Inner Journeys: Meditations and Visualizations

Rate this book
Winding down after a long day often means turning on the television, opening a beer, or tearing into a pint of Chunky Monkey. A more productive, calorie-free way to chase away tension, anxiety and the daily blahs is through meditation. In "Inner Journeys", Gloria Chadwick introduces the art of meditation and its rejuvenating effect on the mind, body and spirit. This book features three kinds of meditations - unguided, self-guided and guided visualisation - and discusses how to practice each. These meditations and visualisations are designed to help quieten distracting mind chatter, focus inward and explore the limitless realm of the heart and soul. Learn firsthand how this increasingly popular practice can help reduce stress, uplift moods, rediscover the magic of childhood, boost intuition and creativity, uncover insights and hidden feelings, achieve spiritual awareness and illuminate one's true self.

A book on meditation that focuses on creating visual scenes that you can explore symbolically and emotionally. This book is presented as an introduction to meditation but it can be appreciated from all levels. The style of meditation is interesting--it is dreamlike and with no religious references. Especially interesting is the amount of scenes that the author creates. There must be 50+ scenes which offer great visual and emotional descriptions to serve as a scaffolding for meditation. The writing is clear and emotive. Mediations like these can incite creativity or be used before bed for meaningful dreams.

Gives like 10 ways we meditate and visualize from taking a nature walk to chanting to guided meditation, etc. Need a mini-cassette recorder and tapes to tape them. But many I read are very useful, or rather I believe they will be as I haven't actually did them. I suppose I've done a couple of the very simple ones, which have worked great.
