Piper Holt’s only after one a man who’s only after one thing. Previous lovers demanded either subservience or her heart, neither of which are up for negotiation, so Leo Carson's attitude makes him her ideal match. Handsome, shameless and equally impulsive, he appears to want nothing more than a white-hot overnight liaison.
'Overnight' somehow develops into the entire weekend but come Monday morning, pride keeps her back turned and Piper walks away. Denying her own feelings doesn't mean that Leo has none though, and if she's going to atone for hurting him she'll have to admit the 'one thing' she now wants is the man she's in danger of losing forever.
“I know what you want…I know you want my mouth on you…when I finally do give you what you want, I bet you’ll explode.” When a man delivers a line like that, how can you not be completely riveted and ready for action?!?!
Long Time Coming is written in first person, but don’t let that sway you. I think the fact that we are told the story in Piper Holt’s words is really what shows us her true character. Piper is a fun, strong, independent woman with her share of insecurity and vulnerability when it comes to relationships. Piper avoids intimacy for the natural reason - she does not want to get hurt emotionally. This doesn’t make her wimpy or weak. She has a very solid personally, yet not overbearing or annoying. She is a multi-faceted character and I immediately connected with her.
Piper recently broke up with her latest looser of a boyfriend and she turns to a long time friend for company at the bar and in the bedroom. Now although Piper is not looking for love, she’s not a one night stand kind of girl either. She has a connection with her friend, Gray, and wants to pursue it to the bedroom but when he cries out he loves her after a mind blowing orgasm during their first romp, Piper realizes that it’s not going to work. Shortly after, we are introduced to hunky, dirty-talking Irishman, Leo Carson. Leo’s self assured charisma bleeds off the page from his introduction to Piper to when they eventually make it to the bedroom.
“Leo stroked my hair, stopping every so often to draw me closer for a kiss. No tongues. There was something strangely erotic about simple kisses on the lips from a man who’d just made me come with that mouth. From intensity to delicacy. So forceful and yet so gentle.”
After they retreat to her place for a night of passion, the night turns into an entire weekend of mind blowing sex. I’m talking intense, raw, profound, sweaty, sizzling off the chain sex!
“Look, darlin’, I can’t stand it. I can’t let you ride me. Not now.” His finger played over my nipple then over the rest of my breast. “See, what I want more than anything right at this minute…” His hand snaked up my chest, around my neck, to my hair. “I want to see you under me because…” His voice dropped to a husky murmur. “Because even though your breasts are fucking glorious and even though the sight of you arching your back above me makes me want to ram my cock into you even deeper, there is nothing-nothing-in this world I would rather see right now than you, underneath me, taking however much of my cock I see fit to fuck you with.” I gulped. Started to shake. “…Begging for one more inch…” I whimpered. “Straining up to meet me at every stroke, until you’re so close to coming that you pull me in even deeper and tell me how much you want me to fuck you.”
When the weekend ends, Piper is faced with unwanted and confusing feelings toward a man that truly gets her in every sense, emotionally and physically. But for a woman who is advertently afraid of loss, what’s a girl to do?
It’s a true accomplishment of an author when the reader feels gratifyingly exhausted after finishing a book. The intensity of Ms. Parrish’s writing left me at times feeling like I couldn’t breathe. Never the less, I was completely sated, yet still not wanting their journey to end. This is a profound story of emotional and physical connection between a couple and ultimately the courage to trust it. The story was not rushed, had no deluded admissions of love, and was one of the most realistically portrayed couples I have come across in a short story to date. I can only hope that Ms. Parrish will grant us a sequel or epilogue to this amazing couple to see their progression and how they find love with each other in the end.
Favorite Quote:
His switch from blatant flirting to mundane matters sent a fizz of excitement through me. He was so comfortable with discussing what he found sexy that it peppered his conversation... “Hi; my name's Leo and I like to fuck. Lovely weather we're having today, isn't it? Can I offer you a cup of tea? May I eat you?"
Long Time Coming was released last May, and if I had known about the book last year, it would have been in my top 10 of 2010. Long Time Coming is so full of win and a book I’m giving my call to action for readers to buy. The book is well worth the price, and one you’ll adore reading as much as I did.
When a hero such as the snarky, tell it like it is Irishman, Leo Carson, almost puts another to die for Irishman hero known as Roarke from JD Robb’s In Death series to shame, you know an author has created something special. Long Time Coming not only excels with the storytelling and an amazing hero, who had me begging for more, but has unique and emotional love scenes with a touch of erotic kink. Leo is the reason to get your hands on Long Time Coming. He puts the swoon in swoon worthy.
Long Time Coming is told from the first person POV of Piper Holt. Piper is bored with her recent boyfriend, Andrew, and after a less than mediocre romp in her bedroom, she throws him out. Andrew has no clue that Piper was so unhappy, or rather, he didn’t care to notice. There are some instances alluded to where Andrew has a temper and Piper was on the end of a few of his tirades. Piper doesn’t want to be tied down to one man. She wants to have fun, mainly some flings or one night stands since she’s so young (only 24 years old). She doesn’t want to be managed and wants to live life on her own terms.
After a false start where she brings her brother’s friend home for a night of fun, which ends with him admitting his love to her, Piper is back at square one. She just wants to have a no holds bars sex with a man who doesn’t want anything else in return. One night while trolling at a bar, she meets Leo. They hit it off and make plans to meet up elsewhere. One things leads to another and Piper invites Leo back to her place. Not only does he have her up against her door, but in her bedroom for hours. Leo gives Piper too man too count orgasms. Leo is raunchy, snarky and unbelievable dirty. He tells Piper in graphic detail what he wants to do to her. Piper is a puddle of lusty mush when it comes to him. After their night together, Piper doesn’t want it to end. Leo invites her to spend the weekend at his place, where they’ll have a ton more lusty relations between them.
Leo is a dream come true to Piper, but one who makes her very confused. Piper loves how Leo treats her, as well as pushes all her buttons. She can’t get him off her mind and this upsets her because even though she doesn’t want to admit it, she has fallen for the Irish stud with the body tattoos that makes her drool. While she’s all for giving Leo her body and finding her pleasure with him, she tries her best to shut down her emotions where’s he concerned. But Leo won’t allow Piper to do that. He wants to be her knight in shining armor, especially when it comes to her ex-Andrew, who wants revenge for Piper rejecting him. Leo is more than willing to come to Piper’s rescue, but that means she’ll have to open her heart to him. And that’s something she is unwilling to do and because she’s emotionally stunted that way.
Scarlett has created something special with Leo, the sex god lion. I adore Leo with everything I have inside me. This is a man who’s cocky, but in a loveable and sexy type of way. The moment Leo appears, you’ll be star struck by him. Piper takes some time to warm up to. When we’re first introduced to her, she comes across as immature and a bit cruel. I chock it up to her age and how she feels adrift in her life, especially with love. She’s a girl who just wants to have fun and can’t accept it when man to comes into her life and takes control of the relationship. Leo does that in his own way without backing Piper into a corner. What’s so special about Leo is although he comes across as a bad boy, he’s not at all. He may be in charge in the bedroom, but deep down he’s a big old pussy cat, a gentleman who treats Piper like a princess. Leo has money and a flashy lifestyle that worries Piper because she has the complete opposite. But Leo doesn’t rub that in her face. He enjoys being with Piper because of who she is. He wants to take care of her because he has that instinctual need in him. Leo has cavemen like tendencies and makes no excuse for them.
If you’re looking for excellent raunchy and smuttastic sex scenes, look no further! Long Time Coming has them and more. Leo is a giver and I’m surprised Piper could still walk after Leo got through with her. There’s one scene where all Leo has to do is rub Piper’s lower back while they’re having sex and she falls apart. She also gets off on Leo’s very blunt way of speaking. Leo doesn’t have a filter and the things that come out of his mouth will have you hysterical.
Here’s a small taste of some Leoisms:
“Piper: “I’m just trying to examine you for signs of body art." Leo in return: "If I said I had a tattoo on my cock, how closely would you examine that?"
And when Leo talks to Andrew on the phone:
“Unfortunately Piper is unable to come to the phone right now... Um, well you see...she has her mouth full." Leo’s gaze never wavered from mine as he added, "Of my nuts.”
Leo is a very chatty fellow and I can’t remember the last time I’ve read a book where the main couple talk so much to one another during sex. It was refreshing and cute.
The ending is a bit abrupt for my tastes. I wanted one last love scene between Piper and Leo before things ended because these two connected so well together with not only their bodies but their minds.
I just can’t get enough of Leo and how he romances the stubborn Piper. Scarlett has written the best type of hero you can think of. Long Time Coming is one romance that really should be given high marks for excellence. This is one not to be missed. READ THIS BOOK and fall for the charms of Leo Carson.
Long Time Coming By Scarlett Parrish M/F Contemporary Erotica
Piper Holt has just broken up with her boyfriend, (who is an asshole, by-the-way). So now with her sense of freedom, she’s decided to have some fun, starting with her brothers’ friend Gray. Piper and Gray met previously at a party her brother was having a while back, and have been harboring an attraction for each other since. They finally hook up, and all seemed to be going well on their date, which ended up in the sack… exactly where Piper intended to get him. But in the throws of orgasm, Gray drops the “L” bomb, sending Piper “running for the hills”, if you will. Piper is not looking for love, she’s looking for one thing, and wants a man that’s out for one thing.
While Piper is out clubbing, and pubbing one night, she meets Leo Carson. *swoon* Leo is gorgeous, sexy, brash and has no compunctions about saying or doing exactly what’s on his mind. Piper gives him the digits, and about a week later Leo calls Piper for a date. Well, that date ends up exactly where they both want…. against the door, in the bed, in the kitchen ect. What starts out as a one nighter, ends up being a weekender, and by Monday morning the weight of saying goodbye starts bearing down on Piper. Piper isn’t alone, Leo doesn’t want to let Piper go either, but neither of them say a word, and go their separate ways. After several days, Leo shows up at Piper’s workplace, and turns her world upside down. For everything Leo has been, circumstances prove him to be chivalrous, and protective as well. But it seems the more Piper feels toward Leo, the harder she pushes him away, her fear of rejection driving her actions to the point of being a bitch. Leo walks away, and forces Piper to admit what she desperately doesn’t want to, but she’ll never be the same after Leo. He’s turned her inside out physically and emotionally.
This is the first erotica I’ve read written in the first person POV. The story is told from Piper’s perspective, and Scarlett Parrish has done a phenomenal job with this. I was able to discern Leo, and his actions outside of the bedroom for what they were, and how they were meant. As for the erotic, Leo certainly made my toes curl, and my body parts quiver!! Leo *rawr* is definitely going on my “makes my toes curl” shelf.
A big “THANK YOU” to my friend that recommended this book, you know who you are. You always Rock on the rec’s.
Overall liking 3.5 stars ------ 5 stars for erotica The erotica aspect of this book definitely earns 5 stars. Starting shortly after the first few pages and lasting through the first 50% of the book, there is a lot of sex…Intensively hot, raw, sweaty, mind blowing sex. And this is only the weekend! The date that turned into a thirty-six hour sex bender:)
This book is told from the first person POV of Piper Holt. She is supposed to be a confident, independent woman, strong and one who is not looking for love. She only wants a fun-filled night of great sex. But what we learn is that she is vulnerable and actually scared to commit to a relationship, afraid of being rejected.
Leo Carson is an outspoken, smoking-hot sexy Irishman who curses too much, loves women and his Irish beer. He is very intense, in and out of the bedroom. Add his dirty smut talking skills along with his sexy Irish accent, and the pages drip with this man’s sexuality. He sees Piper and is only too happy to oblige her for a night of fun filled hot sex. Leo is one incredibly smexy man!
And what started out as one night ends up the entire weekend and most of that in the bedroom. Near the end of these amazing two days together, they've gotten to know each other a little and Piper’s defenses go up as she finds herself wanting more than what was originally sought.
This is where the romance begins but the chances of their furthering this relationship is nearly destroyed due to Piper's insecurities. The build up at the end is good but for me this one needed an epilogue. (The ending was good, I just needed more:)
The following remarks touches on a few aspects that hindered my overall enjoyment of this book. For most, these will not be a problem as they are my own personal likes and dislikes. Instead of a vulnerable woman I saw Piper mostly as a player. While toward the end I did feel a smidgeon of her vulnerability, I still could never connect and like her as well as the author intended. Her brother’s words fit my feelings well ….
Another small problem I had was her inability, at times,to complete a sentence. This is a minor thing that didn't happen all the time, but was enough that it became irritating and distracting. Added to that the constant cursing from both the H/h and I found myself wanting to skim. When I say cursing, I’m not referring to smut talk or things said in the heat of passion. There were so many referrals to “Christ, F*ck* ng, Jesus, Christ Jesus, etc, that it became a negative and took away from my overall enjoyment.
There were many things I did like about this book and Leo would be the main one. If you are looking for an erotic read with a scorching hot hero, you will love Leo:)
I first saw this book over at Fiction Vixen’s bloggy and put it on my list. Then my new mommy hormones caused me to forget about it until I saw it again recommended at Smexybooks and I thought dang it, buy it already.
At first you might think the main heroine Piper is kind of a man-eater as it starts out with her dumping her boyfriend and then hoping onto the next guy and breaking his heart. But it all gets better as soon as she meets Mr. Leo Carson, sexy Irishman. Piper is not a girl who wants to give her heart away and all bets are off when she meets Leo and spends one freakin’ hawt weekend with him. This book is so much more than hot sex and weekend trysts. I liked how we glimpsed Piper’s vulnerable side and I’d be lying if I was giddy like a school girl whenever Leo appeared.
He put his other hand on my neck, fingertips grazing the hollow below my ear, thumb at my throat and if he pressed a littler harder, my breath would catch again. ”No.”
I blinked. What the–?
“No, I’m not gonna kiss you.”
“Not yet anyway.” Smiling, he broke contact piece by piece. Thumb. Fingers. Hands. “I might get carried away.”
Everyone needs to read this book purely to experience the charm of Leo. He likes to say F*ck like a lot
I really enjoyed this book! This is my first Scarlett Parrish and I really liked it, I will definitely be reading more! My only complaint, and reason for 4 stars instead of 5, was the abrupt ending - we really needed an epilogue!!
I have to get this off my chest first - WTF??? NO EPILOGUE???
Ok. Now I feel better.
So - I fucking loved this book with every fiber of my being. And I'm pretty sure, ok, so I'm totally positive, that Leo Carson has completely ruined me for actual guys. He's perfect. Not so perfect as to be unrealistic, I mean, his tears don't cure cancer or anything. But if I were to write a list of what I wanted in a guy....after having read this book....I would just need to write "Leo Carson from the book Long Time Coming."
Piper and Leo randomly meet at a bar and exchange numbers. Piper, having just gotten out of a relationship with the #1 Douchbag ever - and THEN having slept with the best friend of her brother who shouted that he was in love with her as he was climaxing - well, let's just say that Piper wasn't exactly looking for Mr. Right. But she was looking for Mr. Right Now. And if Leo called - she would have no problem letting him be Mr. No-Strings-Attached-Hot-Monkey-Sex guy. And Leo called. And they hooked up - and proceeded to have a one night stand that lasted for 36 hours. (FYI - The sex in the book might have just been some of the hottest scenes I have read. Ever. And yea - go look at the stuff I read.....that's saying a lot!)
So, Mr. Leo Perfect Guy says and does all the right things. He treats Piper well - which she obviously isn't used to. And because of her own insecurities and need to not be vulnerable, she almost fucks it up. For most of the book, I wanted to smack Piper Holt repeatedly. I wanted to scream at her to wake up and take what this man is offering you! Stop being a dumb ass. Then started thinking, no one is this dumb. No one is this blind to a man's affections. But you know what....I remembered a situation I was in years ago. I was sorta dating this guy that really liked me.....I let my insecurities kill the it. I did everything in my power to push that man away. I pushed him away before he had the chance to push me away. I was stupid. I was Piper Holt. (Without the 36 hour hot monkey sex session, unfortunately.) After remembering my own personal situation, I stopped wanted to smack Piper - but instead was screaming at her to FIX THIS!! It's not too late, girl!! It was too late for me to fix my stupid, but it's not too late for you!!!
Ok. Well. I didn't mean to get all personal there, but yea, I related to Piper more than I care to admit to. Her inner dialogue was so well written and so real - I wanted to smack her and hug her all at once.
And Leo. sigh There are no words. If this character is based on a real person....I need his phone number. And a passport. And an airline ticket to England. RIGHT NOW. I need to find this man.
I adored Leo. He was fabulous. He was brash and crude and oh so yummy. And the sex scenes were HOT.
Piper, however, falls into the TSTL category. At the beginning she is terrified of her ex (BTW his name was Andrew Kincaid. I had a hard time hating the dude because one of my favorite changelings is named Drew Kindcaid:)) but she keeps letting him into her house. And I could have done without the whole Gary thing. She seemed a bit of a tramp.
What bugged me the most was how the author never had her finish a sentence. "I want..." (cue internal dialogue). "I need you to.... (cue internal dialogue). That got real old.
This book did have some of the best quotes I have ever read though. That Leo.
“Christ, woman, I swear like a trooper and I’ve got a huge cock!”
“Ssh, just listen. Don’t try to be the ball-breaker with me. You won’t win. I’m just saying, there’s nothing sexier for a man than a woman who comes so hard her whole body shakes and he was the one who made it happen.”
OK, the five stars I'm giving this book are mostly because of Leo. *fans self* this man is like sin incarnated, wrapped in a gorgeous package and with the sexiest-attitude-ever to top it all.
I don't know what to think about Piper, our heroine. She mostly pissed me of, which is pretty ironic because I could see myself in many of the stupid things she did and say. She's just looking for a good time, and thinking handsome Leo is just the man for it, ends getting way more than she was expecting.
Leo, as I said, was just my type of hero. Funny, foul mouthed, clever, and realistically flawed, not to mention totally drool worthy. But the thing is, this whole story felt real, like something that could happen to me (are you hearing that, life?), entertaining, frustrating and hot as hell.
So yes, I loved it, and I'll be reading more books by miss Parrish as soon as I have the chance.
This story has been done so many times by many authors. This story just didn't have any of the character development that I need to fall in love with the character's or make them believable. I need more back story to relate to why they are the way they are. I need more then what was given. If I have to force myself to finish a book then it's a waste of my time.
This wasn't a story for me but I may be the only one.
This is not the type of book I usually read, but a friend recommended it and how right he was. I don't say it'll convert me to erotic/romantic fiction, but it's so well-written and the characters are so alive. The story is involving and quite fast-paced. I think anyone who enjoys erotic fiction will love this author.
I like my romances on the steamier side, and this one hits the mark. It's around half naked time, half first person POV of the average woman with a fear of commitment. Very realistic, if you're bendy. Loads of fun.
3.5 stars. The majority of the issues I had with this book stemmed from my dislike of Piper, the h. She came across initially as a confident woman who knew what she wanted and went after it. Not aggressively but with some assertion. I understood, as the book went on, that she was vulnerable and frightened because she feared needing someone and becoming attached/dependent. But what I HATED was all of her partial thoughts, unfinished sentences and her inability to express herself. Her narration was awkward at times and sometimes even boring because I cared nothing for her.
Seriously, I was so freakin' tired of her starting a sentence and then stopping and then starting but still being unable to finish. WTF? I wanted to slap her. It took me completely out of the story. For her being the protagonist, I felt no connection to her and I was slightly annoyed that her character was so inconsistent. First she is self assured and assertive but then she is confronted by some guy, lewdly but not aggressively, and she is a bag of nerves and can't shut him down.
The reason this book did appeal to me was the H, Leo. He was all kinds of hot and boy did that man love him some sex. A portion of the dialogue between the H and h was stilted but what worked between them really worked. I liked that Piper strived to make Leo lose control and when that control was lost or faltering, when Leo was vulnerable, needy and desperate, the things that he would say...sigh. His vulnerability and amazement in those moments felt real. When he attempted to extend their relationship, when he defended her and reached for her, all of that was great. I wanted more of that. I wanted more of him in those moments.
Piper is a 24 year old girl who just broke up with her selfish boyfriend and had a mortifying one night stand with her brother's friend who blurted out his feelings for her, feeling she did not share. One night while waiting to meet up with a friend at a pub for much needed girl talk she meets Leo, a charismatic, sexy, potty-mouthed Irishman who is as much a gentleman as he is gorgeous. It is evident from the start that they have chemistry and Leo pursues her. They meet up for drinks the following weekend - and have an incredibly, uh, vigorous weekend together. Let me just highlight that - an. incredibly. vigorous. weekend. together.
So far the book was a lot of fun, but as reality sets in with the workweek we see Piper fall to pieces in a way that is really sad to see. She is incredibly insecure, half wishing Leo would never call again, half wishing a relationship with him would develop. Her ex and then a man in a shop pulls a dastardly deed and Leo again comes to demonstrate what a great guy he is. Piper, however, is still all awkward and insecure. It made me feel really bad for her to be this anxious. Come on Piper, you are gorgeous and sweet! It also made me sad to have a happy-for-now ending because you can just see that for Piper to have a happy ending it will have to be despite herself - something Leo will make happen. Which, being as amazing as he is, we can only hope he does.
I would recommend this book just so nobody misses out on Leo, and the uh, vigorous weekend.
At the beginning of this book I thought Piper was ok as the female lead but by the end of the book I found it very hard to like her or believe in her character. There were a lot of inconsistencies in the characterization that put me off. I found it very hard to believe that someone who could blithely take guys home for sex couldn't face the creep at the computer shop. I found it very hard to believe that she was worried about Andrew becoming physically violent but still let him into her apartment. At the beginning, Piper was a fairly confident, self assured person who, nonetheless, was sensitive enough to feel bad about things going south with her boyfriend. Next she's behaving like a callous cow with Gray, then she acts like a total emotional coward with Leo. The inability to think clearly, speak clearly, or finish a sentence was the icing on the cake (or the nail in the coffin). Can't really say I liked this book.
This book was simply wonderful. I love everything about it. Leo and Piper were just perfect together...funny, entertaining, incredibly sexy. I really enjoyed the contrasts in types of couples and love she put in the book. The sex was intense, erotic, and really hot! Leo and Piper's chemistry leaps off the page and really pull for this couple. It's a perfect story and the ending is completely satisfying. Everyone should read this book and savor every delicious word. It's totally worth it! Leo stole my heart.

I enjoyed this book but had a hard time with Piper's character. I didn't understand where she was coming from or her motivation for her actions. I almost felt like there was some backstory that I missed that would explain why she reacted the way she did. I thought the part about the pictures on her computer was odd - it was never explained what they were or what they meant, just that she was embarrassed about them. Overall this story did keep me interested enough to read it quickly!
Well written. Verra hot lovin, and some of the best dirty talk I've read in a while. I didn't really love the heroine, because I have a hard time with "casual sex" and She sort of seemed like a trollop. Leo was awesome. I loved him and his little beast in the cage :P
More like 2.5 stars. I really wanted to like this one, and have heard great things about this author. Unfortunately the heroine didn't work for me. She was too naive, too self conscious and I couldn't find a way to like her character. The only thing that saved this book for me was Ian. He was sexy and devilish. He was very masculine and yet an emotionally depth character all at the same time.
Scarlett Parrish nails it in this book. The first person point-of-view really brings the reader into the story, and Leo is a great hero. And just wait for the bird...
I highly recommend this book as a good introduction to an up-and-coming author!
This wasn't bad... But the maturity of at least Piper made the read feel more like a YA book...with hot sex which just made me feel dirty. At 30ish you would think that Leo would want to be involved with someone a little more... Adult and less like... Well highschoolish.
