Wolfgang Hohlbein is a German author of science fiction, fantasy and horror fiction who lives near Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia. His wife, Heike, is also a writer and often works with her husband. She often comes up with the story ideas and therefore is generally credited as co-author. Their daughter, Rebecca, is also a writer.
Writing short stories since age 15, Hohlbein was first recognized as an author after sending in a manuscript he and his wife had written at a fantasy and science fiction writing contest in 1982. They won and their book, Märchenmond (English title: "Magic Moon"), was published by Ueberreuter Publishing, soon becoming a bestseller and winning several awards. It is one of their greatest successes till today.
Many of his more than 200 books are translated and published in many European countries as well as in South Korea. Yet for many years none of his works had been translated into English. In 2006, Magic Moon was translated into English and published in the United States.
The book itself is ok sometimes really good. How good the historical facts are, I cant comit. My knowledge of the bronze/iron-age is very poor. But I have no Idea why it is named "Die Tochter der Himmelsscheibe" . The story is about a women who is, together with her babydaughter, the only surviver of a big desaster. Might me a vulcano erruption or the impact of comet that does not become clear. But her people had knowledge the people where she an her doughter refuge havent. She lives with this new people as a wise women and raise her daughter. When her daughter is about 12-14 some things happend which made the mother start teaching the daughter about her knowledge. But they are overrolled but some incidents which make that the have to flee.
The Himmelsscheibe is only twice mentioned. On the coverpicture it is shown as a knob of a sword, but the real Himmelsscheibe of Nebra is about 32 cm in diameter and about 2kg. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebra_sk... So a real connection between the Himmelsscheibe of Nebra and this story cant be found. All in all the story has severy lengthy passages with no-use information.
