4 stars for the Love Bytes story by Sherrilyn Kenyon.
A love story between Adrian (his mother wanted a girl), a colour-blind computer geek and
Sam (her mother wanted a boy, his best friend and co-worker.

The story is irrelevant to Dark Hunters. I didn't realize it before I started. To be honest I was keep hoping that Adrian is an Apolite who will bite Sam when he becomes 27 (He is 26 now).
Hahaha.
Anyway, it was a nice christmas love story with a bit of smut.

The good and/or bad thing, or maybe just the thing, depending on the story in question, about these collections of long short stories/short novellas is that, with limited pages, the author either has to get to that secure happy ending in fewer pages, or employ the X Months Later tool. (The other option being to forego the secure happy ending by leaving things at a satisfying one-nighter, or a promising beginning to something the reader won't ever see, but that seems pretty rare.)

In this collection, we find some instalove, a long-time megacrush fulfilled, and one instalove followed by X Months Later. It may have been my mood, but I let myself enjoy the instalove, for the most part, though I admit there were aspects of the first story I found off-putting. (Frankly, I would almost advocate skipping the first, unless you're a completionist.) I enjoyed the second and third stories quite a bit. The Regency, being the fourth and final was...fine. The characters were pretty good, and the connection between them believable. I felt the anachronisms less than I might have because the story was short. I'm not a total control freak about historical accuracy (If I were, I think I couldn't bear more than 2% of historical romances and mysteries!), but had this been a full-length piece, I suspect I'd have stronger Views on that front.

Heather's Notes
Santa Baby - this story was not my favorite, in fact I almost stopped reading the anthology because of it. I didn't really care for either of the characters, and the plot was a little out there.
"Naughty Under the Mistletoe" - this story was cute. I liked it. The romance went a little fast, but then it was a short story. Both characters were likeable and I enjoyed it.
"Love Bytes" - I feel like I read this before. I also felt like it should be a longer story. She left way to much unresolved.
"A Christmas Charade" - I don't remember this story at all. Which I guess says what I thought of it.

This review is just for the Sherrilyn Kenyon novella,Love Bytes.

Once again she completely knocked it out of the park! I just loved this short original! Kenyon is now one of my favourite authors, it's official!

I was a little worried for a start as this is an office romance not a paranormal and there was quite a bit of technical computer talk and office drudgery at first,it felt a bit like a Hallmark movie. But once the characters acknowledged their feelings and pursued each other,it was Fantastic!

Very very cute, romantic and steamy,I loved every page so much that I reread some paragraphs before turning the pages. I felt that it was quite original and refreshing too. The ending made me cry. It was just wonderful,I'm sad it's over!

Not uber Christmassy, but it was there in the background.

Anthologies are a wonderful way to be introduced to authors. While NAUGHTY UNDER THE MISTLETOE by Carly Phillips was my favourite of the four stories, it is LOVE BYTES author Sherrilyn Kenyon whose other novels interest me the most.

Cheers

I only read the Ryan and Smith stories this time around, but both were very good. I *adored* Kathryn Smith's "A Christmas Charade"!

It was sadly disappointing. I mean I expected more from Sherrilyn Kenyon first off and while it was a cute story with the soul purpose of smut it wasn't that good.

So the point of this book is a little Christmas smut but come on... I think all the authors could have done better. Let's start with Santa Baby. A PI is hired to steal a husbands mistress by the wife. Right off the bat... groan. And of course, said PI falls for mistress who just happens to be in the dark about the wife. Figures. So PI and "mistress" fall for each other. Like I said... could have been better.

Kenyon's Love Bytes, started out pretty cute with a computer "geek" and a secretary (I think) liking each other. The geek wasn't really geek material as he was a major hottie in need of a makeover with said secretary helps him with... at his request because he is color blind as his evil little sister picks his outfits for him and like I said she is evil. lol Okay that was funny. See it is mostly a ruse as he wants to take her out. Things pretty much heat up from there and I liked this story but it seems to lacking in the standards of Kenyon. Hmmmm

Okay Phillips' Naughty Under the Mistletoe was actually pretty good. Toni (the woman) goes after her soon to be ex-boss because frankly she is lonely and she is only looking for a one night stand. She is also trying out some helpful... be sexy tips. Her mistake... kissing the wrong twin... the result... a hot man following her around very interested in more. This story wasn't all that bad. It could have been so much better but each story has the woman being so emotionally fragile that it bothered me.

Smith's A Christmas Charade was probably my favorite because the spy Mrs. Vail (a widow) helps rescue Mr. Maxwell (a viscount, though she doesn't know it) who is also a spy which was captured. The man has been in prison and she's been a widow for 2 years. Naturally you would get down and dirty right? Whatever, they did. They truly did. He was all about seeing her again but once she realized how their stations in society differed she didn't meet him later.... much to his torture. After going to another war, hoping to find her he comes home and is talked into proposing to a long time acquaintance. Then he goes to Christmas at his sister's home... only to find his sisters new friend turn out to be Mrs. Vail. I really preferred the beginning of this story to the end but it was still good. A little less whiny.

Take it or leave it. I don't think it is a must read or have.

In this 4 novella holiday themed anthology I found a variety of writing styles and heroes.

Santa, Baby by Patricia Ryan features P I Jack O' Leary and high society femme fatal Kathleen Peale. His job is to seduce her and his reward will be $50,000. The writing was good. I liked reading Ryan's story. At times I wished there was more character interaction and less background, but even in short stories there needs to be a little background.

Love Bytes by Sherrilyn Kenyon was a complete departure from what I am used to. I like her writing about sexy, dangerous Dark Hunters. Still. I did enjoy her story involving Adrian the 6 foot 5 computer geek and Sam the chubby but cute employee. Sherrilyn makes me enjoy the characters first then tells the story. She's good with novellas, even if they aren't paranormal.

I skipped Carly Phillips novella b/c I had read it before. Naughty under the mistletoe is featured in another anthology I just can't remember which one.

The final story by Kathryn Smith titled The Christmas Charade was set in 1815 England. The whole historical theme is almost always lost on me. I toughed it out and found an author I'd want to look up for a full length novel. Or at least a theme with which I would be entertained by. Viscounts and the ladies they love.

Usually, I love anthologies but this one wasn't that great. Although I loved Sherrilyn Kenyon's story, (I've awarded this two stars purely for her story) I was expecting a little more.

'Santa, baby' by Patricia Ryan: 1 star. Way too much drama for my taste. I didn't like Kat, even when it was revealed she didn't know she was having a relationship with a married man.

'Love Bytes' by Sherrilyn Kenyon. 4 stars. It was funny, sweet, charming and steamy. The characters were great and so was the story. The hero was endearing and the heroine was lovely.

'Naughty Under the Mistletoe' by Carly Philips. 1.5 stars. It started off well but then it was becoming bogged down by pointless drama. The characters didn't click with me.

'A Christmas Charade' by Kathryn Smith. 1 star. I do like certain types of historical romance but I have to be in the mood for it. Although this one was (again) filled with drama, I least I understood why the heroine was making such a hullabaloo as it was about the hero's title.

Of course, the only one that stood out was SK's story and I would have given it 4 stars. It's just unfortunate that the other stories pulled the score down.

Read for the BookObsessed Christmas in July Readathon.

I always forget how much I love romances as I don't read pure romance very often. I enjoy all 4 stories in this anthology.

My favorite was Love Bytes by Sherrilyn Kenyon --- It was a really cute romance about two people who work together and have a crush on each other without the other knowing it.

My last favorite was Santa, Baby by Patricia Ryan simply because it was unlikely. The author does a good job describing Kat's past and personality both of which would make it very improbable that she would declare her love for Jack the day after meeting him. Other than that it was a fun romance.

Overall a fun day of Christmas romance in July!!

Multi-author anthology with a [very loose:] Christmas theme. Stories are set AT Christmas but have very little to actually do with Christmas.

SANTA, BABY by Patricia Ryan. Rating 3

LOVE BYTES by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Rating 4 Good story. I liked the humor - especially having spent some time in IT work.

NAUGHTY UNDER THE MISTLETOE by Carly Phillips. Rating 3 - I'd read this one somewhere before.

A CHRISTMAS CHARADE by Kathryn Smith. Rating 4 It's a Regency with a little more grit than most - I'll be keeping an eye out for the author.

Sherrilyn Kenyon's Love Bytes story...? AMAZING! This was such a cute, heartwarming love tale that had me smiling from Chapter One to epilogue. I adored it, truly, and really liked both Adrian (the hero) and Sam (the heroine.) It's a surprisingly neat story that gives you a dose of a true heroic man and is enjoyable to read whether it's Christmas eve or the dog days of summer.

At this time, I have no immediate plans to read the remainder of the stories enclosed in this anthology, and base my rating solely off of Kenyon's story alone.

Each time I read this it's almost like the first time.
This is a great Christmas-season-y anthology with two awesome stories by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Kathryn Smith (love the poem-riddle) and two great stories by Carly Phillips and Patricia Ryan.

Usually there's always one or two blah items in such anthologies. Well, this one is a welcome exception that never fails to deliver its message.

Love it.

I don't normally read much for sexual romances so at first, I was surprised when I pulled this off my book shelf. I LOVE Christmas so I'm guessing that's how it ended up on my shelves. I obviously should have known it was a sexy book from the cover photo!

I liked the stories. I liked each one being short enough to read in a sitting. I also loved the Christmas theme in all of it.

I blushed a few times but that's expected I think!

Sherrilyn Kenyon's Where Angels Fear to Tread, Love Bytes,
Carly Phillips' Naughty Under the Mistletoe was cute and homey.
Patricia Ryan's Santa Baby was good...a complete story well-executed.
Kathryn Smith's A Christmas Charade was another rush job without continuity...no, no, no.

As with most anthologies, I have trouble giving them more than 3 stars.

Sherrilyn Kenyon is the reason I checked out this book . . . and as always, I loved her story.

I enjoyed the other three authors, in fact I'll probably check out Kathryn Smith in the future. I enjoy Regency stories.

Four short stories of naughty or Nice for the holidays.

Overall, they were OK. Nothing really outstanding. Three were from modern times, with one from 1815 (just didn't seem to quite fit with the others.)
