I was not seduced by this book or the author.

The older I get, the kinder I'm becoming and I do my best to see the positive, especially in things that used to grate me.

Anyway, I started the audiobook version of this book as I began my commute. My journey is almost entirely on the motorway and therefore offers no opportunity to change books. I found myself letting out a near-primal scream as one empty sentence after another came blabbering out of the speakers.

The entire introduction and most of the first is (I think) attempting to convince and sell us on the idea of his 30-day plan. I have the book so presumably I was already sold on the idea or at least I'm not sure most people wouldn't need that much convincing once they have the book (it felt like a sales pitch that had been stitched on to bulk out the book). To be fair if I had the written copy I would have been able to simply skip past it. (Or even fast forwarded if I weren't driving).

But even when it got to the actual content, it felt back-of-a-cereal-box shallow in its examples, research and techniques.

All this to say that if you haven't been living under a rock and want some substantive advice from someone with deep experience, then this isn't the book for you.

However, given the positive reviews that I've come across, I'm guessing the author's style appeals to others more than to me. Ah well.

Additional note on 30 November 2016

Upon seeing my one-star, heart-stabbing review, the author got in touch with me, and he seems a rather nice chap. He even watched some of my videos & took the time to give me some helpful feedback.

My opinion of the book still stands (he didn't try to get me to change my review) but I'm open to taking a look at new stuff by him. I was warmed (seduced?!) that someone who has written a book with this title at least lives by the principle of reaching out very pleasantly to people (even a person who has panned his book).

This book is filled with tips and ideas on how to increase your sales, or get that promotion you deserve through networking and interaction. Alot of ideas on how to use body language and mirroring to build rapport with potential clients. I wish the writer could've expanded more on these techniques

Business common sense. Good refresher if you let things likes soft skills and appearance slip, over lockdown.

L-WAR and soft skills is certainly worth sharing but the dress code and personal presentation......there is something in that for all of us. I really enjoyed this journey of self learning. The concept is basic consideration of self and others. Shame it is not a must read for all 'Managers'.
