Could be a good resource for the absolute beginner who's not sure where to start, or if they're even capable of starting. The book dedicates a lot of time addressing misconceptions that may hold someone back from trying, which is nice. Could be condensed quite a bit, I think.

The exercises and assignments are very accessible to the complete beginner, but I don't think they go quite far enough to apply to the intermediate or advanced artist wanting to develop their skills.

There's good stuff in here, I just mostly didn't enjoy the way Mona organizes and conveys the information. Not a bad book, just not for me.

I was really more interested in Mona Brookes' Drawing with Children but this is the only one the library had. It gave me a good sense of her style and techniques. I read it through like she suggested for teachers but do hope to go back and complete a few of the excercises and I think I will try and get my hands on the book for younger children.

Always wanted to draw, but felt you couldn't...or even that you shouldn't? This book is for you. For anyone who was ever told to colour inside the lines or criticized for their attempts. Read this book. Follow the exercises. Watch yourself blossom.
