we got to meet the third McCabe brother, Gage, which sets us up for his story, which is coming next. I think the only thing I can say is, I’m sorry there are only three McCabe brothers. If there were more…we’d get more stories.
I really recommend this story, and the series on a whole. Instead of 5 stars, I’m giving it 5 hearts. Yup. I went there.
I read Hopeless Romantic and I loved the ott possessiveness. This one, not as much.
Violet is a psych major, nerding out on psychology. She’s Millie’s (from Hopeless Romantic) roommate and bff. While she’s hanging out with Millie at Bo’s house, she very briefly meets Bo’s brother, Caleb.
Caleb is fresh back from the war in Afghanistan, fucking traumatized, dealing with ptsd from his friends deaths and his time at war. Violet sees the hurt in Caleb’s eyes, his beautiful face, and his but body, and is instantly obsessed. She wants nothing more than to help Caleb with his problems so he can live the life he deserves.
After a hot and heavy one night stand, Caleb loses his shit and takes off, leaving Violet heartbroken. Violet, having a near death experience, and Caleb talking things out with his older brother Gabe, forces Caleb to get his shit together.
Violet helps Caleb heal. Caleb brings the good d.
This was an ok read, about 3.5 stars for me. It dragged in some places, really taking the time to get to know the characters in the beginning. It was about 100 pages in before our hero and heroine spend any quality time together. Up until then, it’s mostly internal dialogue. The good thing though is that once Caleb gets his shit together he’s pretty quick at healing, which was nice with the slow beginning.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
LOVED THIS!!! Another insta-lust/love win from Julie Capulet!
The ability of this author to create that connection, that chemistry, that pull between the h/H just amazes me. It’s immediate and it’s powerful.
We met Violet in book one (Hopeless Romantic). The end of that book was the perfect set-up for this book. I could not wait to see how these two worked out.
Caleb...such a beautiful, tortured soul. I couldn’t love him any more if I tried. So broken, so vulnerable...full of so much love to give.
And Violet is the target of that love. He’s drawn to her. He can’t get enough of her. So big and strong and protective and alpha...yet so caring and loving, treating her like she’s the most precious thing ever. She is the calm to his chaos. She’s his reason to want to do better, to BE better.
I love all the feels this book gave me. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. It was quick, it was satisfying, it was perfect.
If you’ve read and loved the first book, you’ll definitely want to read this one.
This is the second book that I have read from this author and I loved this story. We get to meet Caleb, Bo’s brother from Hopeless Romantic and Violet, Millie’s friend. Caleb is suffering from PTSD and Violet wants to help him since that is what she is studying in college. The chemistry and attraction between them was instant and intense. Loved every minute of this story. Great storyline and great characters. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
In book two of the McCabe brothers we have Millie's friend Violet and Bo's older brother Caleb. I don't want to give much away, but this was a sweet romance with all the feels. Caleb was an amazing hero, he was an injured hero who fought in Afghanistan. He lost people he called friends and is getting used to being back in the real world. When Caleb and Violet meet sparks fly.
Great continuation of the series. I really liked this couple.
Caleb and Violet, what can I say but that it’s more of the quick fast paced hook up. It may be quick but the story about these two are both similar. They both have demons and felt pains, and although Caleb’s is from being in the army he suffers from PTSD and Violet suffers from losing her brother to suicide at a young age, and it’s why they clicked but more Violet that Caleb. It did take him overnight to get over his hang up and realise Violet is the one for him (all I have to say is that man Insta-love is quick and no mucking around.) Oh and don’t get me started on the hot and heavy +en inches and the รєメ vibes. But what I do love about it are the epilogues, it’s where you get to see them both grow.
Loved these characters. Caleb is one of the McCabe brothers. He’s back from Afghanistan and comes home to find a gorgeous girl at the pool with his brother’s girlfriend. He’s taken with her even though he knows he’s not the same man he was before the war. Violet can sense Caleb is struggling. She hopes she can help him just like she hopes she can help many others once she’s a psychologist. This is the second book in the McCabe Brothers series. I love the characters and can’t wait for the next one.
★★★. I loved the mental health representation surrounding PTSD and how the author handled this!
Violet gave loser by taking him back and not even making him grovel. I’m more interested in the next book because reformed playboy is always a hit…sometimes
