The story of a man who started life with almost everything against him. Truman Mahoney struggles through life immersed in the criminal lifestyle. He spends many years in prison followed by a dangerous attempt to reclaim stashed stolen loot and make a new life of luxury. Tragically victimized by the underworld of crime and completely broken by the huge hand of destiny, he finds God and turns his life into an example of useful wholeness.
I was so privileged to read Hounded By Clifford Neal
anyone who loves a true story would love to read Hounded. This story shows the grace of God in every page and how God will reach out to his own and make use they come to Christ. In this Story we meet Truman Mahoney. Born into a family of strife Truman must deal with a whole lot of heartache in his life. As a result of his tragic childhood Truman turns to a life of crime. All through Trumans life we see a man fighting agents Gods will for him to accept salvation, but God never gives up and eventually Truman finds and accepts Christs will in his life.
This story starts out with the problems Truman and his brother had to face in a family that no longer wanted either of them. After their parents divorced Truman and his brother were put into a orphanage because both parents thought is was best for there new lives. Turman and his brother were throw away children and its not wonder that because of this they fell into the wrong company and a life of crime.
Trumans story will at time shock us and sometimes even make us laugh , but most of all it will make us be so thankful for the love and grace of God who can forgive us and call us his own in spite of ourselves.
Hounded it the kind of story that makes us really see a loving and forgiving God whos grace is made perfect in our weakness and whos love for us cannot me measured. It teaches us that nothing can separate us from the love of God and that His will, can be done in our lives even when we think we are just to sinful to warrant his attention .
This is a fantastic true story and one I will recomend to everyone
“Hounded” is a story about a man who was destined to a life of crime from an early age; so it seemed. A man, who every turn along the way, felt and heard the call of God asking him to set his life straight. One might believe that someone like Truman Mahoney could never pay heed to the calling of God but, after you read this story(true)you will see everything in a new light.
“Hounded” is a story filled with unexpected emotions at the turn of each page. I’m not an avid reader but, I found “Hounded” to be well worth the read. “Hounded” captures your attention from the beginning and you cannot put the book down until the end(except for daily chores). Truman Mahoney, my favorite and main character in the book, taught me that mankind can find God despite come what may in one’s life. Life came down hard on him yet, he kept God close to his heart regardless of the circumstances he was in. Truman Mahoney may have not been perfect but, who is?
Clifford Neal is one of the best authors I have had the honor of becoming acquainted with. His ability to write in detail, capture vividly and lifelike the hardships of the great depression, amazes me still. He took great measures in writing “Hounded” and every bit of his effort showed as I read each gem of a page. I can definitely see a sequel to Truman Mahoney’s story coming forth one day and I look forward to reading more of Clifford Neal’s books. His faith in God has filled me with much hope, understanding and love; I know for others he has worked with and those who read his books as we
I'd give this book 10 stars if I could. This is an amazing true story but the way the author tells it absorbs you so that it reads like fiction. I have a feeling I'll be re-reading this one from time to time. I'm gonna go see what else this author wrote.
Hounded, by Clifford Neal, was a book birthed from a friend he would meet in a group over his hobby of converting and old church bus to a motor home. I believe that the Lord opened the door for he and his friend Kenny Cole to share via e- mail the life of the Mahoney brothers and their created gang. It was Clifford Neal that would meet Truman Mahoney and his 3 kids that lived next door. Over time, through the love extended, his family would come to know the Lord. Truman, now aged and roughed from a life of crime and imprisonment, shared with Clifford what this book will share with you-a real raw account of the unfortunate upbringing the brothers had and how their way of "survival" would lead to repetitive crime.
Because our early foundation shapes us somewhat, the rejection and placement in an orphanage for the brothers began to harden their hearts. Though his father promised to visit but never did, it was the New Testament that was given to Truman by him that virtually remained at his side and was often read. Out of the rubbish of life God can call a heart and it would be repeatedly that Truman would hear the call of God drawing him. Hounded, as the title suggests, is the realization that God pursues us even when our heart is far away in sin. "During the course of almost 3 years of robbing they had reached into many states and many banks and they had killed 8 people."
Author Neal was able to capture the vivid details of their robberies, imprisonment, and burial/retrieval of the money as he sat in front of microphones recording Truman's story. This book is a real page-turner and will amaze you at the ingenious crime planning involved in boarding trains, busses, bikes and purchasing vehicles nationwide. It had me reflect on how wasted a life of talent can be when channeled in inappropriate ways. Truman's later years would fear the judgement if God. "The memory of those feelings of dread washed over him...he was reduced to drawing himself up in a fetal position and whimpering remorseful little cries toward a God he knew was reading his mind."
Though God's loving grace is ever present, our labors to gain money unjustly can result in vanity and chasing after the wind so to speak. Truman's life teaches it is never too late but that our life was created for a much higher purpose. Though his older brother Harry dominated most decision making, it was the most important decision that I wish he would have adopted from Truman. Harry's decision making is now irreversible and if perhaps you know of those in need of Christ, I highly recommend this book to you. It is my prayer that Hounded will circulate into the hands of those needing more of Him. A definite 5 star book.
