Using Nook

Rate this book
Using nook is a unique resource that goes beyond the manual and includes comprehensive information on locating third-party books and other specialty topics. It provides tutorials for doing basic tasks and is comprised of valuable tips on how to get the most from the device rather than focusing purely on basic usability. The author, Jim Cheshire, has been entrenched in nook research and use since he first heard about the new device. He has delved into every aspect of it, hacked it, tweaked it, etc. Even before getting his hands on one, he researched it and listened to the experts discuss its use. He is an early adopter and firm believer in the product and doesn't hesitate to make the claim that it is here to stay. Jim is a published Que author, an avid reader, and a self-proclaimed nook expert.

So, I guess I would only recommend this book to nook users, but it's a great resource if you do own a nook. Granted, there is a lot of information in here that you could find in the nook owner's manual, but I am giving it it's 5 star rating for the info that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. First of all, the author describes everything in crystal clear language that I have not found from other nook resources online. There are great resources for ebooks, including one website that price compares ebooks across many websites so you can get the best price. I was also introduced to Calibre, which I wasn't using before, and I would say it's a must for anyone who wants an organized ebook library. (You can change book tags, formats, and add/change cover art.) There's also information about softrooting your nook, which is basically a jailbreak hack. I tried it, and liked it, but found that it drained my battery too fast, so I went back to original factory settings. It would be something I would consider doing again if the battery drainage issues were resolved in a future edition. Anyway, great info for nook owners.
