I thought this book was confusing. I couldn't keep the people straight. Maybe it's because the names were hard to remember. Maybe it's because I read Medallion first and kept trying to link the two together.

Lack of editorial input apparent in the first three sentences. Starts with a laundry list of names like Sir Shaggy, Lord of the Scoobs. DNF.

Very short chapters, nearly all about war. 4* instead of 5 because I don't like when pronunciation guides are at the end instead of the beginning. Hard to keep the map, pronunciation, and the people straight but overall a good read.

Update after finishing the series. This might be my favorite of the three. Particularly the efforts to preserve the arts, the books, the good of Sarda under an unjust ruler. Also Leorian and his awakening to not being able to continue as a good man working for said ruler. That his conscience would have to make a difficult choice. "Evil will thrive only when the good allow it." The nobleness of the characters is inspiring. They act with dignity in difficult circumstances.
