Holly said nothing. She just held the paper up for Tracy to see. Across the front page was the headline: WILLOW DALE WITCH BREWS MAGIC POTION.
Is the local recluse a witch? Holly writes an innocent article about her, and now everyone is up in arms.
A simple case of overreaction - or does someone have a more sinister motive? Holly, Belinda and Tracy - The Mystery Club - must uncover the truth - before an 'accident' becomes murder...
This was the first 'The mystery club' book I have ever read, and I was really captured in this mysterious plot. I took this book with me to read in the underground, and have finished it before I got home. This is a great book for everyone out there who wants a short and fast paced read during traveling.
Yksi ehdottomista suosikeistani sarjassa. Pidän paljjon Laviniasta ja soisin lukevani hänestä enemmänkin. Harmi, ettei hän esiinny myöhemmissä kirjoissa.
Sadly, this is the last book in The Mystery Club series. I first read them in the late 1990s and have now re-read them all again. I can't rave enough about this British paperback mystery series.
In this one, the Mystery Club, consisting of Holly, Tracy, and Belinda, meet an interesting old woman when Holly goes to interview her for a school newspaper article about previous students at their Willow Dale school. The article ends up in the town's newspaper, and when it's changed around to suggest that the old lady, Lavinia, is a witch, the Mystery Club finds themselves in more than one mystery. People are attacking Lavinia, who has an interesting past. Meanwhile, Belinda inherits a box of things from a great aunt whose diary has interesting stories about ne'er do well ancestors. Belinda's wealthy father doesn't believe it and he hires a shady genealogist who will go to any lengths to earn money.
This series contains some really unique mysteries. I've given most of them 5 stars. I just thought that the solution to this one finished too quickly after a long build-up. I also guessed the surprise at the end. Also, why did Lavinia change her last name? No answer is given for this.
But I'm going to really miss this series, and I wish there were more.
This was the FIRST ever Mystery Club book I read!!! That was coz of the gripping cover! Then there was no stopping, read each & every one of the Mystery Club books! They were an integral part of my pre-teen reading list :) :) I can still read these with the same interest & enthusiasm! :D :D
