If you enjoy legal thrillers then this might be the series for you !

In this book we have a plot that takes you on a roller-coaster pulling your mind from one person to another as you try to solve the murder. The author has done the book in a way that it is easy to slide into the story and get to grips with it, a couple of times I was slightly thrown off but I am with most books set in America.

Sabre Orin Brown was a fantastic character to read about and go through the story with , when the wife of the dead man is accused of the murder , Sabre knows she must stop at nothing to get the truth of the real murderer.

A great read that will have you second guessing every character is who/what they say they are !

I was a bit disappointed in this book, hoping that it would be a legal battle. I love well-written courtroom scenes. Instead it was a mish-mash of romance and investigation with just a wee bit of courtroom work on a case that was peripheral to the main plot.

Betty's husband, John, is attacked and killed one evening, in their trailer. Betty and John were apparently Sabre's good friends, although there is little evidence (back-story) of that friendship. Mostly we just take her word for it. Sabre, our legal-beagle heroine (very attractive, of course) is being wooed by Luke (he is a hunk, of course,) but she's also lusted after by her JP, her P.I., who seems to be the most competent individual in the story, not to mention Bob, a legal colleague. The story twists here and there as Sabre realizes that Betty is not telling her the truth and nothing is it appears. I was disappointed in the ending which seemed to be antithetical to the story being told by the killer.

I don't mean to be too negative because the story did hold my interest, and the writing is competent. According to her bio, Teresa Burrell is an attorney whose practice is largely devoted to juvenile court and now, semi-retired is focused on promoting children's issues. Sabre is supposed to be a child advocate, so I think the book would have been much better had she built a plot around some child advocacy issue as they did on the better shows of The Guardian before it devolved into melodramatic soap between the characters. Perhaps her other books do. 2.576 stars.

The Advocate's Betrayal starts in a good, solid thriller way, with the perfect hook to grab a reader's attention and make them want to find out whodunit and why.

Unfortunately, the next three-quarters of the book didn't really live up to that thrilling start. Even so, the mix of stories going on in Sabre's life made it an entertaining read.

At the top of the list is Sabre's investigation into the death of her dear friend, John (the victim of that thrilling start to the book), and the arrest of his wife, Betty. Taking a big step out of her comfort zone as a child advocate, Sabre steps up to the bar to defend Betty (who was really fairly annoying, to be honest).

At the same time, Sabre continues her work as a child advocate, which in this case involves her in a racially charged case of parents raising their two children to hate. Although this side story keeps the reader aware that Sabre does have other duties besides defending her friend, Betty, it was really just a detour from the main plot (although not a bad one).

Then surrounding all this is the blossoming romance between Sabre and the handsome newcomer, Lucas, a friend of Betty and John.

Add this all together with her ongoing friendship with Defense Lawyer, Bob, and Private Investigator, JP, and the stage is set for The Advocate's Betrayal.

Author, Teresa Burrell, does tell a good story; however, she does tend to pad things at times with a little too much unnecessary information when setting the scene. This caused a loss in momentum at times, particularly in the first three-quarters of the book. Once things really started to happen, the book moved smoothly and excitingly to the end.

I think, perhaps, I've become way too familiar with little tricks some authors attempt when trying to detract attention from a particular character. Either that or I'm just a really suspicious person. (I prefer to think the former.) Either way, I knew who the killer was, well within the first quarter of the book. I thought I knew why, as well, but I was wrong on that case until about halfway through. As a result, the ending came as no surprise at all to me, not even the attempted big twist in the last sentence. Even so, I was just pleased with myself for getting it right.

Overall, The Advocate's Betrayal was an enjoyable read with pleasant enough characters and a believable story line. I liked it enough to be now interested in reading the first book in this series at some point. I would probably give it 3.5 stars rather than 3, but it didn't quite make it as a 4 star read for me.

This book was a goodreads win for me and arrived signed by the author! nice touch.
I found the story moderately interesting but extremely predictable. The writing was just O.K. with not much that was good enough to stay with you. Just a lot of the same old same old. Lover isn't who you thought he was... a character wrongly accused of murder...When the lead character feels queasy in the morning I have to roll my eyes, so thank God Burrell didn't follow through on that overused angle. I felt the book just needed something fresh and exciting. On the positive side I did like the JP character with his "cowboy ways". We didn't get a chance to warm up to the other characters however. Some of the landscape descriptions were good out in the country with wooden buildings always in need of paint etc...

Also the key piece of evidence in the discovery of the murderer was very good. I didn't see it and it's exposure was the highlight of the book for me.

Three solid stars. I liked it but it is unremarkable.

This book had the potential to be a great novel. It was suspenseful.

But I had such a hard time getting past the absurd premise that I found it very hard to enjoy this novel because I kept coming back to the absurdity. Sabre is friends with a couple. The husband is murdered by stabbing in his bed while he slept and the wife was not home at the time of the murder. She does not report the murder until the next day because (here comes the absurd part), when she came home, she did not want to wake her husband so she did everything in the dark and went to bed, so she didn't know she was sleeping next to a corpse until the next morning.

I find that ridiculous! I think I'd notice my husband was dead, no matter how dark the room was! Not only that, but her husband is a snorer! But she says she just enjoyed the quiet for a change and went to sleep.

This whole concept was just too ridiculous for me...

Despite this, it did have some good parts, so I will give it three stars instead of the one star I think such an absurd concept deserves.

This well-written legal thriller is the second book in the series and even better than the first. Child advocate Sabre Orin Brown is a likeable protagonist, as is her best friend, Bob. The minor characters are also well developed and interesting. The author demonstrates her inside knowledge of the legal system, which adds to the authenticity and the richness of the story.

The plot lines includes some tough social issues, with the author handles exceptionally well, with a little light romance to balance it out. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. An excellent read.

Wow! Teresa Burrell really impressed me in this second book of The Advocate series! It was really fast moving action! I was not able to put it down, every time I had a minute free I picked it up because the plot and characters was so good I was anxious to finish it. I will buy the third one for sure and please do not hesitate a minute to read this one because it is very written and everything in this book is really well hook together. Thanks to the author for sharing her talent with us.

Completely predictable from start to finish. The title alone gives you a pretty strong clue as to what to expect and it continues to be predictable from page 1. The second you are introduced to the betrayer you pretty much know who it is. I kept reading hoping that maybe one of my predictions would be wrong, but I was right at every turn and predicted ever "twist" right down to the last one. What a disappointment.

This book is the 2nd in the series. When I first started reading I wasn't to sure about it. This was a bit slower to grab me but the pace picked up and was well worth continuing. When a friend of Attorney Sabre Brown was found murdered in his home and his wife was arrested Sabre took the case pro bono. The more she and her PI friend JP dug into the case nothing seemed to add up. When Sabre confronts her client she refuses to give her anymore information than she already had. Sabre knows she is hiding something and is afraid unless she gets to the bottom of it soon her client will be convicted and as it turns out Sabre might lose her life as well.

This is Book Two in 'The Advocate Series.' Sabre Orin Brown is an attorney who represents children that have came from a difficult background. But when a friend is murdered and his wife is accused of his murder, Sabre knows it's going to be up to her to find the truth behind the death. Only working within the juvenile count, Sabre knows its not going to be as straightforward as she would like it to be. Nothing is what it seems once Sabre digs deeper into the murder. This story is a legal based thriller with a strong female character, Sabre Orin Brown. I found it a strong storyline that had me invested from the very beginning.

A lawyer specializing in children cases, is overwhelmed when a friend is accused of murdering her husband. The question of who can you trust, the courtroom scene seemed real.

If you read my review of The Advocate, then you know I met Ms. Burrell at my local Barnes and Noble. She gave me a bookmark for The Advocate and one for this book. The bookmark for The Advocate's Betrayal is what sold me on the books. Seriously, for a non mystery/suspense reader, I was sold with just "The Killer left nothing behind but a rosary, a kitchen knife, and a dead man."

I loved The Advocate for many reasons. I went into reading The Advocate's Betrayal thinking it would be along the same lines. I was wrong. I wasn't prepared for the intensity and heart-pounding moments Betrayal offered. The Advocate's Betrayal makes you question just how well you know the people around you.

The Advocate's Betrayal centers around an older couple Sabre knows and is very close to, John and Betty Smith. Sabre wakes up to a middle of the night phone call from Betty, telling her that John is dead. Sabre and her new boyfriend Luke arrive at the Smith house to find Betty covered in John's blood. Betty is arrested for premeditated murder but swears to Sabre and anyone who will listen that she didn't do it. Sabre believes Betty but something isn't adding up. Sabre enlists the help of her private investigator, John Phillip (JP) Torn, to help find the answers.

From the very first sentence Betrayal grabs you and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Once thing I've learned from reading Teresa's books is that you should NEVER take anything at face value. Things are not always as they appear. Just because you love, care, and trust someone doesn't mean they feel the same way about you.

With The Advocate's Betrayal, you have everything thrown at you, except the kitchen sink. Betrayal will take you on a journey to numerous states and expose you to love and loss, regrets, lies and untold truths, kidnappings, murder, police corruption and mobsters. Even if you think you've figured out what's going on, think again. The ending will shock you and leave you speechless.

I've read Betrayal a couple of times, thus I already know the ending. But each time I read it, I could still feel the intensity and I still got those heart-pounding moments. The Advocate's Betrayal is anything but a love story. But you will definitely fall in love.

This book was purchased by me.

This was another amazing book of Teresa. I loved the character sabre . They were very interesting and made the story more fascinating. With following them through this story I didn’t want to put the book down. The plot was interesting from the start and it made me want to read it more. I loved the authors writing style and it gave the book a very nice pacing where it allowed the sotry to flow nicely throughout the book. With the development process throughout this books and how they managed to tell this story was amazing. And with how the story ended I am intrigued to continue the series.

Sabre is awakened in the middle of the night with a phone call from a good friend Betty, who has just found her murdered husband in their bed. Naturally she rushes to her aid, acting as a friend until she realities that she should be thinking like the lawyer she is
Earlier in the evening Sabre, Betty and Sabre's wonderful new boyfriend Luke had all gone to the casino. They weren't together the whole time so Betty doesn't really have an alibi.
The next day Sobs (derived from her initials Sabre Orin Brown) and her work husband Bob, agree to do everything they can do to help Betty, Both .working pro bono .
The characters Sobs and Bob worth with in juvinial court are so well described you want to either hate them, comfort them, or just shake your head in amazement.

Betty isn't very forthcoming with her past so Sabre's investigator JP, begins looking into things. His searches only lead to more confusion.
Nothing is as it seems and that gives the plot more twists and turns than a carnival ride. The book is one of those books that I couldn't put down. I had to know what happened next. And what mystery would be complete without a surprise ending?
I received this book for free in exchange for this honest review.

"Pain, from a sharp knife plunged into his chest, yanked John out of a deep sleep. He forced his eyelids open. The only thing worse than the pain was the shock when he saw who was standing over him. It wasn't until the blood dripped on his face that he realized it was not a dream."

That first paragraph pulls you in and doesn't let you go until the end. John and Betty are Sabre's friends. When John is murdered and Betty is accused, Sabre is determined to prove her innocence. Along with Bob as co-counsel and JP to investigate Sabre sets out to do just that, but finds that Betty is hiding something and that something could get them all killed.

This book is fast paced and gripping. Towards the end I literally couldn't sit still. The action builds to a peak and doesn't disappoint. Teresa Burrell writes characters that you immediately like and by the end you feel like old friends. I read Advocate's Conviction first when I was introduced to the trio so it was nice to see what they were up to again in Betrayal and cannot wait to start on Advocate's Dilemma. I cannot say enough about Teresa Burrell and her Advocate's Series. I highly recommend them, you won't be disappointed.

I have become a fan of this author! I will contInue reading her book & series! I enjoyed book 2 for various reasons... The fact that the author doesn't harp or continue or rehash the story in book 1 was something I thoroughly enjoyed ! I hate reading a second (or 3rd+) book in a series and the author summarizes the previous books in the current. Yay, this did not occur here. Yes, it referenced something that occurred "last year", but didn't retell the story! Kudos Teresa Burrell for doing so!

A minor minor complaint I had in book 1 was timelime, and I am a freak of nature when I read a book and super critical of the timeline, and I have to give credit, this didn't seem to have that. It was crystal clear that weeks were going by...

I did guess early on the "who done it" part, however this did not detract from the story, that I seem to want to know if I was right or not! And honestly- being "right" didn't matter, the author tells a great story!

I already bought book 3! Great job Teresa Burrell! Very enjoyable reads!

The author has a gripping writing style that immediately draws you into the story. From the first sentence, I did not want to put the book down. This book would be great for a long car or airplane ride where you can devote your full attention to it. Her characters and descriptions are realistic, which only adds to the story. I highly recommend this book.

I read the first book and enjoyed it very much I decided to go ahead and read this one.....this book was a little slow in the beginning, but then it had so many twists and turns, kept me on the edge of my seat....I couldn't put it down. The ending left me with my mouth open....definitely will be reading the next book in the series. I guess if I had to say one negative thing about it was that some of the story from last book seemed unfinished. Like what happened to Carla? In the first book she was everywhere and yet nowhere in this one...an honorable mention to know what happened to her would have been nice. There were also several references to knowing characters in this book from the last one, however they were never mentioned in the last book.....huh? Overall a good story

Absolutely loved this book. Teresa Burrell actually surpassed herself form her novel "The Advocate" which I also really enjoyed. Her writing style is very descriptive without going overboard. I enjoyed this story because it was a great mystery/thriller but it also incorporated a love story and a bit more about the characters Sabre, JP, and Bob. (I think I actually fell in love with JP's character.) It shows the readers more of who she is in a personal level. This book has kept me flipping through the pages eager to find out what was going to happen next. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good, no great, mystery. I can't wait for another book by Teresa Burrell.

I liked book 2 as well as the first. Here is my review of 1 and the same holds true for book 2.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had a nice fast pace. I enjoyed the information regarding the Child services - law, advocates, group homes. The book kept me guessing "who done it". I liked the characters and especially liked the friendship between Sabre and Bob. It is refreshing to see a friendship that won't be turned into a "we've loved each other all along - let's get married and fight crime!" I liked it enough to get the next book, finished that and will continue on with the series. I would recommend this book.

For fans of legal dramas, this would probably be better suited than it was for me. I felt it was wordy and lagged a bit when describing detailed courtroom scenes, particularly in the beginning in reference to a subplot. Around the halfway mark, the story really picked up, then left me craving the more detailed scenes that were in the first portion of the book.
Because of this, I found it slightly off balance throughout. It took too long to climax and the closing was too brief. Overall, great potential but it didn't gain speed until the final 30% (or so) of the book, so it was hard to push through to the end.

This is the second book in the series. I did not enjoy it as much as the first, but it was still entertaining. I had figured it out from the beginning. Also, there were parts that were implausible....like when the characters are involved in a shooting that killed three, and yet they are allowed to leave the state immediately, with no investigation. It was a fast read, and I will still read the third in the series. Jus not right away.

Burrell does it again!! Amazing legal thriller that keeps you guessing. The many twists of the book last til the very end. The author has a legal background and it is very apparent. So if you are looking for a legal drama that has very legitimate circumstances this is for you. Burrell is quickly becoming a favorite writer of mine.

Who stabbed John Smith ? Sabre is Betty Smith's friend and attorney; she seeks the truth along with co-counsel Bob & PI JP. Their client isn't helping them much as they dig through a deceptive past. From San Diego to Austin to Chicago....

Did not want to put down

Teresa Burrell did it again! This is another successful novel in this series. So fast paced,it was hard to put down. The very end has me a bit baffled though. But I probably missed something as I was reading through drooping eyelids--not because the book was boring me, but because I just couldn't quit until I got to the end!
