Samantha Wayland

24 books696 followers
Samantha Wayland has three great loves in life; her family, writing books, and hockey. She is often found apologizing to the first for how much time and attention is taken up by the latter two, but they forgive her because they are awesome and she clearly doesn’t deserve them.

Sam lives with her family -- of both the two and four-legged variety -- outside of Boston. She is a wicked passionate New Englander (born and raised) who has been known to wax rhapsodic about the Maine Coast, the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont, and the sensible way in which her local brethren don’t see a need for directional signals (blinkahs!).

Her favorite things include mango martinis, tiny Chihuahuas with big attitude problems, and the Oxford comma.

I'm gonna start this review with a little background story...bear with me! Once upon a time, a new girl joined my critique group, The Quirky Ladies. My first impression of Sam...she had a big laugh, a big personality, she told rip-roaring funny stories, and she cussed a lot. (Which was a plus for me because I cuss like a sailor). I wondered what kind of stories she would write. I was somewhat sheltered. In spite of the fact that half of my group writes erotica, I never heard of triads, butt plugs, or face-to-face male sex. I'm not a big erotica lover...I hate stories that only talk about f**king, and leave out the emotional connection. I need love with my sex, dammit!

Anyhoo, Sam gives us three chapters of her story and I am blown right out of the water. I could not believe she wasn't published. Her characters literally come alive, her prose is smooth as butt-ah, and the story sucked me in and had me totally engaged right away. I was pissed I only had 3 chapters, and insisted she give me the whole damned story pronto! Which she did, and I sucked it down faster than a mango margarita.

With Grace is just like Sam. It has a great sense of humor, a big personality, and is emotional and entertaining. This book has an excellent storyline, and a loving, lusty and believable triad between three wonderful and distinct characters. The concept of a triad--three people who are truly "in love" with each other--is actually quite sweet, even in an erotica story. I loved how Philip learns to not only accept another person in his love affair with Grace, but also to accept his own attraction, and ultimately love, for another man (Mark). Also, the sex is...um....er....very illuminating. (I learned what butt plugs are, for goodness sake!). This is a stunning debut for an erotica author, and I can't wait for Sam to publish the rest of this series. Grade: A

If you loved Destiny Calls you will like this one as well. The stories are actually linked, as we get to meet Brandon and Patrick from Destiny Calls on the job as detectives working the case. You should read Destiny Calls first. Although you don't stricktly have to. They are stand alone.

I can actually copy paste my review for Destiny Calls for this one... So I did! Everything I said in that review I can say for this one.

This book was so great! One of my all times favorites!

I loved the three MC Grace, Mark and Philip.
I loved sexual tension, growing and exploding.
I loved the alternating POV to get to know what each character is thinking.
I loved the desciptions of everything.
I have so many favorite scenes.
It was hot hot HOT and at the same time so romantic, between each of the characters and with all three at once.
There is actually suspense happing in this too.

Highly recommended!

"With Grace" was an absolute yummy, read. Philip and Mark have definitely been added to the 'book-boyfriend-list'. Also, the author, Samantha Wayland, has a wonderful way with shifting the point of view, so each character, within the triad, has a clear voice the reader can follow. More importantly, the reader wants to keep turning the page.
Also, check out "Destiny Calls' by Samantha Wayland. The story was just as sexy and thrilling, as "With Grace."
The fantastic, Samantha Wayland has also made her way onto my top ten list of authors 'to read'.
Sincerely,
Sassy Jacksun

My Review:
I read this book a couple of weeks ago. In fact, I read it immediately after Destiny Calls because I loved that book so much. This one is actually the book BEFORE Destiny Calls although they actually are following the same timeline, which is kind of interesting. If you plan to read them both, I do recommend that you read them in order, although it is definitely not necessary to read both of them to be able to enjoy either book. They are BOTH very good and stand up well on their own.

This book is about a triad relationship. The book starts with Philip & Grace, who are in a committed heterosexual relationship together. Grace works at Mark's restaurant. Mark is bi-sexual and deeply attracted to both Grace & Phillip. All three are friends. When Mark's restaurant is vandalized, no one realizes why, but they know that the restaurant is vulnerable and is going to take a lot of hours to fix over the weekend. Since Phillip & Grace live just a couple of blocks away from the restaurant, they offer to let Mark bunk at their place for the weekend and things heat up from there.

I love the way that Samantha writes. She can write sexual tension and explicit scenes so incredibly well. We are talking scorching HOT! But that doesn't mean that the romance isn't there too, because it absolutely is. Mark's character is one that is all about charisma. Everyone is drawn to him, but he's in a vulnerable position in this book. His baby, the restaurant, is being attacked...and he is being introduced into this new relationship that is already established for the other two members. There is an amount of uncertainty there that really endears him as a character. Then there is Phillip. I liked him & Grace...a LOT! He's always been very staid and very "missionary" in the bedroom (much to Grace's dissatisfaction, although she has never let him know that) but from the very beginning of this book, he is branching out and letting go of his reserve. I really liked that this is not the norm for him, but he is totally open to changing things.

The other facet to this book that I loved was the suspense. The vandalism continues and escalates and no one can figure out why. They just know that the three of them are being targeted and that there is strength in numbers...which complements the story line so incredibly well. ;o)

Overall, this was really just a fabulously HOT, wonderful read. I HIGHLY recommend Samantha Wayland. She has an incredible writing talent and I can't wait to see where she goes from here!!

One of my Favorite books. Reviewed on the Blog Book Review

Can we say raunchy??

Sometimes when author's write a really good erotic story they simply focus on the sex (which isn't a bad idea), but if we wanted straight porn we would watch porn. I like character development, plausible plots (sometimes) and great witty conversations, and this book has it in spades.

The love story that is present between Grace and Phillip is scorching hot, yet missing that special something because they are both hiding from what they truly want from each other, then Grace takes a leap and Phillip loves it so much he lets go of his iron control and the scene that takes place is so sexy, raw and yet filled with love.

Mark is their friend, grace's boss, and totally turned on by both of them, he doesn't know who he wants more, the straight laced lawyer Phillip or the sultry flirtatious Grace, but he would never do anything to harm them so he sits on the sidelines and does nothing, until one evening when he needs their friendship and support.

The author manages to pack a good amount of story into this volume, which coincides with the other story and actually enhances the other story, even though you can read them on your own why would you?? It's so much more fun to read them together. I truly enjoyed the story development and the realism within the story, especially having to do with the relationships being formed and how they affect each person and their beliefs about themselves. She handled it well without being trite or just ignoring it, nor did she make it the be all end all of the story.

It's an amazing read, check it out when you can *like right away*
Enjoy the read

I just love how easy Samantha’s writing is to read. I honestly started, and the next thing I know my kindle is telling me I’m forty percent of the way through. It was emotional, hot and they all just drew me into their world. The sense of danger was a nice touch and while it never got too close (other than briefly once) the fact that is was always there in the background helped keep things fresh. I did feel a little frustrated that the readers know all along (from the synopsis) what the bad guys are looking for, but it took most of the book for our leads to figure it out. I just wanted them to catch up and figure it out. However, perhaps if we didn't know it would have felt out of left field to suddenly throw the flash drive out, or a letdown after so much build-up?

Either way, if you have loved Samantha’s previous work, then you’ll love this. Anyone who is knew to this author, if you love HOT scenes that are incredibly well written with characters that feel real and deep, then definitely give Samantha a try!

Ok...ménage books are not my usual reading, but a friend recommended this erotic romance and I am SO GLAD she did. It was well worth the leap of faith. Wow.

In my opinion, most erotic romance has steamy sex scenes at the cost of a well developed plot and characters- but not this book. Yes it moves quickly, the whole book takes place over one week, but it doesn't feel rushed, or missing anything. There are elements of suspense , since the a boston mob is after them, that keep the story moving, and had me refusing to put it down until I knew what happened to the characters.

Was it steamy? HELL YES! Samantha knows how to write love scenes. The language and words choices she used made me feel like a voyeur in the apartment, and sometimes, I was one of the characters. It was masterfully written without being crude. It was beautiful.

Overall impression: this one will remain on my kindle to reread in the future and I'm going to order Destiny Calls now. I can't wait!

This erotic triad is good, but not as hot or as engaging as Destiny Calls. I think the timeline for developing this relationship was the problem for me here. One week seems too short a time for a serious relationship like this one to really take root... and to be about more than just sexual pleasure. The two books -- Destiny Calls and With Grace -- are linked though... the mafia plot makes sense if both books are read, and Patrick and Brandon make an appearance here. There's a lot of internal dialog going on in this book (actually in both books), but for some reason that doesn't take away from the hotness of the scenes. Maybe that's because personally I don't mind internal dialog.

Both books are recommended to fans of M/M/F threesomes. There are some excellent, sexy M/M scenes in both books, as well as M/F/M... nobody gets left behind. :D

I give this book a solid 3.5 stars. While I enjoyed With Grace, I didn't find it quite as compelling (both plot and characters) as Destiny Calls (which I read first). One thing I think Samantha Wayland does exceptionally well is characterisation and I enjoyed the emotional connections between these characters as well as the hot sex. Wayland is definitely an author I want to read more from.

My only complaint is that it's too short. I loved the little bit of intrigue and exploration of voyeurism and acceptance of bisexuality. Phillip, Grace, and Mark finding each other and opening themselves up to love was amazing to watch.

My main issue here was that the genre choice remained undecided throughout the entire book. It tried to be an erotica book and a romance book, and ended up failing the rules of both genres.* It was not a good romance since a) the characters were pretty one dimensional; b) their relationship developed unbelievably fast; c) the background plot was thin and uninspired. On the other hand, it had too much plot, angst and internal monologue for an erotica book. Since the sex scenes were pretty hot, it probably should have stuck with erotica and ditched the romance.

* I know there is a sub-genre called "erotic romance", but even these books usually choose one set of rules (usually erotica's and not romance's) and follow it.

Brandon Bennett and Patrick from the book Destiny Calls are in this book; but With Grace is a standalone MMF story that does not require that you read Destiny Calls.
Mark, Philip, & Grace are fun characters. I enjoyed the adventure they accidentally found themselves wrapped up in. I wish these characters had more of a back story ( childhood, parents, how they met ) but it was still a great read. Samantha Wayland knows how to make you care about her characters.
Adding Patrick and Brandon to the story gave the budding triad relationship between Mark, Philip, & Grace an extra layer of commonality and amusement. Five star fun.

Having read all of Wayland’s back list before circling back to her debut, I can definitely say she’s only gotten better. This fell flat for me. As a debut it’s solid, but knowing how complex her future characters are and how she handles the ménages in future storylines, it just felt lackluster. The amount of damage and break ins the big bad did compared to the reason why seemed a little OTT. The relationship between the couple (who’ve been together only 6 months) and the third goes from crushing/flirting to madly in love and moving in together in 4 days over a long weekend of trauma bonding — a little too instalove to be believable if they’re not supernatural beings. Not to mention the man going from straight to a master of blow jobs during the first one he gives within a day or two of admitting attraction — naur, I can’t believe that. (Why is the immediate blow job expert always the detail I refuse to believe?)

Tropes: ménage with sword crossing, instalove, biawakening/GFY, only one bed, forced proximity, trauma bonding, possessive/protective alpha mode

I enjoyed this threesome menage story. The love itself is sweet, and the heroine is smart and confident. Of course, so are her men - handsome and completely smitten.

Everybody in this town has a menage except to me.
Dear writer, please stop using the word "cream" to describe female arousal and stick to the sexytimes. Plot is not your forte.

So, lets get the plot out of the way. Mafia stalking. This book is not aiming for a gritty realism vibe. But it's readable, if a little cheesy.

Then there's the 3 way romance story. Which moved from zero to sixty very fast. Again, maybe not the most realistic, but that's ok because....

it meant we got to the sex scenes sooner. And so help me but I found those hot. Samantha Wayland writes a good sex scene as far as I'm concerned, you can feel the tension crackling around the characters and there is a delightful absense of twee descriptions.

Maybe I'm just a bit hormonal at the moment, but I found this a really enjoyable, angst free read. Really really enjoyable. So 4 stars it is then (am I getting soppy in my old age?)

The Premise
Grace and Philip are a couple. Mark is Grace’s boss and he’s intensely attracted to Grace...and Philip. Philip has never been attracted to a man...until Mark. When Mark’s restaurant is broken into and strange events keep happening over a weekend, the three get closer - in more ways than one. Bow chica bow wow.

My Thoughts
Hot Triad Sex. I mean, seriously hot. This cannot be underscored enough. Ms. Wayland has a way with getting into the moment and bringing her reader with her. The chemistry is strong between the three characters, and even better, I think it’s a pretty equal attraction between them - I didn’t feel as if Grace and Philip treated Mark as strictly an add-on that they could take or leave as they like.

My main quibble with the story didn’t feel developed enough and the secondary plot involving the break-ins at Mark’s restaurant felt like an afterthought - but then again, the condensed timeframe worked against it. Essentially, this all happens in the space of one weekend, which is difficult to really delve into one relationship and build something that feels genuine, never mind having to overcome an obstacle such as Philip’s belief that he’s straight and confused about his attraction to Mark or the fact that these three are jumping into a relationship that is considered taboo by many. Other than a brief moments of conflict, Philip seemed to accept it a bit too easily.

The jump from intense attraction to love felt fairly quick to happen for all, even though it is stressed that they know each other prior to the start of the book. I think Philip, Grace and Mark dove into the deep end of the pool with their relationship and there were no repercussions to it. It would have been interesting to see them deal with censure or acceptance of others in their lives - friends, family, co-workers - anything to put their love into context and give some added depth to the story. This is a clearly unconventional relationship but it feels as if it exists in a vacuum. A hot, sexy vacuum. Or maybe I’m asking for too much with my menage.

The Bottom Line
If you’re into seriously sexy menage, I would definitely recommend you read Ms. Wayland’s books, but my favorites are still the Hat Trick trilogy.

I've read a few books by Samantha Wayland, but I think this has been my favorite read she's penned by far. Hot & romantic with a bit of mystery and whodunnit. I really liked Philip and how he threw himself headlong into his attraction to Mark with only a bit of fear trying to hold him back - fear he just rationalized away with one hell of an internal argument, coming out the other side a winner like a good lawyer!

The only thing that kept me from loving it was, well, it seemed like Grace and Philip were only just coming into their own as more than a "comfortable" couple, were only just feeling out what letting go and really owning their amped up sexuality felt like. I think, had that been explored a bit more, maybe had them go in for more than one night of debauchery, it would have felt more encompassing when they enfolded Mark into their relationship.

Otherwise, smoking hot sex and some real emotional depth here. I wouldn't mind seeing a follow-up short story of them all at the firm's Christmas party maybe, or the opening of an additional restaurant, and how that played out in public.

(And I really do hope that there's a Patrick/Brendan book...I'mma check on that right now.)

Good book with very likeable characters. Unfortunately, like a lot of reviewers I read the author's other book, Destiny Calls, first. Now there's a book that rocked my world! Hello, Ms. Wayland, could you please write a dozen more like this... STAT! :-)

Anyway, back to With Grace. I liked it. Decent length (the book, you perverts!) interesting story, hot romantic scenes. If you're looking for menage, mmf, comtempo, I'd recommend it as this lady can really write, unlike many, many others in the ER world.

Then go read Destiny Calls!

Grace has a boyfriend, Philip. Her boss, Mark, is also her best friend. A mobster loses his computer stick at Mark's restaurant and returns at night to find it. In the process Grace, Philip, and Mark are under surveillence by the mobster to find the stick. To protect each other they move in together and Philip has to make some heavy decisions. A good book. Well done. I liked the suspense in the story as they try to figure out who wants to harm them.

This book is one hot number, with many a hot-hot-hot sex scene. However, there was just not enough story. I really liked all three characters, and wish I could have gotten to know them a bit better.

I liked the appearance of Patrick and Brandon, but again, there wasn't enough of a story there. We didn't really find out anything new about them, or get a different perspective on their relationship. They really could have been anyone. Definitely a lost opportunity there.

Good read for the steam factor and for the mushy happy feels times three. Don't worry, the 'plot' doesn't get in the way too much, but it gives some sort of backbone for the story to hang on ;) If that's what you're in the mood for, give this a try.
