Though successful in all these fields, he is best remembered for his science fiction, including The Demolished Man, winner of the inaugural Hugo Award in 1953, a story about murder in a future society where the police are telepathic, and The Stars My Destination, a 1956 SF classic about a man bent on revenge in a world where people can teleport, that inspired numerous authors in the genre and is considered an early precursor to the cyberpunk movement in the 1980s.

Это два лучших романа Альфреда Бестера, и, несомненно, оба входят в Топ-100 научно-фантастических романов вообще, и заведомо не во второй половине этого рейтинга. Попытаться пересказать их - и бессмысленно, вследствие головоломных поворотов сюжета и многоплановости повествования, да и беспощадно - ибо это лишит читателя удовольствия окунуться в сюжет самому. Несомненно, что Филипп Дик испытал сильное воздействие Бестера, в том числе.

Brilliant! Nothing in this book made me aware of the fact that it was written around 60 years ago. I utterly enjoyed the world Bester created and how he displayed the development of the main character. A wonderful example of how obsession can become a driving force in human life and bring out his worst... as well as his best. Classic and an easy good read. :D

Tiger Tiger is one of the book I reread a countless number of times. Some books just have that pull on you.
