I serve at the pleasure of the President…and at his complete annoyance.
When the secret service identifies a credible threat against the life of President Spencer Thomas, they have to call in outside help for protection, because they believe the threat is coming from inside the West Wing.
Neither President Thomas nor I are thrilled with the situation, but I joined my black ops squad to protect and serve my country, and my president, against all threats, foreign and domestic. So I’ll be right here, as close to him as possible, until that threat is neutralized.
But the more time we spend together, the more I start to wonder…how close is too close?
I believe that love is love and it happens in a flash.
Whether it starts with action and adventure and adrenaline...or with just a glance across a crowded room. Happily ever after is never far away.

Before I get into the story I have say that the cover on its Goodreads listing is a kind of poor choice, that bloke looks like he'd have a hard time punching himself out of a wet paper bag let alone be a kind of mercenary. Now, the newer cover that's on the kindle version is freaking hot!! That's more like it. On to the story. Ever since I read her gay vampire trilogy I've been grabbing this authors works and loving them all. This is kinda what I like, as in bodyguards stories, but a bit different when it comes to the political bits, but I still enjoyed it immensely. The assassination plots, the bodyguarding (soooo sexy) and the many White House employees made for a great, suspenseful read. Plus there's more in another book.
Political thrillers and action-adventure are my favorite subgenres of romance, and I enjoyed this quick read featuring a relationship that formed between POTUS and his super secret security guy. It's a little rough around the edges editing-wise, but not enough to take away from the fun. I will definitely read the next one!
When the Secret Service identifies a credible threat against the life of President Spencer Thomas, they have to call in outside help for protection, because they believe the threat is coming from inside the West Wing. Neither President Thomas nor Zane are thrilled with the situation, but I joined my black ops squad to protect and serve my country, and my president, against all threats, foreign and domestic. So I’ll be right here, as close to him as possible, until that threat is neutralised. But the more time they spend together, the more Zane starts to wonder - how close is too close?
I enjoyed this story with the threat which links to staff with access to the President and the many threads and layers which suggest this is much larger than one country and the death of one man. I enjoyed the tension between Zane and Spencer which culminated in some quick passion and love (very much along the instalove track). Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
This is new to me author and the romantic suspense is what had me reading the book. I really enjoyed the easy read and the development of the relationship between the President and his bodyman. Some good action, suspense and steamy times The underlining story is clearly going to be carried through the season and I am looking forward to the rest of the series. I know the author writes MF and MM but I'm hoping the series is MM. I will definitely be looking at other MM stories by this author.
This book was quite enjoyable, their romance was quick but it lacked details. Spencer was 36 yo but what about Zane? And I needed more details about their physical descriptions. The threat to Spencer was handled but not finished and the story just end there without further details about Spencer's life as a President who had a male lover by his side.
The things I liked was even though Spencer had an ex wife and married for 10 years but their relationship was purely platonic and Spencer was a virgin!

Probably giving this too many stars, but I have never been as taken in by a blurb as I have by “I serve at the pleasure of the president….and to his complete annoyance” I don’t know why but when I read that I knew I had to read. And it turns out that the book actually had a different vibe than I was expecting from that, I was thinking (almost worried?) that it would be jokey and immature but it wasn’t. I would have liked it to be more fleshed out, more background on both MCs, more fleshed out in the middle as they solve this issue and get to know each other. But it was good.
Great start to a series. I’m excited to see where this goes, though I wish we had more with this couple, good writing, hawt smexy times, and I’m exited to meet the squad. This does end on an iffy HFN, with this couple.
Not bad. A fast, fun read. Some things in this story needed a massive suspension of disbelief, but if I can accept that, the rest of the series could be an entertaining way to spend my time.
I would’ve DNF’d this but I needed it for the alphabet challenge 💀
Firstly, the writing style is odd - almost every other sentence is a new paragraph. Unless ofcourse this is just an issue with the KU version.
The blurb is quite elusive and therefore is left to the individuals interruption. Nowhere in the description does it state it is a MM theme, which is both a missed opportunity and very frustrating to say the least.
The language utilised by most characters is very immature and takes away from the professional setting and mature roles.
The first 30% of the book had potential but overall it was severely lacking and almost felt as though I was reading a movie script rather than a novel.
