Possessed by the Dark King

Rate this book
He thinks I'm his gift, but I'll be his end.

I told my friends that I'd kill the Dark King, but it was a lie. After surviving twenty years of torture, the last thing I want is to bring more violence into the world.

Despite my best efforts at remaining hidden from him, the king finds me and drags me back to his castle.

I expected him to torture me, but instead he makes me sleep in his cushy bed, feeds me delicious food, and slips into my mind in an attempt to understand me.

But... I'm dying.

Given the mate bond between us, if I go, he will too. And when the Dark King realizes that our lives are at risk, he's willing to do anything and everything to keep us alive.

Even if it costs him his throne.

Definitely my favorite out of the series. I really liked how positive Vena was especially because she was about to die. I really didn’t think I would like Laith with how he was described in the first two books but I loved him. He was so caring and protective over Vena. I think that Laith calling her My Lemay was so cute. I really thought Vena was going to die and I’m so happy that she is alive and has her power back.

"My Lemay. My moon. The light to my darkness... My everything."

I love a good fated mates romance! This one was sweet but oh so confusing because I didn't read the first two in the series. It's not mentioned that you have to read those, but I would. I was so confused for the majority of the story.

Vena has had a rough life- being held in captivity and abused for years. She finally escapes and wants to die in peace. Laith, her fated mate who is also the Dark King, puts a stop to that. He's possessive and controlling but oh so kind to her. The rituals in this book are really sweet also.

SAFETY:
Age: unknown
Cheating: None!
OM/OW drama: None!
Sex scene with OM/OW: None!
Separation: None!
Virgin/celibate/manwhore: Celibate hero, heroine has never willingly had sex before.
Condoms: None!
Triggers: mentions of captivity, sexual abuse, and child abuse off page
Kinks: dirty talk, rough sex
Tropes: fated mates, enemies to lovers, sick heroine
HEA?: Yes! With an epilogue.

This is part of the Night’s Curse series each book can be read as a standalone but connects through three friends that find the ones that can make them whole again. Vena is sweet hasn’t lived a life of happiness two decades of being a prisoner, abused in every way only to gain her freedom well technically escaped the prison with her three cell mates with a vow to find the kings who passed their magic to them thus thrusting them into the situation they fine themselves escaping. Vena is finally free but she has no desire to kill the king who passed her his magic all she wants is peace to live the rest of her days in peace because she is dying due to not having ever gone home to receive her magic completely so it is only a matter of time. Laith sexy as all get out feared Dark King who has lived a lonely life with rumors proceeding him about how horrible he is as a king killing everything/everyone in his path so when he shows up at an Inn where his mate is working which upsets him not because it is beneath her but because she is above that as his queen taking her back to the castle with him thinking how sickly she looks barely eating yet to him she is beautiful he will see what is making her sick and will take her where she can heal. The time they spent with each learning each realizing they are perfect for one another she learns all the things blamed on him aren’t true and he lived an abusive childhood being born to the worst two parents ever but are they enough to heal each other, will his brothers help him to ensure she gets where she needs to be to heal he will give all that he has, will they find the peace both their souls need so badly, and somewhere along the adventure love, happiness?.

I loved it!

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This series has three books. This new-adult romantic fantasy is recommended for ages 17+ due to language and sexual content. Each book in this series is steamy connected standalones and follows a different couple with their own happily ever after, and the stories can be read in any order (but recommended to read them in order for best understanding) for they each end with a lead-in to the next couple's book. This is the third and final standalone book in the Night’s Curse series. This a story about a woman named Venatrix (Vena) and a man named Laith, who is the Dark King. He thinks she’s his gift, but she’ll be his end. She told her friends that she’d kill the Dark King, but it was a lie. After surviving twenty years of torture, the last thing she wanted is to bring more violence into the world. Despite her best efforts at remaining hidden from him, the king finds her and drags her back to his castle. She expected him to torture her, but instead he makes her sleep in his cushy bed, feeds her delicious food, and slips into her mind in an attempt to understand her. Sadly, she’s dying and given the mate bond between them, if she goes, he will too, and when the Dark King realizes that their lives are at risk, he's willing to do anything and everything to keep them alive, even if it costs him his throne. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I can’t wait to read the stories in her next a eries (Kings of Disaster). I highly recommend to everyone.

Best female leads is years!

I finished the series in 3 days and it's was fantastic. So the writing is quick and fast paced, but it only made me enjoy it more. The world building was simple and allowed me to create what wasn't spelled in my imagination. Anyone who doesn't enjoy the strong no BS females in this series need admit they don't like strong female leads. There isn't that typical, she's strong but really weak and unable to maintain her own mind crap. These women went through hell and came out the other end grabbing life and their men by the balls. I absolutely loved it. When your a fated mate, your fated, who would fight that for any reason than saving one and other. This is my 20 something book series this year and I have to admit, it made me laugh, cry and feel a true warmth at the core baring way the couples interacted. Just wow. Sometimes I want to get swept up in a huge series that wastes a while chapter in describing a forest, but sometimes I want to build it in my mind and this author gives you just enough detail to allow you to build the world and feel what matters. If you want strong females that never break (ok a little in book 1 only) this is the series for you. The sex is HOT 🔥 but binding. These books also take a "No victims here" approach to female torture. I haven't enjoyed the way women are written in the genre as much as I enjoyed this. Read it, if you can stomach the women being the hero!

I absolutely adored these two. They are one of my favourite couples.
Vena's life has thus far been harsh, difficult and painful. Aside from the friendship of her sisters, the only light in her life, a sisterhood founded through shared torture and pain. She is finally free from the cell and those who hurt them but she knows that her magic and life is waining. Her sisters are out for revenge but what she wants above all things now is peace. What is likelihood of that when the Dark King has found out she is his fated mate? Laith is not what he seems nor what he has been protrayed to be. Yes, he has done things which have marked him out as nothing more than horror-filled darkness personified, however no one seems to have even wanted to look deeper as to why that might be. He was always pitted against his two brothers but they at least had each other. The lure of a fated mate, one meant just for him, who represented an end to an eternal existence alone and exiled. A magic of a different kind, what kind of spell could that weave even over a dark heart?

Vena, the third girl who had been given the Dark King’s power and fated mate to King Laith, the middle brother, knew she was dying soon because she was an elemental Fae and she had been taken from her lands at an early age for Laith’s extra powers to go into. She made soup and pies at an Inn. Laith finds her and she doesn’t want to waste the rest of her life running from him so she goes with him. I was shocked as I read on after reading the other two books. There is a huge surprise. I loved it. Yes we got to see stuff at the end of book 2. But the whys and such were awesome and I was sitting there reading and kept saying to myself elemental Fae. That is another surprise. Laith is actually funny as … lol. The end was beautiful. This book evoked so many emotions. It was a wonderful ending for the series. I want more books, in the Fae lands.

Vena is content working in an Inn. She has no wish to go after the Dark King. She knows she is dying and has accepted it. Her plan is going well until he turns up at the inn one day and her future changes as his fated mate. But she is still dying and he will have to give up his dark magic to take her to the land of elementals so she can get the power she needs to live. Laith is not as she expected and both have to overcome their pasts while moving forward and navigating to their hoped for future. This is a beautiful story and is my favourite of the three. It sends you on an emotional rollercoaster and leaves you hoping that Vena can be saved by Laith. Thank you Lola for giving us this book, it is a fitting and beautiful end to the series.

I always look forward to hearing more of the Fae's world from Lola Glass, and Possessed by the Dark King was a welcome gift. It started out fast, this one did not make you wait. Between the backstory lending a sense of urgency to the character's situation and the fast flame, I was definitely sticking around to see what happened next. There were a couple points where I had questions, but nothing unforgivable or that detracted terribly from the story. The tie in with the Kings of Destruction was a nice touch, and I think many people could take a lesson from the main character's outlook. She does not yield to the criticism of others, she keeps doing what she LOVES for those who love it. She does not take anything for granted, and enjoys everything to the fullest. Honestly there is a lot to be admired there. I am so glad this book got to see the light of day and I look forward to more tales from their magical land.

This series hasn’t been my fave of Glass so I’m not surprised I didn’t like this one.

The fae heroine is dying and her hero has been lying about being horrible and evil.

It just didn’t … have any wow for me. I didn’t really care that she was dying— she didn’t so why should I? And there was no sparks for me between them. They got together, both accepted it, no drama, no … anything. In this case the ‘fated’ bond thing just makes it all so … unexciting. He gives his power to the brothers and she gets healed. … so where is the story here? It was just … so flat. I’m going back to real early Lola Glass.

I was so glad to see this last book of the trilogy published. I have been wondering if it was ever going to show up, and after having read it I am very happy that it was released!! This book was definitely not what I was expecting as the other two books kept alluding to an evil third brother. I was more than happy to find out that he was only projecting the image of being evil, and that once he met Vena he was all in to save her life. This of course made it easy to like Laith and understand why he did the things he did to survive!! Great job.

An amazing and fitting end!

Wow l!! Even though this book isn’t very big a lot happens in the short space of time. I’m so glad this book got released - I feel it was definitely the ending needed for the series!! A lot of questions got answered and the family got to heal!! I love Vena and Laith. I really do feel that Laith was massively misunderstood. It would of been nice to see the family healing in a bit more detail than just one little chapter at the end however this book was still really good and I understand how hard it was to write and how it very nearly never got released. Overall an amazing series!

I loved this book and am so glad Lola has written Vena and Laith's story. Their's is completely different to the other two in this series; she's not looking for revenge but just wants to live her life; he's completely different to what everyone thinks and they work so well together.

A brilliant end to a beautifully written series, with a glimpse (or two) at the next (the Kings of Disaster). I loved the slight crossover.

Thank you Lola for writing this one. I would definitely recommend it.

I somehow missed book two of this series so I will have to go back and find that. But I absolutely loved the first book so was happy to read this one. Unfortunately, while it was still good, it was not at the same level. It felt a little rushed and less developed. I felt we didn’t really get to know the characters and there was not much adversity for them. I would have liked to have delved deeper into the psyche of the king. But once again, Glass’ imagination and plot lines are superb.

Now I usually love Lola Glass, but I think this is one of my least favorite series of hers. The first book was entertaining enough, I skipped the second, and this one was just missing too much. There was literally no conversation between Laith and his brothers, their needed to be more drama and confrontation, the sisters didn’t even question what’s her name on if Laith really was as big of an aggressive dick as he made out to be. He never said “I love you” to her. We don’t see any relationship building for the brothers. It was just get incomplete and probably should’ve been a longer book.

best of the series

I really didn’t love the first two books in this series but I decided to read this one anyway because I really do love Lola Glass. I am so glad I did because it was a really great book. Laith and Vena are great characters and it went a whole different direction than the first two books. It was short and the world building was still minimal but overall it was a great story. Read it. :)

Lola Glass is such a great author. I get lost in her books and this was no different. I read this fast and it hit me in different ways. I loved the emotional pull, the gut feelings, and the complexities for these fated mates. Love and near death. The battle and the balance. I burned through this because it flows so well. And after it just feels good 🥰. Thank you for this book Lola Glass!!📖.

Awesome standalone \ finale

Discovered this author with this series and I love her style! She did a great job writing all 3 books in a way they could be read as a stand alone or as a series. All of these badass main female characters are well portrayed in their trauma, how their partners responded to it and what they all need as individuals and their personal path. Can't wait to read more!

Vena's life has been a struggle and now she is dying. Everything was going as she planned until she became Laith's fated mate. She needs to be taken to the land of elementals in order to be saved. Will Laith take her and save her life? Can they move on together?

This is a good story that will draw you in. This is a well written and somewhat entertaining story.

A really good series

I enjoyed this series. The land and characters were really well developed and easy to imagine. The books felt a little short but they kept me reading. That's why I find myself writing a review at 2 am. They were great at keeping my worries at bay while I waited at the dentist and while sitting in the waiting room of the doctor's office. So thank you Ms. Glass for that.

One of the best series

I love these books, the lessons taught are amazing, I don't know if the author intended to have morals throughout the series but I picked up on it, some of them are things aren't always what they seem, taking life at the fullest because you don't know how much time you have, and love conquers all. There might be some triggers for some but the way the author wrote it didn't feel like I was reliving anything traumatic and I wasn't bothered by it.

Finally we get Laith & Vena's story. Had to see how it would all play out especially with what the others all went through. Vena is more calm and definitely sweeter then the other 2 girls and the story made me smile and laugh. Had to see what happened once these two met and the trials they must face.

Glad author wrote it

After I read the first two books in this series I didn’t think the author would right a third. But I was happily surprised when she did. I loved being able to get more insight into the characters and the ending was very satisfying completion for the series.
The only thing I would change is the amount of curse words. It was a little excessive for me.

Wonderful

I've got to say this is one of the best series I've read so far this year. Thank you for finishing it ☺️. I am happy to know about all of the characters in this book and to be honest I think the dark king is my favorite. I can't wait to read more of anything you have written. Thank you for blessing us with your talents of writing.

Great Author!

I stumbled across Lola's books by chance and I'm sooo glad I did! I started with the Kings of Disaster series and while I impatiently await the other two King's stories, I read the Night's Curse trilogy.

Thank you Lola for your amazing writing and your brilliant mind!

Lola Glass has a romance obsession and I’m totally here for it. This is a fast paced, sweet, romance novel set in the fae lands.
I absolutely adore how the strong kings in these books dote on their females. The epilogue is so sweet!
Truly wish she would write a book about the three girls lives after this.

loved the final book in this series

The first book was my favorite of the 3, but without book 2 or 3, the story wouldn’t be complete (in my own head)- the authors “after thoughts” mentioned she wasnt going to write book 3, i am so glad she did! I loved this series. Wish it had more books to it
