Stories about the Ozarks in the 1930s were reminiscent of a great time in history. My families were a significant part of this history. The Halbrooks and Needhams, trying to escape the evils of the Civil War, transplanted their families from McNairy County, Tennessee into Van Buren County, Arkansas in the early 1860s. The burning of the South was a very sad time, but the move provided my family a chance to start fresh in a safer state. The Ozarks area is a spooky and mysterious, yet magical place. At this time in history it was very remote, but full of loving Christian families who were tested by hard times. I am proud that my family was part of this time in history.
