While the writing wasn’t bad, I got so incredibly lost on the world building. I was a giant question mark the entire time, and it distracted me from the book. I think that this novella, allegedly a prequel novella, assumes you’ve read earlier series set in the same world, and assumes you know all these details already. As a new reader…wow, was I ever lost.
1. omegaverse…? no? what?
This is omegaverse? Jason is an omega, but I don’t recall any alphas or betas being mentioned. It wasn’t in the blurb, it just got dropped in randomly that he was an omega. Nothing really came of it.
2. The whole shifter thing
This created so many questions for me.
Is everyone a shifter in this world? It seems like it. Unless you’re a demon maybe. But then why does that one dude have a thing for “shifter rights”? Shifters seem to be the only thing around, and also doing just fine.
The ‘beast’ part of the shifter is a separate consciousness apparently, they can have conversations. …idk this just popped up and I was confused.
Shifters are very long lived apparently? And of course hellhound and associated mate are immortal.
We don’t find out until halfway that Jason is a cat shifter, which was inexplicably irritating to me. Why wait so long?
3. The sheer idiocy of the two of them
A big chunk of the book is predicated on them being total dipshits and not talking to each other, instead sulking childishly and for their pride, essentially. Both of them are brats to each other, and it was at a level where I was wondering if everyone involved was in fact 4 years old and in need of nap time.
4. Random things just kinda thrown at me
Reincarnation? Fated mates transcend death?? Semi-dead visit by dead mother spirit???
5. Strange anti-panther conspiracy murder plot

They both started off alright, distinct, and then slowly descended into bland sameness. Pet names (babe, baby, not inspired) came out of nowhere.
Overall, to look on the bright side…there’s no infodumping in this book?

Jason’s ass rose up like a fresh baked loaf, and Raoul was a sucker for a bakery. Climbing over so he was straddling those wonderful buns,
this is commitment to an analogy, i’ll give you that
Raoul was conscious of the little love drops his dick was depositing on his mate’s ass.

There was a bit too much going on in the lore/world-building for me, and I just didn't vibe with the characters or the relationship.

This was just not good in my opinion. First, the writing is dreadful. There were so many basic grammatical errors that I started wondering if the author really spoke English. The storyline is a it all over the place and there is zero world building. Any of the characters that are brought on page appear to be paranormal so it left me wondering if there were any regular humans around. We don’t even find out what Jason’s animal is until late in the story. Jason is also given the label “omega” even though he is the only character to be given that hierarchy label. It was used in such a way as to try and explain his behavior at times.
There was nothing particular about any of the characters that made them endearing to me as the reader. Raoul is a hellhound who has been around for thousands of years, yet he is extremely stiff and awkward like he doesn’t know how to interact with other beings. I found him to be an extremely cold character until the end when he starts behaving more like a lover/mate should. Jason was tolerable but that’s about it. The author relied too much on his family tragedy to difine who he is as a character.

I loved this little story. I have a soft spot of unusual shifters (including hellhounds..long story) and had to read it. I have recently become a fan of this author and really wanted to try it. I have already bought the first book in the new series and am reading it next! Jason has a hard time trusting that Raoul wants him just as he is and feels like he has to prove something. It almost messes up their mating but these two are too perfect for each other to let that happen. I need to go read some backlist though because I want Hades and Ali’s story now! I also can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the hellhound pack.

I really enjoyed reading this book. But I really enjoy reading books from this author. Jason is struggling to make ends meet. He and his sister have worked hard to be there for each other. His sister has met her mate and Jason has to take care of himself. Jason sings part time and one song calls to his mate, Raoul who is a hellhound. One would think that would be the end, but no. Jason proves to be stubborn and proud. But there are also other forces that ware working to keep them from being together.

I enjoyed this novella. I am pretty sure this author is new to me but I will be checking out her other books nevertheless. I was a little miffed about Jason and Raoul not communicating with each other at first and they were having issues in their relationship. Like just talk to each other! I didn't mind the insta-love since they were fated mates. Fated mates don't make sense if you don't feel anything for your mate.

MM paranormal romance. This is a prequel to this author's "Better than sweets." In that book, this book is mentioned as a free download. This is no longer the case, so I bought it for the sake of completeness.
A cat shifter and singer named Jason encounters a hell hound called Raoul. The latter comes off to him as pushy, but Jason stands up to him. There are cartoonish villains as well.
I found some of the writing to be sloppy, and I did not enjoy this book as much as the following one in the series.

The prequel to The Hellhound Collar series.
Raoul is a Hellhound and owner of a posh club. And when shifter singer Jason joins his sisters mates band on stage Raoul is the first Hellhound ever to find a fated mate.
A good shorter story that made me interested in the coming series and plus points for having Hades and consort Ali in the book.

I haven't read much from this author but after this novella I'm certainly tempted to pick up the series.
Collar and Scruff is a prequel and as such has a fair amount of world building and introduces some future characters.
I do hope that Jason and Raoul feature throughout the series because I really liked them together.

Freebie.
It was okay, sweet short reading. Not that much in depth description of the characters.
It wasn’t as well written as it might have been. It was like it was intended to be a slowly revealing thing what shifter the characters was, but I don’t think it worked as well as intended - at least not for me.

Cat & Dog Romance
Ok so it was actually a Hellhound and a Panther romance but that still a mix of canine and feline shifters. Needless to say with that, the age gap, upbringing and rich shifter, poor shifter differences it took this pair of fated mates a little time to work things out. It certainly made for an excellent story.

I know this is prequel and I just bought it coz I want to read the whole Hellhounds series and I'm tempted to buy some of the God's series even the mpreg thingy but... This one was kind of mid, not real deep of erotica and yearning... Just something... Hope the series will be better... Was not bad but not great either

Raoul’s personality was hard to pin down. At first he was demanding and ruthless to his staff, a big bad hellhound, but then he becomes this needy, pouting hangdog. I liked it well enough but I’m not sure enough to continue with the series when it comes out.

Never thought a hellhound will be a main character because I always thought hellhound was a villain in every paranormal book. LOL.

Always a good read.
