In Night Pleasures, Kyrian of Thrace---an immortal who protects humans from vampires---wakes up one morning handcuffed to the one thing that can scare him: a conservative woman in a button-down shirt. But Amanda Devereaux turns out to be his perfect partner for hunting down a deadly foe, and for helping him to regain his soul and learn that love doesn't have to bite.

Night Embrace spins the story of Talon, an ancient Celtic warrior who killed the son of the god Camulus. Camulus cursed Talon, decreeing death for everyone he loved. Now a Dark-Hunter in modern-day New Orleans, Talon meets Sunshine, who is key to ending his curse once and for all. Not to mention helping him to save New Orleans from an ancient god bent on total destruction....

I can't believe it took me this long to pick up these books. The name Sherrilyn Kenyon is practically synonymous with Paranormal Romance. I saw this two for one bundle, and figured I'd try out the pair to see what all the fuss was about.

The experience left me largely torn. There were some wonderful aspects of these books, and one really bad facet that made me want to throw things.

What I liked:
The characters. I dug them, a lot. In fact, I think if anything keeps me coming back to this series, it will be to figure out what happens to Acheron. I was hugely intrigued by his character, more so than the hero/heroine in each book. Nick was another secondary character I loved. Kenyon can definitely spin a character that makes me interested, which is a big, huge plus.

The idea. I really liked the premise of soulless heroes brought back from death to defend humans from demons. Learning about the heroes' histories was another plus. I enjoyed that historical aspect to each of her books. I also love the nods to various types of mythology.

What I disliked:
Head hopping. These books are the mother of all head hoppers. The constant, abrupt shifts, sometimes several times within a scene made me endlessly annoyed. My real frustration is that if it weren't for this one thing, these would be the best paranormal romance I've read this year. I can only hope that someone eventually told her how aggravating this was to some people and later on down the series it gets better.

Lack of antagonist motivation. It seemed like, in these two books at least, the bad guys were just being bad to create chaos. I guess that's okay, but I like my evil a little more sinister I guess, rather than just bad for the sake of it.

Originally I'd decided on four stars, but writing about the head hopping made me so angry I changed my mind to three. Rest assured, it's somewhere between three and four and the actual number depends on my mood the instant I post this. I will keep reading (at least for a few books) because I like her characters and the world she's building.

This is a must read for paranormal romance fans, and very high on the vampire smut scale, all things considered. If head hopping bothers you, maybe stay away.

Night Pleasures
Estou a adorar o Kyrian. Sabes quem ele me faz lembrar?

A Artemis é má...

Re-read of each book, but the first time I have read this edition...Found the e-version. I have all the books on my "most prized" shelf and I love to see them all there...but now collecting the e-books will be fun!

Dark-Hunters series was quite possibly the best thing that ever happened to my PNR reading...I discovered in 2005 and I have re-read the series in order each time a new book comes out! Talon and Sunshine are sooo sweet, but it is Zarek/Valerius brotherhood that breaks my heart and Amanda/Tabitha sista switches that are my favorites!

Valerius and Tabby came to NOLA with me last year! This series truly made me want to visit NOLA...but after being in the French Quarter for 3 days...and walking every street, every store and talking with everyone that would talk with me...I love this series more and the city! I can't wait to go back to NOLA next year and I believe I will take this e-book on my ipad with me!

Exciting entertainment

I love the characters Keyon creates. Zarek being one of my faves as his and Acheron’s begins to come out. When I’m done with one book..., I can’t wait to read the next in line. I just wish the few, but distracting grammatical errors would go away. Hire me as your proof reader!

This is the fist book in Kenyon's Dark Hunter series.

First, let me say that I am not thrilled with the title. It is one of those generic, could apply to almost any romance novel titles. It is like the title of a Steven Seagal movie. Executive Decision, Out of Reach, Above The LawThey just sound hard and actiony with no real relation to what the action story is.

As far as this story is concerned, it is really a by the numbers romance novel with paranormal elements thrown in. The writing isn't particularly spectacular. It is what Simon Cowell would say "just ok."

What keeps me reading this series is the paranormal element she has introduced. I like the idea of the Greek Gods and goddesses alive and well and involved in human events. And I also like the idea that these Dark Hunters are created from a vow of vengeance at the time of a death by betrayal. And that the Gods are portrayed very much in the way they are portrayed in classical literature as very omnipotent beings who sometimes treat humans as nothing more than chess pieces and are themselves quite selfish.

I do wish that the whole vampire angle hadn't also been included because frankly vampires are very been there and done that with the proliferation of paranormal romances out there. At least the Gods/Goddesses angle and the whole purpose of the Dark Hunters was something different.

One of the local used bookstores had their annual sale last week. Needing some serious retail therapy, I picked up all sorts of stuff I'd never heard about. I picked up this book for $1 and it was a dollar well spent. While it's not as polished as some of the other authors I enjoy reading, there is a guilty pleasure to this book that will have you rolling your eyes even as you continue to be compelled to turn the pages.

Some of the support characters I found more interesting than the constant mental descriptions of all the "yummy" Adonis-described warriors. I'm actually going to do some searches to see if I can look them up in other books in her series. Then, I may search that used bookstore again. Who knows what I'll find? Either way, I think I've found my next summer read author.

3.5 stars for this book!! I was slightly disappointed with this installment in the series, only bc I loved the first one so much.
Although I loved Talon's character and his back-story (past)), I wasnt crazy about the plot in this book. Talon's past is riddled with heartache and loss. That much was undeniable. And I truly enjoyed his personality and strength.

Please, don't misunderstand me. I flew thru the pages, wanting to know what was going to happen next.
But, what I enjoyed most from this book was the fact that it gave me more of an insight on the other Dark-Hunters. It teased me with bits and pieces about their past and their personalities. Thus, making me even more excited about the other books in this series, which I can't wait to read.

I'm glad I am starting the entire series. I really liked Night Pleasures, it was interesting to read about Amanda and Kyrian and their first encounter and how things ended. I was aghast at Desiderius and his trickery to get to Kyrian and his vast knowledge of Kyrian's weaknesses.
However, much to my chagrin, Amanda delightfully stepped up to help him overcome his main weakness and be able to triumph over Desiderius. The ending was good, typical ending I've come to expect.

I'm still in early stages of Night Embrace, but I'm still trying to get into Talon's head and figure him out. We'll see what happens.

I'm restarting the series!! I absolutely love this series and I miss it so I decided I am going re-read the whole series. I love Sherrilyn Kenyon and I honestly hope she never runs out of material for this series - I would feel as if I lost part of my family if she were to ever end it!

Does anyone know if and/or when this series is going to become a TV/Movie series? I've been wishing and hoping and praying for the rumors to be true but it's been years since the rumors first started that they were going to turn it into a series.

I love you Sherrilyn!! Never stop writing!! ❤️

This book is one of the better dark Hunter series, it told a lot about other dark hunters pasts and futures, I truly loved reading how Vane and Bride first met! Loved reading about Zarek and I was even surprised to read about Styxx! I loved the two main characters Talon and Sunshine! As usual with reading Sherrilyn Kennon books there was a lot of humor in it so I often laughed out loud! Must read!!

Night Pleasures is my formal introduction into the world of Dark Hunters. This family of females and their friends have me wanting much more of this series just to see what will result. Not to mention the very hot men gracing the pages.

Night Embrace has me begging for more Dark Hunter and Acheron. Sunshine Runningwolf makes one of the baddest Dark hunters in the land come to heel.

No...

Night Pleasures is the story of Kyrian a Dark Hunter who is "mad, bad, and immortal." He meets Amanda who not only helps him find his soul but becomes a power sorceror in her own right.
Now on to read the other one in the book...
