My Surprise Mate
Holly Ellison finds herself pregnant after a one-night mistake. What’s worse is he is a werewolf and wants nothing to do with her or their baby. Holly is scared of trying to raise a half werewolf baby by herself, but she refuses to give up. There is no way she can stay in her hometown and leaves with no destination in mind. Stopping in a small town in Texas ends up flipping her whole world upside down. Will she be able to move on and have a peaceful full life, or will her past come back to haunt her?

I can't tell you how much garbage I've waded through before finally landing on this one! So, so glad I did. Really unique story, and didn't follow the standard rejected mate story that I expected. Overall a great book with a good HEA. It's not perfect as there is some issues not resolved but it DOES NOT end on a cliffhanger!! More like the issues could have lead to another book, but the last page makes it clear that that isn't going to happen. And one of those issues did affect my feeling of the book as a whole which is why I gave the 4 stars and not 5.
Things I loved -
It read like an actual book and not just a story online. And no issues with grammar or editing.
The steamy scenes were just steamy enough without being graphic.
The extended characters had actual personalities and were fleshed out a bit
And the best - the wolves weren't really separate personalities from the people.
Thing I hated -
There was one issue for the lead, Holly, that I was upset about. At first it was ok because I thought that it was leading into another storyline, but it was just thrown in there for no real reason. It literally did not affect the story in any way, and did nothing to move the plot along so it felt like it was just a distressing thing thrown in there for the sake of it. And I hate when authors do that. The story wrapped up in a way where that issue can't be resolved and knowing I'll be mad at about it no matter how many times I read it, I probably won't reread this one anytime soon.

My Surprise Mate

I loved this story. Both of them, actually. The first part is about Holly and her mate, Alpha Dane. The second part is about their daughter, Kyra, and her mate, Blaze.
The story was somewhat on the unique side. There were a couple cliché moments. Holly is a strong and independent woman and is certainly no man's doormat. Alpha Dane is pure marshmallow in her hands. The same for Kyra and her mate, Blaze.
Despite that, it needs a really good editing. Punctuation is bad. There aren't many typos, but a lot of sentences have words in them that are completely bizarre. It's not even accidentally switching 2 words. It's like a word that was never meant to be there, just is. i.e. "And how did he get my new phone number? Though he is biologically unexplainable." and "What was me stand to my feet, and I could feel his whole body shaking with rage." This happens quite a bit in both books. Wondering why I still gave it 4 stars? It moves along at a good pace for the most part. I love the characters. The story is intriguing and kept me interested enough that I read it straight through. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because it needs editing badly.

This was not good. Needs a ton of editing and part of that should be with how Holly reacts. She goes from timid to crying to angry and wanting to leave all in the span of minutes. I get that she’s pregnant, but she acts like a hormonal 12 year old that doesn’t understand how to regulate emotions yet. I couldn’t finish it. I will give the author props on an interesting idea, but it needs a lot of work.

I love the book, but I really look forward to seeing more from this story because where it ended when I finished reading left me expecting a sequel. The platform the author published on is a platform that makes it easy to add chapters to a book or even add a sequel with ease. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
