Fantastic devotional! Crossway also published an ESV Bible with Nielson’s devotionals scattered throughout. Love it!

For this review of God’s Great Story – A Daily Devotional for Teens by Jon Nielson, you will get my daughter and my thoughts of the devotion, as it is geared towards 15-21 year olds.

Before passing this onto my daughter, I read through the description and the first few weeks of devotions, and I am highly impressed. As many devotional books put out these days end up being light on Scripture and watered down. First, the author Jon, who put this together, does an excellent job of how to use the book and how to study the Bible. He encourages, or maybe I should say begs the reader to make sure to read the Bible passages that go through that days written devotion, which summarizes what the passage says and then follows it up with action for the reader to apply it. I am glad he does because it is more important to read the Bible passage than the devotion, so you can hear God speak to you through His Word.

My daughter had this to say from what she has read so far: “Jon gives a good introduction and description about the Bible passage you are reading about. This book goes through most of the Bible from Genesis to Revelations. He gives a Bible passage to read from your Bible, followed up with a summary and some questions to ask yourself of what it is about, what to pray, or be thankful for. God’s Great Story is a yearly devotion, so one page a day for a year. Jon did a great job with this devotion. I give it 5 stars out of 5!!”
